I could literally hear (loudly) my neighbors who were talking, coughing, going to the bathroom, etc. - not on ocean front and the beach bar had old chairs I think the bad has been factored into pricing but I just wanted to be transparent about some of the issues so that people aren't disappointed. But even with all the negatives, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay because of the staff (including the resident dog). You can stay at other hotels that may have better amenities, but you win't get the same service from the staff as I did at this hotel. It almost felt like they were extended family.

You can see pink flamingos, whale sharks, brown pelicans and frigate birds and it's not overrun by tourists. I'd hate to see that change, but thanks to the NYT, it probably will. CasaSandra is a special place put together with a gypsy sensibility, full of little artful details that make a stay unique. Its a rustic place, not an all inclusive resort, so prepare for that, but staying here is a special experience. We would love to return. We arrived at night, and as we drove up in our golf cart taxi (the only transport allowed on the island) this small hotel was lit up with gorgeous string lights, live music and a Cuban dinner (the owner Sandra hails from Cuba.) At night, this place glows. The island is reachable only by local ferry, and will require some planes, trains and automobiles to get here, but the hotel will arrange transport, for a price, if you want that. The rooms are simple, have no televisions and the wifi is a joke existing (barely) only in the beautiful main lobby. Prepare to unplug, or to be frustrated trying to connect. The rooms at CasaSandra are rustic and artful and feature local textiles, colorful tiled sinks, mosquito netting over the bed, thoughtful local snacks, and a personal, in-room Nespresso machine. The lobby and restaurant area, and the outdoor pool and especially the beach with palm frond topped cabanas are beautiful. There is a good masseuse on staff, to kick off your relax-ment! We had an excellent service experience in the restaurant and hotel and would come back and stay again. Its a small lovely spot and people knew our names and family after several days. The only hiccups were with communication at the start of the visit, and a forgotten booking for a fishing trip, that was remedied the following day. Also, the small hotel next door is in the middle of construction, which normally you'd like to be told of ahead of time. The meals were enjoyable and beautifully presented, but could be pricey compared with other food on Holbox. We have been to the Yucatan five times and CasaSandra is a special place in the world. As always one to avoid crowds we walked in without reservations and were surprised to see just one table inside taken. There's an option of indoor or out and since I had enough bug bites for one week and tired of having to spray my self down every hour we chose to sit inside. Don't let this change your mind to sit outside, the hotel is right on the water and I'm guessing the sunset over dinner can be very romantic. After a short wait our drinks arrived and my girl and I settled on the specials. For her the sword fish and for yours truly the Filet Mignon. The ambience of the restaurant was definitely calm and relaxed, especially since your sitting to the right of the main entrance of the hotel. I think we might have seen 4-5 people walk in and out the entire time we were there. Also I think the hotel guests can see we were having a date night. After a few sips of a Mezcal Tonic and my yummy beer our food arrived. Her sword fish was absolutely amazing with this very flavorful sauce drizzled on and around with small mounds of onions as a compliment. My steak was cooked perfectly. So well that I was reluctant to share.....but of course when your in love...Tiny potatoes and sliced onions were really a nice touch to accompany my Filet Mignon. So all told with a tip (20%) $98. We were warned before we went that this was on the higher side of dining when it comes to price, but we still wanted to try it. Off the beach Staff: helpful and friendly Price: on the high end Food: Snack/ restaurant was great. We mainly used them off the beach service. Daniel was fantastic, helpful, friendly and fast. We also tried the breakfast Buffett and was average, they have lots of options, such as fruit, cereal, bread, omelet and more. Did not get to try sushi but looked good. Room: is kept clean and they do cleaning after each day. Private pool, is not so private in the way that rooms upstairs can see you. Rooms are pretty close to each other. Not sure if it's because we had room near restaurant but noise was always there. At night if there was a wedding we can hear and in the morning by 6:30 you can hear the set up of the breakfast etc... Overall I would go here again just will get another room no so close to restaurant. Family: kid friendly, pools are like toddler size, but also have the bigger share pool available. Side note: not all guest have all amenities, such as bike use, all inclusive does not mean all food.( recommend. Calling as not all drinks/food are included) there is 2 options of all included.

