WORSBOROUGH MILL AND COUNTRYSIDE PARK is located roughly four miles to the South of Barnsley town centre.
The mill is a restored working water-powered mill that grounds corn to make flour and is situated beside the very well known Worsborough Dam, from which water is extracted to feed the mill-race that powers the waterwheel of the mill.
Worsborough Dam is by no doubt the star attraction of the entire Countryside Park. Although the water in the dam does not cover the area of land that it did many years ago it still covers quite a large area even today. The dam is fed by water from Rockley Dike and Brough Green Brook - better known by local children as The Yellow Waters, due to the water being discoloured by iron ore. Water flowing out of the dam forms the starting point of the River Dove.
On a sunny day it's very nice to sit beside the dam on the grassy banks and have a picnic and watch Grey Herons fly across the dam, there's also ducks and sometimes swans. Fishing is allowed at the dam so long as you have a permit. Camping and campfires are not allowed for safety reasons. read more
