I saw Mel at Pacific NW Pilates and in 3 months I had full range of motion back and it was never painful. Also, the doctor told me that I would never play tennis again and that I would need a full shoulder replacement within five years. The resident instructors have an extremely deep knowledge and the classes are often small (approx 5) providing a lot of personal attention, unlike large gym club classes. I attend a weekly group class and take private sessions every two weeks from Leslie Braverman, one of the owners. Leslie has transformed me, no more back and knee pain and my flexibility has improved significantly. I wish I had started many years ago. For any guys reading this who think Pilates would be too easy for them, come along and give it a try. It is way tougher than you think and begun as a training technique for boxing (enough said). If you are just looking for a trendy place to be seen, this isn't it, Pacific Northwest Pilates is all about a high quality workout.

In our initial conversations, they said they could meet with our 4 year old and see if he was ready but then they changed their mind and "decided to draw a firm line" at 5 years old. The problem with this is that our son is 4 and will be 5 years old just DAYS before he starts kindergarten. We wanted the opportunity to allow him a couple weeks of private lessons to understand if he liked it and if he felt ready to take on a full semester. The school denied us and said we were welcome to sign him for the 18 week fall semester. This is actually hurting his abilities since his fellow 5 year old classmates/cohort of which he is held to the same standard in every other way, would have the opportunity to be exposed to piano gradually during a calm summer, but our 4.9 year would get no such benefit. I must admit that I've heard good things about the Academy (indeed that is why we're so heartbroken to not be a part of it) though we have decided against participating with this school even when he is older. I understand the basis for a rule like this but abiding to the letter of the law in this circumstance seems cold. A staff that is unable to look at your child and the situation and make the best decision for everyone involved is not a place we feel we belong.

Lower school…read more(PS-5th grade) is French language immersion but the middle school has 5 language tracks, including English only, French (obviously), German, Chinese, and Spanish. The student-teacher ratio is purposefully low and my kid is eager to come to school every day. The campus is big and the other parents are so welcoming. When your kids have historically not liked school, and then you switch to a different school (FAIS)…read moreand they repeatedly tell you how much they love their school and how they are glad they don't go anywhere else.....you thank your lucky stars that a school like FAIS exists! This school gives kids the wiggle room, the outdoor connection, a Global perspective and basis of information for learning, a rigorous and enriching IB program, amazing art/music/PE that is woven into their everyday subjects beautifully, caring faculty, a small teacher:student ratio, and it instills a love of learning that, based on what I hear from alumni, carries on into their higher education. And let's be real, hearing your child carry on a conversation with their teachers and friends in French is pretty darn cool. Especially when neither parent at home speaks it!
