My family of 22 booked almost $1000 at the Bethel outdoor adventures in campground for a day of tubing down the river. We were greeted with a long snarl of a face in the main office and while still on the river with multiple family, waiting for us to get off the river, they were yelled at and mistreated by Erin. And when I got off, I went to retrieve my keys to leave, and I was treated as if I was a moron when I tried to explain that I just had given her a fob, not a full set of keys. She treated me like I was a two year-old idiot and was very sassy with me and again with her long snarl of a face. This is not how Customers should ever be treated and you should not be the face of this company. I highly recommend another tubing company if you visit Bethel Maine

The staff and service I encountered at Northern Waters Outfitters in Errol, NH was the most…read moreunprofessional that I have ever experienced in my 30 years of wilderness travel. After a 2 hour paddle to my campsite on Lake Umbagog, I unloaded my kayak and discovered that the kayak had taken on significant water due to a leak in the rear bulkhead. There was a gallon or two in the compartment, along with my belongings. It was a mess. And the added water weight explained why the boat was dragging. I left numerous polite voicemails and wrote several emails over the next 24 hours, describing the problem and requesting a replacement boat. No one returned my calls, and the one email I received indicated I'd get a replacement kayak brought to me that day. But it never arrived. With an impending storm, we thought it was risky to attempt to paddle back in a boat that was already leaking, and with no replacement boat, we decided to be safe and cut our trip short to avoid paddling in the rain. So, our trip was cut short due to the leaking boat provided by Northern Water Outfitters. More so, it was cut short due to the complete lack of response to the problem. When I arrived back at Northern Waters Outfitters, I had to hunt down someone to assist me (as it had been when I'd initially rented the kayak). When I explained what I had been through to the staff member, he belittled me and insinuated that I was not "patient enough" when waiting for the replacement boat. Note: We had been waiting all day the previous day, at the campsite. We had not been able to kayak around and enjoy the lake on our trip, because we were waiting for the boat, and because it didn't feel safe. I was forced to cut my trip short as I did not feel safe returning with a leaky boat, along with taking in rain (no spray skirt was issued). This staff member was rude and condescending. He again stated, with an attitude, "I was bringing you the boat". When I explained that my concern was based on my extensive experience and knowledge as a wilderness guide in the past, he reacted by mocking me for being a "world renowned expert" (which I never claimed to be) and continued to belittle me. At that point, I told him I expected a refund for the full rental period. He responded with statements such as "you'll get your refund" "whatever you want, expert". His attitude was perplexing, as I'd been extremely patient and polite for the duration, despite the circumstances. While I was issued a refund for the rental, no one from Northern Waters Outfitters had contacted me with an apology or to learn more about how they could have prevented this situation in the first place. Based on the condition of their boats, their customer service, and disregard for my safety, I cannot recommend this outfitter to anyone who is seeking to rent kayaks in Errol, NH. I see that this business has good reviews in the past. Perhaps the owner needs to take note of who he's leaving in charge.

Overall a great place to rent gear while at Lake Umbagog!…read more I'll be honest there was a staff misunderstanding/snafu that could have ended up being a really sour spot in our weekend, but the owner Thomas was amazing about going out of his way to fix things. The boat was in great condition, lifejackets were new, and the location of the shop was great for exploring and putting in. One thing to note, they apparently have spots on the lake that you can rent to camp at? Also their boats are cheaper than those at the state park, so maybe next year we'll go directly with NW for everything. Thanks again Thomas :) Jen

We book a lane and are told it could be 30-45 minutes. Ok cool. I take my son into the arcade, my wife and our friends play some pool. My wife was intending to order food for my son because im sure the owner of this place understands, when you bring a 3 year old you only have a matter of time before they melt down. My wife tried to order a kids chicken finger meal. She was told "Childrens food can only be ordered at a table or at a bowling lane" WUT? Anyways my son wanted to see his mom after a while in the kid casino. We went out to the main area and an employee snapped her fingers at me and said "NO KIDS BY THE POOL TABLES" Uhhh wut? Every other pool table was occupied by very young teenagers. If you have "no minors" signs around the pool tables why do you allow young teenagers with no adult supervision to play? Bizarre that a bunch of people 35-40 with a 3 year old can't have a kid with them, but there can be 3-4 pool tables of minors. Anyways back to the kid casino until the lane was ready. The kid casino is pretty good and well priced. No complaints there. Lots of passive aggressive signs though. The lane was finally ready and we were permitted by the staff to order kids food. 20 minutes into bowling our lane died (and 3 other lanes adjacent). I went to tell the girl at the bowling counter. She told me "I don't know ask for help on the screen" so I did 15 minutes later they fixed our lane. The timer never stopped though. So over 1/4 of the time we paid for was wiped out. I again went back up to the counter. Asked for a 20 minute credit since the lane shut off. She told me "uhhh we don't do that I think" I asked another employee and she said she would ask someone. She didn't. It took almost a full hour for my 3 year Olds chicken tenders to come out and by the time they did it was almost time to go. Drink service was horrible. Service was pretty bad. Considering there was 6 adults. Food was good though. Crazy that you are not allowed to order a kids meal to be brought to your lane but you can order adult meals prior to be brought to your lane.. You physically have to be there at theblane with your kid to order a kids meal. There is no excuse for that type of business incompetence and out of touch behavior.

His reasoning was because I had walked in with a Poland Spring water bottle. My wife and I both explained that the water bottle was for my son and to feed him formula. His response was coarse, ending with "I will speak to the owner and see if this is allowed", he did not get back to me following this. As someone who has visited the Sunday River/Bethel area for the past 20 years it was extremely upsetting to see how we were treated as patrons of this establishment. In total we had about 20 or so people there, more than willing to support this business via food, drink, and entertainment for the children. However the utter rudeness that this particular employee showed forced us to leave. This is upsetting to me because it is a great place for families to bring their kids regardless of the time of year. I suggest if they would like to keep their business operating I would fire that employee immediately. He is rude, disrespectful, and an embarrassment to the business.
