The salad had lettuce, a few cucumber slices, halved cherry tomatoes, raw broccoli,and mushroom slices. I chose the honey mustard vinaigrette, it was delicious and paired really well with the fish. Kids meal chicken tenders came with fruit cup, drink, and dessert. Chicken tenders were so thin, they were quite overcooked and hard. Little one loved the brownie and ice cream dessert. Washrooms: 2.5/5 One of the ladies stall did not have toilet paper, and the floor was very sticky, felt very grimy just going in to wash our hands. They did have a robust paper towel dispenser, and positioned disposal bins by the sink as well as the main door leading to the washrooms, very considerate for those who wish to open the door with the paper towel on the way out. When it was time to order, we decided we wanted to do a big breakfast. I wanted to order additional protein sides to the three egg breakfast (sausage, bacon, ham), but the process they had in place made that unusually difficult compared to other breakfast places. I also wanted a waffle as a side order, which they don't offer, again very strange. They ended up charging me $12 for one waffle. When we were done, we hadn't seen the waitress for a while. She eventually showed up, asked if we wanted anything else, we said we were done, and she walked away. We thought she was getting the bill. So we wait, and wait... eventually I had to approach another waitress who was working very hard. She went to go find our waitress and finally we were able to pay the bill. On the way out, the hostess at the door had been on the phone for at least the last 15 minutes. As we were walking out, I expected her to acknowledge us leaving. She didn't. She just had this bored, miserable look on her face while on the phone and completely ignored us. It's unfortunate because the food was great, but the service and atmosphere ruined the experience. Tried this place for the first time to end off our girls night out…read more Ambiance - 3.5/5: bigger store than Mom's Kitchen so there are ample seats. When you walk in, you seat yourself. The seats are wooden and not very comfortable if you sit for a long time. They also have 1 universal bathroom. It was big but they ran out of toilet paper. Service - 4/5: they were relatively quick with the orders. Once you know what you want, you order up front and they give you a buzzer with a number. Please note, once you are finished, you need to bring your tray and bowls back up to where you pick up your food. It's an open kitchen so you can see them preparing your food so it's a bonus. Food - 3.5/5: we ordered a winter melon tea, purple rice soup with taro balls, hot almond soup with tofu pudding with an added topping of taro balls, as well as tofu pudding C (comes with rice balls and sweet potatoes). Ranking it based on sweetness: 1. Tofu pudding C - the syrup was very sweet. A little bit of ginger in the syrup would have cut through the sweetness but there needs to be a fine balance. I wonder if the sweet potatoes were cooked in syrup cause it was sweeter than usual. I liked that they got a few clean scoops so the tofu pudding was not broken up. 2. Winter melon tea - lowest sugar that they can make it with is 50%. Definitely sweet. I took a sip and I was done. 3. Purple rice pudding with taro balls - it was sweet but tolerable. It came with cream but I'm not sure it added to it. 4. Hot almond soup with tofu pudding with an added topping of taro balls. In the future, I won't ask for tortilla chips on my burrito bowl because they were soggy by the time I got home. Interior On the wall, there's a large, helpful drawing of the different types of Mexican foods with explanations of burritos, bowls, tacos, guacamole, salsa and quesadillas. There were four in my party. We were lucky to get seating at lunchtime on a weekend since there are only enough chairs for 8 people. Everything was clean including the tables. Service The staff and manager were nice and welcoming. They were ready to answer all our questions and give advice on the popular sauces.
