I really appreciate the Excellent people who work at the Everett Branch (404- 128th St. SW). I applied for a transferred mortgage last year about this time, and they took about 2 months to get back to me, with a very small reduction in my current rate. I called Whatcom Educators CU, and the manager got back to me in about 10 minutes. Now I have a much better mortgage rate with WECU. I pay my WSECU credit card early and always for over 4 years. They would not increase my limit (from $5000 to $6000) without a hard pull on my credit. This year, I had a fraudulent charge on this WSECU credit card. That in itself is a concern. I did not get any notice about it. I asked them to close my credit account. Apparently, I didn't communicate adequately, as the closed my card, but left the credit account open. I went into a branch to figure out how to get the account closed. They stated that closing a credit account (with zero balance) would be a detriment on my credit report. I closed it any way. Terrible communication and listening skills with minimal verbal contact. We applied for a HELOC loan, online and nobody contacted us to prepare us for what we will need to put our best application forward. They just ran our credit before contacting us and made us a counteroffer based solely on the minimal information in their application which never asked for savings or other assets. No one ever contacted us to ask for income information or assets until after they ran our credit. Our credit is 750+, our payment history is spotless, and our savings are greater than our debt. The agent was very dry and impersonal the few times we spoke with her (twice for less than 5 minutes) and we felt like we were just a number the entire time. She offered less than what we wanted, even though they valued our home at a much higher value than we expected, and never acknowledged anything we would communicate to her about our assets or savings. She would just email us for more information and never ask for our assets or personal savings information that would show our savings are larger than our debt, leading me to believe they do not take your assets or savings into account when calculating loans. Thereby never having a full picture of our net worth. Our entire experience felt impersonal and robotic. It almost felt like they never listened and gave us a "take it or leave it" offer without discussing or reviewing all of our assets. I couldn't help but feel they were being biased. If you want to deal with dry, unfriendly people who will make decisions from little information and not acknowledge anything you bring up, then WSECU is the place for you. read more

The worse walk-in experience ever. I tried to make a car loan payment using my non-WSECU debit card and the cashier keep saying "us bank may charge you a fee for cash advance" what cash advance? I'm paying my bill not cash withdrawal!!! And she asked my debt card signature so I wrote see ID and she gave me a lecture about writing see ID blah blah. I would never open an account with this stupid bank. Can't wait to take my loan to somewhere else. read more

To be honest, I opened this account, randomly, just because I could. I used to bank with Wells Fargo, and I didn't have any complaints about them (other than the fact that they are a 'for profit' institution). I slowly moved all of my accounts to WSECU, I even had my husband close his Chase accounts and move to WSECU. The customer service on the phone and in the branches are consistent and welcoming, everyone I have had interactions with was personable and non judgemental. The branches are clean and they always have coffee and water, I've never had to wait in long lines and even when my husband was nasty to the employees they remained calm and accommodating (he has since learned to be nice). I have overdrawn a couple of times, and like any other financial institution they charged me (as they should, because it isn't THEIR fault I was irresponsible) and I called and simply asked if they could help me out and they did. I have since learned to be more responsible regarding my accounts. I don't have issues with the fees that are charged, not that I get charged a lot of fees, but let's face it.. Fees are generally assigned when you aren't paying attention to your finances. Right?! And I have to say this after reading some of the reviews here... HOODS AND HATS AND SUNGLASSES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN ANY FINANCIAL INSTITUTION... HELLO?! It's a safety thing.. DUH!! anyway... The employees always find ways for me to utilize my money and their services so that it benefits ME. I am so happy I opened my accounts here. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BEING A MEMBER HERE!! read more

I have been a member since oh....1983 I think.... Service has always been top notch. WSECU had rock-bottom lowest rates when I bought my first house, and they service their own mortgages, they dont re-sell or farm them out. However, I WAS disappointed in their very high-cost re-fi fees, while other banks offered to do this for free for their customers, WSECU wanted $3-4k which was outrageous, so I wound up paying off my loan instead of paying that enormous fee. And they are keeping up with the times, with mobile apps (although, not one for Windows phone sadly enough) Real branches, not 'fakeys' like BECU's 'Neighborhood Financial Centers'. The one thing I love about WSECU is that you usually never wait very long. They always have a smile and service is usually fast and accurate. And unlike regular banks, as a union, they have many features for supporting you as a client. Best of all, you don't get hit with a whole bunch of hidden service fees. The 5 stars is for WSECU, NOT for the mortgage servicing department!! I don't know any way to give the mortgage "servicing" department 2 stars without downgrading WSECU, so I won't. Suffice it to say that today was another frustrating experience with the mortgage servicing department. There was a surplus in the taxes and insurance payment on my mortgage (which was news to me until today). They are/were legally required to refund this money, but they did it with no consultation with me about how to refund the money. I noticed a deposit that I couldn't explain and called the credit union but was on hold so long I had to finally hang up without getting help. The folks in mortgage servicing decided which account it should go into and put the money in there which was what I saw earlier today. It would have been a much smoother experience if they had talked to me before all of that happened and would have eliminated a need for a call to the credit union (thank you to Mikhala for helping me unsnarl all of that). I have been a long-time member of WSECU and am always happy with my experience at the branch and with the folks on the phones, but this isn't the first issue with the mortgage servicing department. read more

