He also let one group member dominate the trip, and spent most of the time answering his questions, which were completely unrelated to the river and really only related to himself. The trip started late because we were waiting for a group of seven, which was annoying. We had literally run from the train station to be there on time. The tour therefore felt rushed and still got back late, which made us late for our next event. Overall, I would not recommend as it is not worth the cost.

The staff were incredibly helpful in the run-up to the event and on the day itself, including the bar manager who made sure everyone got their glass of bubbly at the right moment. The Great Hall has fabulous high ceilings and old fashioned beams and a fireplace along one wall, with loads of room for a sit-down meal for 80 people and then dancing afterwards. The only small draw-back is the close proximity of the Berkhamsted Saturday market, which prevents the use of the front entrance for photos, although this gave us a good excuse to drag everyone to Berkhamsted castle for photos after the ceremony.

"Legs" came the previous day and packed all our glass etc and arranged our furniture so that it was easy to put on the lorry the next day. He was so quick and methodical, and when we opened the boxes months later, nothing was broken. "Legs" managed the team when bringing the furniture back and it was all done seamlessly. The team worked well together and were polite and hard working. Contacting Paula in the office was easy by email, and she was always available especially at the difficult stage of exchange when dates for completion can be changed. Everything was comfortable and clean. My only gripe was the thermostat: no matter what I did, it seemed to reset to 21C, which I find a bit chilly in summer. Staff was friendly and efficient. The location is a bit odd, midway between the train station and airport, but it's similar to other hotels in the area. There's no dedicated shuttle to the airport, you can either walk or take a quick ride on public transit.

Loved the fish and chips although I had better at a local pub but for a Holiday in and room service, piping hot and great crispy batter! The mushy peas had too much mint. Elsewhere I had them with subtle mint and I think a bit of lemon squeezed in and actually like them. Chips were actually better than elsewhere. When you ask for a beer, they don't mess around. A pint seems automatic... which was quite fine with me! Front desk was uber-helpful. I brought the wrong power plug. My travel partner didn't bring any at all. We got loaners without a problem. I got a candy bar every time I walked by. (I'm not sure what it is about Europe and the Mars bars but okey dokey... you offer me free chocolate I'm not going to say "no") Pleasant, uneventful stay... oh!.. and the windows open! (I love fresh air and particularly like a nice cool room to sleep in so that was a bonus)
