Many reviews speak of the director as being mean and dishonest! I definitely agree!! She has no business working with children. There is a high turnover with employees, they are always closing due to staff issues or changing hours. There are a few good staff. One being Tiffany as she was the only reason we stayed. Updating my review due to recent information. As time goes on, it appears that World Of Rainbows is a daycare straight out of 1987. Logs of activity, bathroom breaks and naps are scribbled on paper that has been Xeroxed so many times you can't read it. The sign in sheets look like they were made on the world's first copy machine. Furniture and toys seem archaic. Before we launch into the ugly, here are the good and the bad: GOOD: The employees are very nice. They seem to be patient and good with children. BAD: Without any new technology, it's not only hard to know what's going on at the daycare, but it's light-years behind other centers. There are no video cameras you can view when you're away. You cannot view your child's log online. You can hardly contact the center: when I call, over 50% of the time I get an answering machine. I have emailed them and never received replies. I feel like the center is allergic to technology. Monthly calendars are hand-written and Xeroxed. So are notifications and postings. UGLY: The owner seems to be completely out of touch with how to run a daycare. My assumption is she is running things EXACTLY the same as she did 30 years ago and turns a blind eye to any new technology, processes and regulations. I'm kind of surprised they're still open. The state regulations by the State of Indiana are clearly posted online. Meal schedules have to be posted. I've come in on Tuesdays or Wednesdays and no schedule exists for the current week. The state of Indiana regulates that if any child exhibits signs of sleepiness (laying down, putting their heads down, rubbing their eyes), that they should be offered the option to lay down even if it's outside of naptime. This daycare WILL NOT ALLOW THIS. If your child is sleepy and wants an extra nap, they are forced to stay awake. On a similar note, during nap time, children are forced to lay on their cots for 45 minutes. The state regulates that if they lay down for 30 minutes and do not show signs of sleepiness, they are to be given an activity of some sort. World of Rainbows takes it upon themselves to force an extra 15 minutes on these children. If you want your child to adhere to a special diet, although they allow you to bring in food for very young and older children, you are not allowed to bring in any food for your toddler. They will be forced to eat what the center provides and the only exceptions include doctors' notes or notarized religious documentation. The center owner claims this is State-regulated but that's completely untrue. If the parents provide a different meal for their child (paid for by the parents), there is no reason why it cannot be served to their child. The center may ban things such as peanut butter due to allergies, but the center can approve specific items that you can bring in for your child. Lastly, even if you're full time, you cannot take your child out of the center and bring them back. Scenario: my child had a doctor's appointment during the day. This was a check-up, not due to illness. I picked him up for his 10am appt and was not allowed to bring him back in after the appointment even though I pay full-time. Every problem with this daycare stems from the owner. She'd rather be dishonest than simply say, "no, this is too much work and we don't feel like being accommodating." Don't hide behind the lie that the state forces you do to things: if anything, you are much stricter and care less about children than the state mandates. I would steer clear of this center. There are plenty of other places in the surrounding areas that will allow your toddler to lie down when they are tired and will allow you to provide the food you'd like your child to eat. Last note: My son fell and hit his head recently. No one documented this and no one told me. I had to ask the NEXT DAY and only when I asked a teacher directly was I told what happened. My daughter attended World of Rainbows from the age of 12 weeks to almost one year old. Last week, we removed her due to a repeated pattern of dishonesty from the director. Before detailing why we left, a few notes: the center seems very old and outdated. They're awful with email. The website it not updated. No apps are used and everything seems written by hand. The director has messed up our bill before and when I brought in evidence, she said she'd look into it... yet never got back to me. I had to approach her. Twice. I also got someone else's late bill. Very disorganized. Director aside, I liked the teachers and they're the ones that work with my daughter. Until now. THE LIES OF THE DIRECTOR My daughter was about to turn one and they wanted to transfer her to the infant room. I emailed the director to see what I could do about my daughter's vegetarian diet: do they provide food or could I bring in it? She emailed back and said to meet with her in person. My husband and I came in after work and I started with, "Hi Ms. Candy! Since we're not feeding my daughter meat I wanted to know..." and she put up her hand, "Let me stop you right there. We do not provide special diets for children unless they have allergies - in which case a doctor's note is required, or for religious reasons. Then you need a