Worthing has plenty of bars, mostly chain type ones or of similar vibe, but this fairly new micropub truly is amazing. Opened and run by a true gent named Nigel, what is delivered when you visit is a warm welcome accompanied by a perfectly poured pint. A complete free house, Anchored supports the local breweries mainly around Sussex to bring you the freshest real ales and ciders. They have a nice selection of world beers - Anchor Steam Beer is one of my favourites so it's a great addition to their fridge! The wine seems very overpriced - we're talking London prices but I'm not convinced the quality justifies the price. The food is basic but fairly good - they only have a tiny kitchen and the burger flipper lad I have seen in there must just be working here as a stop gap but I really feel some really decent food could come out of the kitchen with the right person cooking! There was a chap there for a little while who was serving up some fantastic specials but he has moved on and therefore the menu has suffered. The decked terrace out the front is the show stopper, however there is a bus stop more or less in front of it and therefore the view is compromised fairly regularly by gawping bus passengers staring at you. As I mentioned earlier, this is a place for summer and therefore their trade may die along with the warm vibes so they need to step up with something else to attract their trade in the colder months especially as each time I have popped in the WIFI does not work.

Traditional pub serving food and real ale, close to Worthing town centre…read more The pub dates back to 1814 and has a fittingly traditional interior, with brick and dark wood panelled walls, and pictures featuring fox and stag hunting. There's one main room wrapped around three sides of a central bar, and a small outdoor area at the rear. They serve a range of traditional real ales, and a fairly standard pub grub menu (sandwiches, chips, baked potatoes, burgers, cottage pie, lasagne, chicken, omelettes etc) are served daily at lunchtimes, and Tuesday to Thursday evenings. Prices are pretty good - most mains are £7-£9 - and there is a 2 for £10 evening offer on selected items. On Sunday there is a traditional roast for £9 but there are lighter options including vegetarian and fish dishes. The pub has both regular quiz nights and live jazz evenings. Worth a visit.

As I was trying to get her name, she said she will not give it to me and called the bouncer to kick me out as well. I've mentioned before that this bar's bartenders are nothing but miserable with their jobs because not one of them seemed happy one bit. Sadly there are no other bars in the Worthing area worth going to. Its an ideal place to head to for lunch or with a large group but I prefer to sit on my own, in the corner reading my newspaper and enjoying my pint of Harveys.

This place deserves it's spot in The good Beer guide with four well kept ales spanning the colour spectrum from golden to mild, and the inclusion of everything that is traditional about the British pub. The bar staff were efficient and friendly, it was quite busy mid afternoon but I was still served quickly. This is a small place with no food and no frills but with loyal punters, many of whome spoke to us and said how much they loved the place! I wish I lived nearby as there is an exciting callender of events including choirs and morris dancing. And it's well within walking distance of the station and dogs are allowed.
