I was Wynwood for the new Smorgasburg food market and in need of a birthday present when I spotted the Wynwood Kollective across the street. If Etsy is your jam you might like this store. The Kollective sells goods handmade by different local artists. According to their website "Since co-pioneering the internationally renowned art district called Wynwood in Miami, Florida in 2003, artist and community leader Joshua Tiktin has been helping his fellow creators and entrepreneurs expand their reach and elevate their careers. His co-op style galleries and boutiques have housed over 150 artists, fashion designers, crafters, and retailers in numerous locations since 2003" One of those locations includes the Sistrunk Marketplace in Ft. Lauderdale and I have previously visited the Kollective located there. The store is kind of small and cramped but there are three aisles of merchandise which include jewelry, accessories, toys, clothes, bath products, and art. Some of the items were very creative. I especially liked the necklaces made from beach plastic, a druzy ring, funky sunglasses, and the tiny dinosaur succulent planters. Everything was well marked with a price but I just found everything to be very expensive. I was looking for some jewelry to go with a gift card and it was more than I wanted to spend. Even the stuff I thought about for myself was not in a range that made me want to take out my wallet. A tiny star necklace was $35 while a pair of earrings was $54. It was fun looking around though and I might peek my head in again if I was in the area. My response: I appreciate that you are passionate about your business Joshua. The three stars is based on the fact that after I left your store I went to Coral Gables to another gift store where I purchased real silver pieces for less than the costume pieces in your store. I don't shop at Walmart and Target for jewelry. I am so sorry your rent is so high. Wynwood prices are crazy. Some of the people who follow me have already seen my pictures of your jewelry and have inquired about items and I have tried to steer them to you. I sincerely wish you the best.

Great store with interesting concept. All sections are individually owned and stocked so the variety is very eclectic.

How can one adequately describe a place like no other and still do it justice? Haus Fashion Lab…read morefeels more like a museum than a store.... a museum where you can actually afford to take home beautiful piece of art or fashion history! The owner, Emilio Uribe, is a fabulous modern-day renaissance man, collecting (and creating) tons of interesting clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags, other accessories and artwork from both vintage and up-and-coming designers/artists. One never knows what to expect when coming back to Haus Fashion Lab.. The owner makes absolutely sure that the store, just as the customer's experience, is continuously evolving. Every time I go back the store seems to have re-invented itself with a new layout or new line of clothing/accessories or newly-acquired vintage items. HFL is fully committed to detail and to providing customers with a vast array of interesting, beautiful objects and personalized service. On one occasion, I witnessed the owner styling (and doing make-up for) a celebrity for a red-carpet event while agreeing to make custom pants for another customer's 12 year old daughter (to match her mother's) while coordinating a fashion shoot going on across the street at Wynwood Walls.... and he still had the time to make each and every customer feel welcomed as he/she walked through the door! I cannot say enough great things about HFL. There is something for everyone... whether you are male/female, young/mature... and whether you can afford to spend $30 or $3000. It is the absolutely perfect place to buy a unique gift for that person that has everything (while picking up a few fierce pieces for yourself!).

They're not bad either, but they didn't even look or feel high-quality so I can't really justify the prices some of these items were going for. Additionally, the offerings here are looking more "vintage" than "retro." And yes, there's a difference - think about it. And yes, the men's selection is better - but I can't see myself rushing back here either. The decor could use some improvement as well. This looks more like a long rack on the wall.

However, I think this shop epitomizes what isn't working. Yes, the clothes are high end and expensive but I saw few if any pieces that made my heart jump, skip, or hop. There was no Marni mouth dropping moment. There is no love at first sight shoe from Louboutin. There isn't even that odd mix of inspiration and infatuation from Tomas Maier. I found the men's collection to be a bit better with an Etro shirt in a colorful of the moment plaid but overall the store lacked strong pieces or even amazingly feminine staples. Even more telling is the odd, mismatched feel of the store. The aesthetic is worn and dated. Feng Shui anyone? anyone? Speaking of odd the door was locked when I pulled on the handle, in the middle of the day. Suddenly, I felt oh so safe ;-) Again, I want to see more stores, a well curated cocktail of boutiques ranging from hip vintage boutiques brimming with treasures to high end international names, and local up and comers.

Arguably THE lifestyle boutique in Miami BASE, is a perfectly curated masterpiece. The minute you step in you know a lot of thought and love went into this shop. The clean, unique fragrance is Sand, an exclusive designed by BASE's owner Stephen Giles. This store is clearly Gile's vision of a life well lived. From designer clothes to a CD bar BASE has something you're bound to fall in love with. And you'll note that BASE supports the arts from having their own label and a band The Life Project, to holding exhibits during Art Basel. The idea of bringing art into everyday life is obvious especially in the selection of graphic tees and kitschy, colorful toys. They also have a great selection of books some focusing on local art and architecture. If you're on the beach head over to this spot, if nothing else for inspiration on anything from music to decorating. BASE is one of the jewels in South Beach's crown.

Whether you're disgusted by that or attracted to it, Base is a lifestyle store. It's got everything geared to a certain individual. I like going here for the urban toy figures that I like to adorn my cubicle with--my bf likes going here for the overseas imports of electronic cds...this Lincoln Rd boutique also has a small corner room dedicated to haircuts.
