The piece I got was actually hand made in Colorado and not locally, but there were plenty of local pieces there to choose from. They have jewelry, paintings, pictures, pottery, etc. I wish I had found it sooner before I spent my vacation budget. The lady at the counter who I'm assuming is the owner was really nice as well and wrapped my mug up for me and offered to gift wrap it. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Blairsville.

What I really love about this store is the producers of the items are artists and they are not mass producers of cheaply made goods that you can find almost anywhere in some chain store. I appreciate shopping locally and supporting artists who are creating one-of-a-kind (or thereabouts) goods or are creating things that are beautiful and functional. The shop is very cute. Nicely decorated and not stuffed to the gills so you cannot move around. The store keepers are knowledgeable on the artists and/or their crafts for sale and very pleasant to chat with. The prices are good for the value of the items being sold. That being said there are lots of things I would love to purchase but my personal finances are such that I need to be careful about what I can and cannot afford, but the store does sell items that vary in price. So from moderate to expensive items depending on the material used and the time taken in making the item. I think it is very fair since I live with an artist and can tell how long it takes to design and make certain art pieces. I always visit Sharpiro's when I come to town and really appreciate having them as one of the few places that I enjoy spending my time and money shopping at. Well worth the visit!!!

I bought a cute oil dispenser with a ladybug on it and a bunch of individual stationery cards created by a local artist. Oh, and a rabbit magnet that my toddler just had to have, of course. Very sweet staff that will carefully wrap your purchases. I think they do classes occasionally, but check their website or Facebook page to make sure I didn't make that up. My husband was amused at the huge fish that gather right below the deck. Very close to Helen and the other popular little towns/pockets up there so be sure to stop in next time you're in the area!

Also we don't want to be interrogated about who we are, where we are from, yada yada. Please let your patrons VIEW and ENJOY the pieces! Also we think they should post "NO CELL PHONES!" all over. People who wander in need to RESPECT the artists, their work, and the fact that the rest of us are trying to enjoy our visit. We don't need to hear your loud cell phone conversations! This is a diamond in the rough. Visit it and see. This is…read morelocated just north of the intersection of 17 and 255. It is an old restored school building that has been converted into a museum. There is plenty of parking in front of the school. What a great display and gorgeous building. Much of the entrance has large glass windows allowing a lot of light into the building. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a short 10-minute Smithsonian film with many of the local artisans featured that describes the local methods that were used to make Appalachian pottery. The building houses lots of displays showing pottery workshops, a kiln model, and pottery uses in past areas. There is a large set of displays of pottery from various artists and timeframes. It is my understanding that many of the pieces in the "workshop" displays are real artwork and not re-creations with makes it all the more fascinating to look at. As a bonus, the building is adjacent to (and connected to) another set of gift shops and museums. You can also visit other buildings on the site. The entire visit was wonderful and well worth visiting. You could spend a fair amount of time as there is a lot of information on display here that tells the true story of pottery that was created and grew out of this area.

She gave us a great tour of the museum and the pottery she also makes. The gourd cash register and telephone were great.
