Recall the scene in the film Fight Club, where they hurl abuse at new recruits to test their dedication. I imagine that's what the instructor here believes is happening in his head, minus any charisma. There are better options in the same area: Fight City Gym further down the same road, for example.

After about 10mins the instructor came over and asked me to take a seat and wait while he got class underway and thought about what to do. I then proceeded to wait the length of the class with no interaction. While I was waiting a regular student arrived and joined in. The class ended and I thought this would be my chance to explain and chat to the instructor. Unfortunately not after walking around for a couple of minutes the instructor proceeded to call over a purple belt to roll. So after waiting over an hour I took this as my cue to leave. The gym looked good and the class looked intense with students being yelled at to get into better positions or do burpees/push ups if they lost positions in the specific sparring. But the encounter left me feeling very underwhelmed and I won't be back.

KO is a force in Muay Thai boxing and the Bethnal Green gym is well respected. Training is physically demanding and respect must be shown at all times, to instructors and fellow students. In return for your hard work, the gym operates like a family and you can expect vociferous support if you take the ultimate challenge and fight for the club. You will never be pushed to fight though and Thai boxing is a sensational way to keep fit and build self-confidence. KO is a full-time gym. It is open everyday and along with the full size boxing ring, you'll find kick bags and all the equipment you need to get started.

This is a great gym to study Muay Thai. The only reason I…read morestopped goin to this place was because my new job clashed with the gym time table. The instructor here is called Bill. I don't know much about his professional career, but I know he was a champion muay that fighter, and he is a good teacher. One tip from me if you start to go here regularly is invest in your own equipment! In the beginning I did not have my own gloves, so I had to use their public gloves.... they were all sweat drenched, and trust me, it takes ages before you can wash the stench of sweat off your hands! Same goes for the shin guard... they were so wet with sweat that they soaked through my nike jogging bottoms! Also, be careful if ur a newbie. It seems that Bill makes it a point to "demonstrate" on newbies, showing them how powerful Muay Thai is by using his "weak" left leg to kick you "lightly" on your arm... hurts pretty bad! lol. But dnt worry, we have all been there... its like a right of passage.

Well, MY OH MY, Urban Kings' is all of that and SO MUCH MORE! Everyone at the gym is incredibly nice and encouraging. At first, as the unethused girl feeling a little too snug in a pair of (now known to be see through!!)* lulu lemon capris, I was a little apprehensive to be outnumbered by a bunch of expertly trained martial artists in an evening conditioning class. However, towards the end of the class- it was clear that we were all in it together. After being cheered on to plunder through my first real push-up (I can do 15 in a row now!) I was just as encouraging to the bulky man with tribal tattooed to just push through that last round of burpees. I went home sore and SUPER sweaty- but I definitely wanted more, which was almost confusing? because the class was hard.. like 'sore for two days after hard'... or, like 'my mascara runs down my face from sweat' hard! Nonetheless, this isn't a gym to parade around in expensive workout clothes NOR a massive dizzying arena filled with enough random equipment to make your head explode. I've been a part of both and I am happy to say that Urban Kings is the type of gym I've been looking for all along. I come to workout (that IS THE POINT right?!) and get results. I've seen my strength and stamina increase tenfold and I actually look forward to my workouts. I mean, I guess it's worth mentioning the added bonuses which include an incredible staff (it just feels like family, ya know?), a wonderful locker room, beyond amazing classes for every type of fitness enthusiast, and a great smoothie bar!

Years, well you can imagine rusty would be a understatement, but the boxing coach in the class worked me out worked on my technique and I really really enjoyed the session, so I joined. If normal gyms don't really cut it for you and you lose interest in a couple of months this is the place for you, it very clean very modern and like a big family. Try it for your self.
