After some internet sleuthing, it seemed to be gout! He took some extra days off and we tried everything we could do at home to help him feel better, but we didn't want to cancel our trip. I had a great idea, how about we make the trip a tour of the hot springs of south west Colorado? Since he couldn't hike or bike very well. I had read that acupunture was good for gout and I had gotten it for trauma and anxiety and it was quite effective, so why not give it a try? I made an appointment with Chris and got all of the paperwork done on the way there. He was so kind and gentle and it felt great just to be in his presence. I went for a bike ride along the river and my husband got his treatment. It went well and he sent some Chinese herbs to our house. This condition resolved itself very quickly and my husband was back to mountain biking and hiking. Did some cleanup of the diet, took some supplements, Chinese herbs, and got an at home uric acid meter to monitor ups and downs. So far,so good, no pain! The clinic is right on Main Street in Frisco and is both a clinic and a supplement/apothecary shop with Convenient on street parking out front. I cannot remember the last time I had a physician spend over two hours with me to ask questions and get a complete perspective on my health history and current status. She is caring and thorough. After the health review--during which she asked lots of questions about all body systems-- I received a full work up with suggested supplements and foods to add to my diet to support optimum health. I also opted to have blood work done (not here but at local lab). Dr. Nearpass called me herself to give me the results and discuss what those results meant for me. In today's busy world of medicine, i feel so blessed to have found a doctor who takes the time to look at all factors that contribute to overall health--not just treating symptoms. Now Dr. Spence has retired and I have seen Dr. Darnell once and been favorably impressed by his personality and professionalism. Also, the patient portal has now been transferred to one called My Chart where I had to enter my personal information twice before it "recognized" me as an established patient. My records from the Athena portal were supposedly transferred to the new one, but some appear to be missing. That particularly includes my records with other branches of the Valley View Hospital system, which overall has some real problems with communication and quality of care. Roaring Fork Family Physicians has generally been more responsive to my needs than other Valley View branches.