notarized letter from the head of a church." After a moment I asked, "I'm happy to bring in food for her. I understand if you don't want to provide a special meal but this is due to personal beliefs" and she literally said, "well that doesn't matter. You need a signed note from your doctor saying she can't eat it." We just stood there looking at each other and she said, "This isn't my rule. These are the State of Indiana's rules." I said "Okay, thank you," and we left. I called my pedi's office and they said a doctor's note is only required if allergies are involved but I should be able to provide a note. Click the first link. Page 67 Rest periods (Side note: WOR claims toddlers are not allowed to take more than one nap. This states they should be offered a cot when they're showing signs of being sleepy.) Page 98 Food program Pg 106 = Special diets It clearly states that a parent can supply a note stating a food restriction due to personal believe. Although the center doesn't have to provide food, the parent can (which the center can approve). It's mentioned a few times. To make sure I understood, I contacted a member of the Advisory board of Indiana who explained these to me and said she doesn't know why the director would say the state of Indiana prevents special diets or bringing in food. A week later I went back in to see Candy and I said I called my doctor about a special diet. My doctor said I can provide a note for a personal belief and like before, she cut me off and said, "I don't have to listen to your doctor. The only rules I have to follow are called 'The Interpretative guide for child care centers'." I told her I had a copy of it and she snickered. Before I brought out the guide, I offered to get my daughter EACH DAY while I looked for a new daycare and bring her home for lunch, feed her, and bring her back. CANDY SAID NO. I brought out the copies of the food guidelines (Pg106) and read, "A child requiring a special diet due to religious or personal beliefs shall have a written statement from the child's parent." (There's more that repeats that.) Ms. Candy looked shocked, then angry and yelled, "I don't have to follow this. I have this book. I know what this is!" and ranted about not wanting to take special classes. When she finished I said, "but you said you DID follow this guide..." and started yelling again. Mind you, this was in front of all of the preschoolers. This went on for a while before she agreed to call some guy to ask if I could bring in food. I said please let me know (knowing full well she wouldn't) and she agreed while glaring at me. Then she made up a story about a woman who only allowed WOR to feed her newborn tofu. This ALL could have been avoided if she said, "I'm sorry, we don't offer special food options for any child but other centers may. You can either feed your daughter what we serve, or if you'd prefer to shop around, we can work out a method to keep her here while you search." Instead, she lied. Again and again. "Indiana doesn't let you submit a special diet.'" "I only follow this book of rules, not your doctor's." "I don't follow this book of rules that I just said I follow." "I don't have to listen to the Lake County Advisory Board!" She never got back me. We left. This is a very angry, stubborn center that hasn't changed their methods in decades. read more

The owner of this Daycare Ms Candy is the meanest person I have ever met and lies to the parents who are on government subsidy. We were receiving a childcare subsidy from the State of Indiana and she was receiving the full amount every week. At the end of November, she told me that the subsidy was cut and now I have to pay $45 dollars out of pocket. I checked the records 2 weeks after from the state and found out that she receiving in fact, the full payment from Indiana $210 dollars. On top of that, she charged me $210 at the end of August telling me that I wasn't approved yet and Indiana didn't reimburse her. Well, records showed that she received $234 from the government and $210 from me on top of that. I contacted the State and informed them, and they launched an investigation on this daycare. On the last day I came to pick up my daughter, I mentioned to her that the State confirmed she was paid the full amount and she owes me refund, she started screaming that she is not going to give me anything and she doesn't care about the State people I talked to and started pushing me right in front of the kids and her employees, when I tried to explain what the State told me. I could tell by the rage in her eyes, she would kill me if she could. She kicked us out, and said to not come back, because I was asking for my valid refund. This person needs some anger management therapy asap. She should not care for children. I am sure she screams and spanks kids thats why there are no cameras. The employees were apalled by what was going on. They couldn't believe the unprofessional and violent behavior they were seeing from the owner herself. She was screaming at me because I asked about the refund and mentioned the State. I immediately went to the Dyer Police to file a report that she was getting physical with me in front of the little kids she is in care of. This place needs to be audited, because she is cooking her books by fraudulently charging the parents who receives a child care assistance and receiving full government subsidy on top of that. Obviously, I am not the only one. Carrie Gray, the representative from the State called her the same day and Ms Candy said that she will in fact send me refund within 2 days, which I seriously doubt. I cannot fathom how this ignorant and dishonest, full of rage and hatred person can be the owner of the daycare. I will post on every agency and social media about how I was treated and lied to. Please, go somewhere else for childcare if you care about your kids' wellbeing. This place is a rut. FYI: At the beginning, I saw a caregiver scream at a little baby "Stop!" and told Ms Candy, to which she said, this baby is not that small, he is already 15 months. Obviously, it's Ok for her to mistreat and abuse a little toddler, who can't even talk or walk yet and is at the mercy of this disgruntled owner. read more

