One thing going for this place is that it has much longer hours than the other eateries that keep…read moreshort operating hours in Hobart's central business district. That's maybe one of the only redeeming qualities. Enticed by the thought of a warm bowl of ramen to soothe my soul, I ordered a veggie ramen for take-away at this ramen-focused establishment. Once I got back to my hotel room, I nestled in to enjoy the warming bowl of broth and veggies but I was sorely disappointed to find that the taste of the soup was a little foul and the hard boiled eggs were of a strange color and consistency. After a few bites, I just couldn't eat anymore, concerned that the suspicious tasting food might actually make me ill. This full rejection of a meal rarely happens to me, especially with a fairly easy meal of ramen. I would not return to this place to try my luck again.

I don't know what happened, but we thought we were up for a nice bowl of ramen tonight. Looking at…read morethe menu it looked a bit funny, but we figured with the good reviews it might be one of those places that are actually surprisingly good. As we got the food, it looked a lot worse than the photos suggested, but still, you might be mistaken. Then we had a few bites, and actually all of the food tasted funky (not in a good way) and dodgy, as though it was last months batch. I had the duck, and my girlfriend had the fried chicken (only edible thing we had), and we mainly just left without eating. I hate giving bad reviews, but I simply can't remember the last time I had such a shit dinner. I hope they change their way soon!

Excuse me, Kobe, but I'm a little bit in love with you…read more I first stuck my head in here on the way home from a dentist appointment because I needed a bit of cheering up after that horror, and because I recalled seeing someone online raving about the ramen noodles being handmade, and Kobe being the only place they'd come across so far in Hobart who go to such care. Well! On walking in the door, the loveliest older pair of staff welcomed me so kindly, I almost considered asking for a hug (pls remember, dental trauma). Instead I took a seat at the table I was escorted to, and then eyeballed the menu for longer than I care to admit, waging a war within myself. I came in with the intent of eating the ramen, but all I wanted once I saw chicken katsu don was chicken katsudon. I suddenly and urgently missed the days of hanging out at Hanaichi in Brisbane with my heart friends. So I got the chicken katsudon, with hearty encouragement from the lovely older lady, because it's her favourite. IT WAS SO DELICIOUS. It's like a comfort food is back in my life and I'm so, so happy about it. Have I been back already? I sure have. The second time, I stuck to my guns and had the Kobe ramen. It was also delicious, hearty and messy (like all good ramen should be). Now all I need to do is never stop visiting. The layout is a bit strange, being in the ground floor of some kind of short-stay apartment building, with entrances to the accommodation in the middle of the restaurant (which I guess once just served as a foyer but has now been farmed out). I suppose if anything, I hope Kobe gets the chance to move locations and find somewhere they fit a bit more comfortably. But if they're comfortable here, then I'll get comfortable here, too. As long as nobody takes my katsudon away from me.

We continued with our hunt for Malaysian food in Australia and dined here for dinner one night…read more It was a popular casual spot and filled up quickly. The menu had all the Malaysian food we were familiar with. Orders were placed and paid for at the cashier in the front. Tap water, utensils and napkins were self serve at the front. The sequence of our order was a little different with the entrees first and the roti last. The laksa was full of chicken, bean sprouts and thin noodles. I just got regular and it packed enough heat from the soup for me. However I was expecting more flavors out of this laksa based on past experience. The seafood CKT had a good mix of shrimp, squid, mussels and fish balls but seemed a bit on the smaller side. The smokiness of the wokhei was good and the overall dish had the right amount of oiliness. The roti was disappointing as it seemed overly fried and difficult to pull apart. The side of sauce tasted like the laksa soup but I detected an older oil taste when chewing it. Definitely not one I'd order again. Dishes were cleared by the staff after our meal and the next customer waiting inside quickly took over table. Overall a mixed bag for us.

This dish included a flat noodle, slices of chicken breast, thin beef slices, and beef balls. I found the Pho broth alittle weak and the beef slices alittle tasteless for my liking. This likely means they must of used the meat for my dish to boil down for the flavor. There were no fresh slices of beef on this serving cooked or raw. Usually the hot broth can cook down the the thin raw beef slice and insures fresh tasty beef. So I've had much better. There were a lot of locals coming in to purchase take-away bites of sorts such as the spring rolls and bites on a stick. This is why I picked this place, but was disappointed in the flavor in dish. At least the beef balls was tasty that was included. I always check the cleanliness of the pea sprouts, which seemed decent. There were no mint leaves, a few sprigs of cilantro, and the slice of lemon. There was of course a bottle of Siracha Hot Chili Sauce at the main counter. The eating environment was okay for typical Asian eatery, for a hot summer day, not the best as you may roast yourself. Not much space for a large group, mostly small tables.