If you have small bags or backpacks, and it's not too hot, you can walk to hotel, but wheelie bags, sand, hot sun and humidity don't mix- easy to take a cab! The hotel is a lovely place. The welcome drinks (non alcoholic) were memorable. DO NOT LOSE OR MISPLACE WRISTBAND. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU. The wristbands are poorly designed and come undone / untied and fall off quite easily. Hotel is situated sideways on a long narrow lot - it's not directly beach facing, but many rooms have partial ocean view. As of 9/6/26, there was construction on the vacant lot to the west side (many room doors face that side, but balconies face away from construction- and most balconies have a partial view of the ocean). I was concerned about the construction workers that camp on- site during the week. However, the noise and disruption proved to be minimal. No idea how long the project will continue until completion. But it definitely impacts the resort. For us, it ended up not being a big deal at all. Front desk staff was very good. Special shout out to Daniel who checked us in and appeared to work a marathon shift - always with courtesy and a smile. The desk staff was helpful with anything we needed. They helped us rent a golf cart and provided local recommendations. Our room - 303- was very pleasant, with a Room layout that was unique. The room was clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, and had all the needed amenities (shower products, coffee tea, well appointed minibar - additional cost for minibar items) . I will mention that the room could use some hooks for hanging towels and robes. Hooks are more handy than using closet hangers. Our room had a rooftop area with loungers that we did not use much. There was not a way to lock the sundeck door, which we found worrisome. It would have been nice to be able to lock it. bedroom AC worked well and maintained a cool temp even with the heat and humidity outside. Shower water pressure and temp were great. Main bedroom area had a balcony overlooking the small pool area. A side note about balcony rails throughout hotel - they are natural wood and look very cool, but they are not sturdy. Warning placards are posted. This resort is not ideal for families with small children. Or staggering drunks, lol. The best rooms face forward to the ocean. there are only about 6 rooms that face to direct ocean. The two north facing lower rooms had small pools on the patio. The kind of pool that looks good but probably never gets used. Those two ground floor ocean facing rooms have no view due to foliage/fence/ golf cart path. Personally , I think being 2nd or 3rd floor is better. Hotel has a small elevator, but taking stairs is easy & convenient. Hotel has a small gym facility that contained everything needed for a workout along with a nice TV and chill AC. Hotel Pool area is small but meets needs. It's a nice option to the beach. There's an outdoor shower in that area that is great to stop in when returning from the beach. To get to beach, Exit hotel grounds past pool, cross a sandy golf cart path, enter Mystique beach club and restaurant area. Very peaceful, charming, and instagramable. The chairs and cushions were comfortable . Umbrellas provided for shade. We visited during the off season (early Sept) and had wonderful weather. (It can be rainy in Sept). Had the beach mostly to ourselves. It was absolutely wonderful. Hotel massage looked great, but was more expensive than other places along the beach - about $80 per hour - but seemed relaxing and private. Very few beach venders on the beach which is nice. No need to worry about your belongings. No one bothers you. Definitely get a mango or coconut from the fruit venders! The restaurant is close to the beach club. Service was great. Laura, our waitress, was especially helpful. Our stay included breakfast, which we enjoyed every day. Beach service was unobtrusive and efficient when requested. There's a slightly loud beach club next door. That club was completely empty most days. Shame they kept the music so loud with no one there. The hotel beach was very nice and seagrass-free during our stay. The water was like a beautiful aqua green bathtub. Very shallow, perfect for floating. There was more sea grass washed ashore heading east along the beach- towards town. Those Beaches were smaller (less beach area) and bit more crowded. Beach gets a bit stinky towards town too. I'd say the best beach area is by the hotel, although it's also very nice past the main town pier area too. Our room was clean but the beds were terribly uncomfortable. Our backs