Therefore, imagine my delight at finding a supermarket experience that is actually pleasant. More than pleasant in fact. Give yourselves a round of applause Booths. What a great place to shop. It's a Northern small chain and it's all about tradition and quality products. First up, it's in Ilkley which is always a nice drive to and a lush town to have a gentle stroll around. So the location is a winner even if it's not the most practical place to go on a daily basis for me. The real selling point is the products though. We're talking excellent quality and fresh as the day is young. The vegetables are always tasty and fresh and I'm always excited to see artichokes on sale. I know I need to get out more. The deli counter is simply divine and I'm always partial to some marinated garlic whilst trying to avoid the stand out cakes in the bakery section. They've also got a great mix of bottled lagers and ciders from around the world and the wines are top quality too. It retains that shop local feel tom it without cutting back on the actual quality. If you've got time, stop off at the café too for some beautiful deserts and a good old cuppa. This is how food shopping should be. Now we're talking.

They always have shelves packed full with loads of different foods at good prices. Lots of offers and two for one deals...etc. My friend and I like to pop into the cafe sometimes for a guilty greasy fry up and I often end up trawling through the make-up counter and buying lots of pointless lipglosses that I don't need! It's in a better location than the Horsforth Town Street store and there's plenty of parking in the largue industrial estate.

Sainsbury's is one of the 4 big supermarkets in the country. Originally opened in 1869 the first store in Drury Lane soon paved the way to over 500 supermarkets and convenience stores nationwide. The new store in Selby seems to be doing well at the moment. Tesco prices have got silly; Morrison is good for offers, leaving Aldi the winner but with little choice. By default that leaves Sainsbury's in quite a good position. I like Sainsbury's ethics, their carrier bags are not dished out, and their stand on free-range products leads the way. They have improved their basic range and I like the meal planners and recipes.oh and Jamie Oliver's a bit fit too :)

The supermarket is huge and they offer everything from baby clothes/adult clothes/kids clothes to food and electricals. Their prices are usually below average which is good. They do some really good offers and also if you use the tesco reward card you end up getting some really good rewards the more you spend. They have a brilliant choice of food - be it fresh, ambient or frozen and they are all at reasonable prices and there is loads of offers to be had. The supermarket is always clean and well stocked. The staff are in the main very polite and hard working. There is a large carpark and a small eating area for goods bought instore, there are also some baby changing facilities but unfortunately no toilets.

There is no petrol though - which for those of us collecting points is a must. The staff are efficient, there are always plenty of checkouts open and the queues aren't too long. Always well stocked, cool and clean, this mini-mart is perfect for most of the stuff you need when you can't be bothered nipping to the bigger supermarket. It's basically a scaled down version of daddy Tesco which retains all the best bits and always has something on offer. The staff are all young studenty-types, so they're all fairly friendly and very good in terms of checkout speed. However long the queue here, you'll never be waiting more than a minute or two to get served. As a general rule, I hate Tesco's. But I love this one.

Morrisons 'market place' is a unique set out for a supermarket and you can find fresh fruit and veg along side a fish monger and butchers where just like the advert shows you, the staff will be more than happy to talk you through whatever cut of meat you require or even fillet your fish for you. There is also a bakery and rotisserie offering yummy treats such as pork pies and sausage rolls as well as hot roast chickens. Another good point worth mentioning about Morrisons is that they do from time to time do brilliant offers. It's worth looking out for them on the internet or in your local paper.

It is large enough to have a full range of goods that you would expect of Morrisons and is conveniently located for York city centre. Being brand new it is also clean and specious, There is also a large car park with petrol station and car wash available. Petrol & Diesel is usually the cheapest in York as Morrison's always seem to be the first retailer to announce price changes. This store is also on the same site as a large Homebase store and Frankie & Benny's restaurant!

Having now lived in Headingley for a few years I used to visit Sainsburys for my weekly shop, even…read morebefore it was a Sainsburys - when it was Somerfield. Essentially, there isn't a great deal of difference between the two companies in terms of my weekly shop. There are a few items that were most definitely cheaper when it was a Somerfield - smoked mackerel, some of the fruit and veg items etc - but there are some Sainsburys features that were not there and are quite good. One of those is the 'feed your family for a fiver' leaflets, which are really quite useful! I picked up one for lamb pitas, which is really good. It's cheap, tasty, different and of course I've embellished the recipe in my own way to make it suit me. The staff seem to be the same staff as before, which is great, as they have always been patient and helpful. They have new 'self service' counters, which can be useful if you only have a couple of things and don't wish to queue. They can also give you the rage of Zeus when they accuse you of an "unexpected item in the bagging area!" so use with caution. All in all, I'll always shop here as it is most convenient for me to access. But it's not an unpleasant place to shop for your goods so I'm happy.

I nipped in here for some basics and was really pleased to find that they sell Clover, a small and very specific point I know, but it seems all other places nearby to me have ceased to sell this most coveted butter brand! I was really pleased. They also have a grand fruit and veg section, though not as wide and fresh as Oakwood fruits, a good selection of handy quick meals, cereals and more. There are also feed 4 for £4 deals, which seems to be their answer to Sainsburys feed your family for a fiver deal, which isn't bad! As well as all this the shop assistant was really sweet and friendly, offering up a bit of harmless banter as I purchased my goods. All in all, a pretty fair place to purchase some goods!

The store has managed to cover most of my emergencies, from desperately needing a sewing kit to cough medicine to a birthday card. There seems to be an awful lot hidden away on the shelves. The food selection isn't bad and it's of the same quality as a big supermarket. They always ID me even though I am approaching 30 but I don't mind as it means you don't have the usual drunken kids hanging out side. What is great is the staff, they are always very helpful, keen to chat and makes buying your tea bags a little bit fun.
