We've probably all walked past one of these shops, and gawked in the windows as giggling girls wiggled their toes in giant fish tanks. Saturday was the day when I would become one of them, and I dragged (literally) my boyfriend in for a fish pedi too.
These wee black fish, called Garra Rufa fish, feed on the dead skin cells and disease affected skin cells on your tootsies, leaving them feeling refreshed and soft. We went in on a relatively quiet afternoon, and the assistant gave us a sheet for us to fill in details about ourselves, then we sat up on the wee stools and waited.
The assistant (who looked as if she would have rather been anywhere else in the world) sprayed our feet with water and set a timer for 5 minutes. We dipped our toes in the tank and immidietly, loads of these wee fish clung to the soles of my feet and began really going for it!
The sensation is like pins and needles, with the occasional nip! I have very sensitive feet, very tickly, so this was a bit uncomfortable for me at first but when I relaxed into it, I began to like it! People were stopping at the windows to have a look, but it really didn't bother me at all!
After 5 minutes, the assistant was no where to be seen and we looked around, too scared to take our feet out incase we weren't supposed to! She eventually came after about 10 mins and gave us some towelling to dry our feet.
It was £1 per minute, and we had 5 minutes (well more like 10 since the girl didn't notice our time was up) and I really enjoyed the experience. My feet did feel soft and lovely afterwards! read more