were killing us! The air conditioning does not work at all.. we had that sucker cranked to the lowest it can go but we dealt with it. The toilet paper holder was falling off which was super glued to the wall. For two out of our 3 nights for some reason our shower had a strong sewer/urine odor coming from the shower drain which I guess was coming from the pipes that's connected with the toilet. That was no bueno. Our last night at the hotel at 6:00 am the fire alarm went off 3 times forcing us in a panic to go outside our hotel room thinking there was a fire or some kind of emergency. The hotel staff failed at communicating with us that it's a false alarm or any apologies. When I called the front desk to ask what's going on they said it was due to a faulty system. If your going to take a beverage from the refrigerator in the room they will charge you up to 10 USD for a small can. Nikolas the "manager" told us that they are unable to give us any form of compensation or discount because the owner of the hotel did not allow him to do anything. He said that the hotel couldn't do anything for guest, which I felt that the guest should have some sort of compensation. Nikolai could have been a little more hospitable and could have done something to keep the guest more at ease. All Nikolas kept saying was that the owner knew and that he was told that nothing can be done and that the owner of the hotel did not want to do anything for the guests. The beach area was also very dirty and the hotel did not thing to clean the area, which they should have done due to the pool being unavailable. When we walked onto the beach, it had a horrible smell.

The staff made us a spicy lime habanero salsa to go along. = 1 star The room is smoke free, air conditioned, spacious and the super roomy shower is stocked with your usual toiletries. The balconies all have a couple of hammock chairs as well as a hammock inside the room in front of the balcony- allowing for a sweet ocean breeze. The decor had a definite Mayan appeal as well. = 1.25 stars Customer service was on point even letting us check in early. The receptionist, Erika, did push for us to purchase any activities through the hotel to ensure legitimacy. This is where things went bad. We wished to do the bioluminescence tour, she highly recommended Maestro Alejandro, and praised him indefinitely as he has done this for 25+ years throughout many tourist areas. We paid for our party of 5, were later given our rashguards and told he'd pick us up at 9. He came for the first 3 people in our party then us last 2. It had rained prior to our stay so the roads had puddles, some rather large. Maestro Alejandro drove like a bat out of hell through these puddles and many times I thought I was going to fall off. He later switched me to the front where he had a muddy netted bag by pr feet and again I almost flew off except this time a nut from the missing seat kept jabbing at my back + ribs depending on how I sat. He drove through many streets to the point we had no idea where we were, this will make more sense later. Left us out in a dark secluded area with a very small flashlight and not much instruction, in our midst mosquitoes. We kept getting bite through our rashguards surprisingly but at least one of us had enough sense to bring Off so we sprayed ourselves continuously. Maestro Alejandro kept dropping people off then finally arrived and threw the netted bag and told us all to take scuba gear... yes from the muddy netted bag that was next to our feet!!!! Not new, not clean mind you. At this point I felt compelled to bail out but before I could someone in my party had had enough. Apparently she'd been given a smelly non clean rashguard, given no instruction, left to biten much longer than us, was appalled by the lack of organization, and these unclean gear were the last straw for her so she politely declined to complete the tour. Therein the remaining party all declined. Maestro Alejandro seemed annoyed, and let us leave giving no instruction on where to go for a taxi. We walked in these rashguards, getting bit by mosquitoes, attempting to find a taxi. It seemed like a long time initially until we reached an area we recognized and easily walked back to our hotel in no time. Now the receptionist who'd highly recommended Maestro Alejandro took GREAT care of us and refunded our money in its entirety- for this reason I have to give them a full star in customer service after all, as Erika ensured to make things right. = 1 star Total: 4.5 stars I do recommend this hotel, I do not recommend their tour packages based on our experience.