I had to take my 2 year old out of the school after I was informed that my daughter was screaming and crying for hours at a time. ( she was in this daycare for 6 month and had been have good drop off from about a 2 months) I told her teacher that if this ever happened again I wanted to be notified so that I could come pick her up, I don't want her to be crying for hours. Several days later, the Director Ms. Candy reported to me at pickup that once again my daughter was "crying for 3 hours" she stated that on the very next day my child would be moved to to 3-5 year old class in to morning and placed in the 2 year old room in the afternoon. She appeared and sounded very annoyed and irritated. She didn't talk with me about a plan or what the possible cause was for my child's distress. I left that day with a horrible feeling in my heart and stomach...Who had I left my child with for 9 hours a day. When I walk out the door with my daughter she started sobbing ( this has never happened..ever. I decided that I would never take her back, I had a horrible feeling. I notified the school via email and phone. Ms. Candy never even called to see what happen and why I decided to not bring my child back. I paid full price/full time daycare 5 days a week... I think I deserved at least a email. Now I really believe that they didn't want my daughter in their school and I'm so sad to think how they may have treated her while she was in their care. This was unfortunately my first experience with child care, so if some of these complaints seem trite to some, please keep that in mind. This place was nothing but a complete disaster. Dealing with the most unprofessional, unpleasant, owner of a business that I have ever had the misfortune to meet was an absolute nightmare. Every single time I walked into this place I was met with dirty looks and silence from the owner Candy. I had no idea who she was at the time, as I was not present for the tour when we signed our daughter up. So the very first time I walked into the business I was able to walk through the entire facility to find where my daughter was being watched, pick her up out of her high chair, put her coat on, and begin to walk out before anyone employed there said a single word to me. This was a huge safety concern for me because anyone in the world could have come in the place and done the same thing. I voiced my concern to one of the employees who said they knew I was coming that day and assumed I was her father. To be fair a few weeks later her uncle needed to pick her up for us, and he was questioned. Another big issue is the accounting practices that this Candy uses. She constantly claims that accounts are short, refuses to provide proof, and then refuses to give refunds when due. The last straw was when we verified with the State of Indiana that she was overcharging us, provided the proof, and were immediately told that the State was wrong and that she wasn't giving us any kind of refund. In addition she began shouting and swearing (using the F word) loudly in front of the of children, staff, and parents in the room. At this point she began aggressively putting her hands on my fiancé telling her we were not ever welcome back and to get our things. Candy absolutely lost it when provided with proof that she has been cheating clients out of money. I tried to call to speak with her about this incident I was only able to leave a message asking her to call me back, but of course this call was never returned. I tried the next day to call as well, and again was met with the voicemail system. The only good thing I can say about this place was how well Ms. Kelly did with my daughter. This place is nothing fancy but I absolutely love this place! It is a small childcare facility that I almost passed up, I'm glad I gave it a try. The staff is so friendly, pleasant, and perky which is great for the children. We right away felt welcome and were induced to all the staff the first day. I felt like we were on an episode of Barney; kids like the excitement in the care takers voices and the smiles on their faces. The first day I picked up my child I was had not met one of the caretakers and she picked up my my daughter and requested my I.D before giving my daughter to me, I absolutely was impressed that even though I am her mother she verified this since she had not met me. I stayed and watched as I observed the caretakers interact with my daughter not just ignore her like other facilities may do. I go to work everyday with a secure feeling my daughter is in good hands. Thank you World of Rainbows, perfect name for this place! My child was previously at WYLC which was not a good environment it was always so chaotic and all the care takers always looked miserable which is not welcoming for the children. read more
