Flying E Ranch - All ready to go on a trail ride

    Flying E Ranch

From the moment we arrived, the…read morestaff welcomed us with genuine kindness and treated us as if we'd been part of the ranch for years. The ranch itself is a treasure--old and full of character, with history dating back to the 1940s. I loved wandering through the original buildings, admiring the authentic architecture and décor, and flipping through the photo albums filled with memories from decades past. The team here is absolutely outstanding. The cooks, Jesse and her husband Jeff, made every meal feel like it came straight from a family kitchen--comforting, delicious, and made with care. In the front office, Lisa was friendly, organized, and always ready with a smile or helpful suggestion. And the wranglers, Wendall and Ritch, were simply the best I've ever had the pleasure of riding with. Their knowledge, patience, and humor made every ride unforgettable, and Wendall's personality in particular was a highlight of the entire stay. Being tucked away in Wickenburg--the roping capital--meant that daily roping competitions were part of the experience, adding excitement and authentic cowboy culture to each day. The trail rides were scenic and peaceful, offering a perfect way to soak in the Southwest landscape. On top of everything else, the ranch doubles as a stunning venue for weddings and corporate events. With its history, charm, and warm-hearted staff, it's hard to imagine a more perfect setting. If you're looking for a genuine dude ranch experience filled with heart, history, and unforgettable people, this is the place.

It was quite a drive up to the ceremony area. 4 wheel drive vehicles only recommended just for that. We had an amazing dinner cooked/catered from the Flying E staff. Everything was so delicious: steak, salad, baked potatoes, corn, rolls, and there were plenty of drink options & hors d'ouvres before the meal. Funfetti & chocolate cupcakes, white cake, & carrot cake were the dessert options. There was dancing, cornhole to play, S'mores to make, and a log coaster branding station. This is a great place for weddings. Once it gets dark, it's hard to see to get out and it gets dusty but if you like a western theme, this is definitely your place!

Both were delicious and prepared to our liking. Service was excellent, Christina was our server, she was friendly, funny, efficient, and attentive. At conclusion of our lunch, we were pleasantly surprised to be served a complimentary cookie! Notes: ambiance is warm and welcoming. The inside dining area was nice and comfortable, spacious and the acoustics are good for conversations. Disabled parking appeared to be ample and access free from obstacles (we observed a number of customers entering with the aid of walkers). Overall, we highly recommend The Grill

OKAY - so it's not a Five Star kind of place, ... for most folks. But for me and mine, this place…read morewas a diamond with some rough edges. It's still a throwback to the old-school hacienda style of how the old west used to look or was imagined to look. Details painted in bold colors, lots of big timber in the decor and windows. Tons of windows. Lunch was a couple of big glasses of iced tea, a thick, juicy Reuben, and house-made chips followed by a peanut butter cookie all of which totally hit the spot. My dining companion had the Filet & Wedge and claimed it to be perfect in every way. The wonderful waitress who served us was cheerful and over-the-top helpful. We were there in the off-season, most of the resort is under some kind of remodel, and I'm pretty sure there were only 3 people running the place - and two of them were being interviewed, which was kind of exciting to watch. She went out of her way to dig up some brochures and explained all the new stuff being built. It wasn't like we were the only people in there either! There was a pretty good crowd of what seemed to be regulars, the way they greeted each other and continued to talk from table to table - and they had a group of 60 finishing up a round of golf headed their way. But really, it's the views. The chairs are comfortable enough to sit for bit and just take it all in with a few slow deep breaths and let the wonder of it all soak in. There might not be much in Wickenburg, but there doesn't have to be. The views are the best attraction there is. It's worth the drive but check for construction detours and if it's the off-season, check to see what's open by calling, don't rely on online info. The other two places I wanted to visit are actually closed for the summer.

The best part about this guest ranch is that it is small, intimate, historic with a rich history where everyone will know your name. Not a mega resort! The rooms are modest but decorated with western art and quite comfortable. The bathrooms have been be recently updated. Ken - ranch manager will greet you with a genuine smile and treat you like famIly. The food served family style is very good and quite filling. I signed up for the American Plan that included 2 rides a day, 3 meals and your room. NOTE-- rides are at 9 am and 2 pm. Plan you arrival and departures to take full advantage of the rides. The horses are in great condition and the wranglers will pair you with a mount that fits your skill level. Special call out to head wrangler - Bart who made sure our rides were all that I expected and more!

Wrangler(Jason?) was interesting, polite and since I was the only one on each of the rides we covered a lot of territory. Room was clean and decor was authentic western. Stables and tack room where neat and lodge, dinning rooms where clean. Good signage when you get off the main road to find the office. Fun activities such as Archery, target and skeet shooting, swimming, games , cattle and cards. No TV which is refreshing. This way you get to really talk to guest and staff or not. Cool town of Wickenburg 10 minutes away. Happy hour everyday at the ranch before dinner with nice cheeses and food. Come here for the riding cuz it's some of the best especially after a good rain.

We were escorted to the driving range where they gave use plenty of plastic golf tees and we have plenty of range balls to hit that were already set up for us. The balls were pretty clean too. I was bummed they did not have any breakfast sandwiches before my round as the restaurant was closed. So I waited to order when I got the the 9th tee. I ordered the club sandwich and it was delicious. I really liked the options you had as a side. I got the Cole slaw which was pretty dog gone good. It was especially nice they gave us some chocolate chip cookies too. Mike the Marshall delivered the sandwiches to us when we were on like the 12th hole. Overall this place is a great place to hit the golf course. People there were super friendly. I cannot wait to go back!!!

Greens were in great shape, bunkers consistent, and overall I would say conditions were great for being the middle of Summer here in Arizona. Green fees were right @ $50/pp which included range balls. Peppy carts, nice center console in the cart, big and deep coolers, four bottles of water, towels, USB port, deep basket, but no course GPS. When we parked they brought a cart out to us so we didn't have to use the bag drop. When we were finished, we were able to bring the carts out to the parking lot. Great staff, friendly and accommodating.