An update to the multitude of other updates: Today I received a letter from WSECU, apologizing for the mixup regarding my insurance payment. They took full responsibility for the situation, and as they had suspected, the root of the problem lay with the service (what a misnomer) center they use. I think they ought to take that function over themselves and save everyone the headaches. The letter I got today is a very gracious letter which explains what happened and how, and is actually signed with a person's name from the WSECU mortgage servicing department, not the cowardly and anonymous "insurance service center" that was on my first letter (that actually said "second and final notice" although no one seems to know who got the first notice). The service at WSECU was the reason that, despite living outside of Washington state for over nine years, I never switched my bank. I love what they do for members. While most of the WSECU branches are fairly interchangeable, my experience with this branch has dealt mostly with cashier's checks. When moving in, my property manager required deposits in guaranteed funds, so I stopped in here. It was a super easy and free process to get cashiers checks written out. Less than five minutes in and out. And now, since I live back here, I don't have to get a local bank to cash checks and get out cash! Yay! read more

I've been with WSECU for 25 years. I have had a rough 6 months financially, but got paid this week and immediately went to pay off my accounts. WSECU denied my payment through the mobile app, which would have brought my account current, and denied the transfer from my PayPal account which would have paid off all of my overdrafts which has happened after being unemployed for 6 months with no unemployment insurance. I plan on leaving WSECU in about 8 weeks to move to WECU in Bellingham where I live now, and don't plan on ever using WSECU as my primary account again. If it wasn't for a 10 year old credit line with them I would just close my account completely after this last abuse. read more

I love this bank! Have been a member for about 10 years. The best thing is that I can use BECU and other local credit union ATMs to make deposits and transactions with no fees. I can always find an ATM with some local credit union so I don't have to pay Bank of America three dollars to get my money out of MY credit union account. Have been very happy with the service, both online and in person. I'll keep my membership until... I dunno, I die, or the sun burns out, or the apocalypse happens! read more

Good service with a nice local feel. I have my car financed through them and got a great rate. Every time I have had to go in or call I have encountered super friendly and helpful bankers. I contemplate changing over all of my banking but the branch is a ways from my house. However for my car loan they are great! read more

We have been with WSECU for over a decade. Never anything but stellar service! The people are friendly and polite, they don't have high employee turnover so we've worked with the same clerks for years. Great rates on loans, no silly fees, and exceptional customer service. The only issue I've had is their updated website. The old one was straightforward and ridiculously easy to use. The new one can be a little frustrating but it's such a minor issue that it is in no way a deterrent for us being their loyal customers. read more

Not sure what's going on with this branch. I've had good experiences in the past, but lately they have been very rude. I went in to cash in my coins, but they had moved the machine. Walked up to the customer service desk, the person was on the phone so I was waiting patiently and she very rudely pointed to the teller and said "Go wait there". I'm pretty sure this was the branch manager. She has been nice to me in the past, but this was just rude. Also, I deposited cash with her ($1000) once we completed the deposit and she gave me a receipt. She then called me while I was on my way home and left me a voicemail she said she miscounted the bills and was changing my deposit amount to $900. I couldn't prove the error so I let it go. Looking back I should have emailed customer service and sent them a picture of my receipt. Now I make my cash deposits through the machines that count the $, because I don't trust them to do it. Wish they would open another branch up north since this is the only one near me. :/ read more

I've had checking accounts with several banks in the past 12 yrs and WSECU has been the worst. They charge a $27 for overdrafts MULTIPLE times for a single transaction instead of once, and do NOT return the additional $27 unless I call them and complain about it. They've been doing this since 2013. Also, they do not connect your credit card to your checking account so if you buy something through paypal and there's not enough money on your checking account, WSECU again charges you $27 PLUS the price of the item you bought through paypal. Other banks draw from your credit card if your checking account doesnt have enough money, but WSECU does NOT let you connect credit card to your checking account for paypal purposes, UNLESS (again) you call and complain for multiple $27 fees. That's unethical and should be illegal. I will report them to the Better Business Bureau. If I could sue them I would have done that, but the attorney's fees run in the thousands vs. the money I've lost through WSECU's fake $27 are less than 700. read more
