Heads up: there are no actual bulls here. The location is for an office of a rodeo manager.

The Historic Washington State Park is absolutely incredible! A jewel of a historic park that…read morereminds me of some of the preserved colonial settlements I visited in my childhood in New England. The park has buildings representative of some of the state's important eras, a surrey ride with two gorgeous and enormous beast of horses, a delicious restaurant with some southern cooking staples I'd missed from my childhood, well-curated exhibits and tours, and a friendly, passionate staff I want to bring home with me. Oh! And a bed and breakfast in the old jailhouse! And it's one of the loveliest pleases I've stayed. This is a great weekend trip. The only downfall is that there's not much else for many miles around, but it truly doesn't matter because there's enough to do in the park that you don't need to have anything else to do. Ive had such a wonderful time the 24 hours I've been here and I have about 16 more. Hot tips: byob and eat at Big Mac's and make sure you try the ribeye (only on Fridays) and the brisket.

Be sure to sign up for a tour and give yourself plenty of time to soak it all in. We took the the horse and buggy tour. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the park and friendly while sharing the history. The horses pulling the carriage were Black Percheron. Was able to give them some scratches on there head and they were quite friendly. Will have to go back and spend more time soaking up the town.

We wanted to show the kid Caddo lake so we drove from Dallas to do a tour with Captain Ron…read more Ron is a down home friendly guy who obviously loves people, his job, and Caddo lake. During the 90 minute boat tour, he was enthusiastic and passionate about the lake. He really seemed to enjoy sharing his immense knowledge the lake, both real and legend. I learned a lot and he made the tour very interesting. The day we went it was a bit chilly and overcast. It had just rained so the lake water was muddy, and therefore we did not see much wildlife, just a busy beaver and some blue herons. You can go during the summer when the water is clearer and see turtles and dragon flies. During the summer, the climate is much hotter and humid and there is little air flow on the lake, so be prepared to sweat. Cool and overcast actually was preferable IMO. The wife and I had toured the lake about a decade ago and we left from the northern part of the lake. Our opinion is that despite the fact that Captain Ron did a great job, the northern part of the lake is more interesting than the southern part where Captain Ron is now located.

Had the best experience on the water today. Did a late afternoon tour w/ Captain Ron. It's fun and easy to reach/enjoy with family friendly opportunities for hiking, fishing, boating, swimming, grilling, camping (cabins available too) - very close to Hot Springs which has a lot of beauty from the National Park in downtown to the lookout tower atop the highest point in downtown - including the natural hot springs which makes this place famous for America's first off season professional baseball camps and the likes of gangsters and movie stars all mingled alongside the everyday persons enjoying the same or hanging out at the horse races. It's a cool place to visit and you'll have a super time at the park - with other states parks and lakes and rivers/hiking and nature all around!

Lake Catherine-- We absolutely love this lake!…read more Although, I felt like things were not labeled as they should have been during the hike of "Falls Creek Falls". There were marks on trees during the hike that were red, white and yellow, but I had no idea what those meant. Maybe this part of town is less touristy and more locals, because people had set up hammocks, and all of their things that they needed for the night/day around the waterfall after the hike. I spoke to a sweet man and woman on a golf cart who seemed to work there, as they were going around and changing papers for the reservations for there were trailers in the parking lot, and they advised us on where to go and park. They did advise us that if you go on the trails, if you go towards the left, the hike is shorter and it's about a 1/2 a mile, and if you go towards the right, it's about a mile and a 1/2 Which is a great tip because, of course, we wanted to take the shorter route. We had a toddler and an elderly person with us, and so we did not want to do a strenuous hike. This hike was just enough for us to feel better adventurous, and like we accomplished something when we got to the falls. The falls were beautiful, and the water looked gorgeous. Although, I did see later on another app, that a lot of times sewer water gets into the falls. Unfortunately, we had decided to take a dip even though we didn't have swim suits just because it looks so refreshing but it's just something to keep in mind. Overall, we would definitely come here again! It looks like a great place to bring lunch and hang out and eat after a great hike!
