Reasons I Will Not Do Business with Write My Wrongs--again 1. REVOLVING STAFF. I paid $4000 to have my book revised and edited, which took from August 2021 until April 2022. During this time, I found out that my editor had quit the company and her supervisor had "walked" as well. To top it off, the owner has recently sold the company. 2. FALSE PRAISE. Editors send weekly updates which parrot lines from earlier updates. At times the comments feel cut and pasted, heaped upon by false praise for the writer's work. The point of a professional revision (or edit) as I understand it is to correct one's draft, not to backslap or congratulate. After my assigned editor disappeared without notice, weeks lapsed without any feedback, only a scant email that I was "still in the queue" waiting for the next ranking editor to take over. 3. PROCESS FLAWS. In my feedback, my initial editor wrote five pages worth of fixes that were easy to challenge and lacked the insights of an expert. She did not seem to understand that my work was non-fiction. She suggested in various passages that I insert fictional elements like thoughts and feelings of characters in places where I had no valid sources. I gathered she was using a scripted formula for character development. In truth, my research required thousands of hours to produce over 600 factual notes and hundreds of documented sources. The research project carried me to over ten states. I questioned the differences with my editor, but she never wrote back. In the end, she sent me a modified form letter, praising my story because the "plot builds up at the perfect pace" and characters "feel like real people." There is no plot in history, my characters felt like real people because they were! 4. UNFINISHED FINAL PRODUCT. In June 2022, I forwarded my finished manuscript from Write My Wrongs to a local publisher for printing. The following day I got a call from my publisher's staff, suggesting I take a second look at the document. At a glance, I noticed my chapter headings of all things were inconsistently formatted. I reread the early pages, picking up troubling bits I did not expect. I spent the following three days proofreading the entire work. In short, I was proofing the proofreaders. This was not what I paid for. By the time I finished, I had caught sentence level errors, rules of capitalization unevenly applied, issues with syntax, and mechanical flaws. In short, careless mistakes dotted the manuscript. 5. TURMOIL. When I phoned this month to speak to an editor, I was speaking to an entirely new CEO. I was told Allen the previous CEO has stepped down. I was curious why so many people were leaving. On GlassDoor's site, posts from past employees praised their co-workers but frequently cited low pay with unreasonable work demands as negatives. One comment I read even revealed that employees jokingly mock the writing of company clients at times. 6. NO REFUNDS, NO PARTIAL REFUNDS, ONLY MORE FREE EDITING. I requested a refund. The manuscript I received on a flash drive did not reflect the cost of the service. I tried to resolve the matter privately without success. WMW does not stand behind their service. I requested a refund of $750 of my $4000 cost. The new CEO Toni told me there are no refunds, only more free editing for the work they had already finished. My book had already been proofed and sent off to the publisher. What value was that? Between the new CEO and the previous CEO, it seems the 'not my problem' card is being played. I see that others have had success with WMW, the most recent July 2021. I genuinely think that's great. In fairness, many changes from my editor were indeed helpful and did improve my manuscript. But, the bottom line is this: What I received from this company was not worth $4,000.00. To be realistic, I would set a max value of $1500 for the work they returned. I suggest any writer looking for editing services to look elsewhere. The previous CEO Allen wrote me with the following: "If you file small claims, it will be a waste of your time.
