The drive through the mountains from Asheville was beautiful, and upon arrival we felt such a sense of peace. We arrived toward the end of the day, and our amazing girl was wrapped in her blanket and cremated under a starry sky. We were relieved to hear that Clementine's ashes were ready for pickup sooner than expected. Our only regret is that Angels with Paws did not provide cremation services for our previous animals years ago. We have always had suitable experiences in the past, but this was different. But I was able to find Pet Pilgrimage. From the moment I called to speak with Becky my heart was a bit lighter that he was going to be taken care of the way would have. Our Buddy declined quickly and we had to make the difficult decision to have put to sleep on the Friday after Thanksgiving, 2022. Our appointment at the vet was not until 4:30pm but the folks at Pet Pilgrimage were so accommodating. Our vet had put Buddy in a box for us which we hand delivered to Pet Pilgrimage. I wanted to make sure Buddy was wrapped in his favorite blanket he had since he was a puppy, his favorite toy nestled in his arms and pictures of our family with him. When we dropped him off Lisa told us to take our time saying good bye. We spent some final moments with our little guy. I was able to cover him up, give him his Lamby, and kiss his sweet face. Lisa set our expectations to say I would receive a call first thing Monday morning to pick him up. With it being holiday I completely understood that it would take longer than the estimated 48 hours. Due to my own impatience of wanting Buddy home I called around 9:45am on Monday. Becky said I was going to be her first call at 10 - because she wanted me to have time to wake up before getting the news Buddy was ready and not open up a raw nerve. Thoughtful beyond words! I loved how she referred to him as my baby - because he is my baby... When we picked him up we were given a beautiful bag - and the living tree urn with Buddy's remains. The paw prints were perfect. What I realize now and I didn't at the time - was how anxious I was to get Buddy home. The folks at Pet Pilgrimage understood that for me. She passed on the 20th and this company goes above and beyond to offer genuine care and services in the aftermath of what can feel like overwhelming grief. Eric and his company are doing God's work. You cannot choose a better company. PS Just realized that all of this care, all of this service was even more above-and-beyond: they didn't have a credit card on file for me and thus I had not paid a dime for anything. I am absolutely heartbroken and disgusted by my experience with Pet Serenity…read more A couple of weeks ago, I had to make the devastating decision to put down my 4-year-old Boston Terrier, Bear. I had never had to put a dog down before, and because Bear meant everything to me, I thought choosing an in-home service would make his final moments more peaceful and comfortable. Unfortunately, I was completely wrong--or at least I was wrong in choosing Pet Serenity. I do want to say that the veterinarian who came to our home was wonderful. She was kind, compassionate, and understanding during one of the worst moments of my life. I cannot say the same about the rest of my experience. Bear passed away in my arms. I held him and cried until I reached a point where I emotionally could not handle seeing him that way anymore. My mother went outside and asked the man who was there to please come take Bear from me. Instead of immediately and compassionately helping, he came inside, spoke with my mother, handed her a business card, and then went back outside for approximately five minutes--all while I was still sitting there holding my deceased dog in my arms. He eventually came back inside with a bag and explained what he was going to do. Personally, I did not need or want those details in that moment. I was devastated. He then laid Bear down and began preparing the bag while I turned my back because I could not bear to watch. Hearing that bag being zipped around my 4-year-old dog is something I will never forget. It was torture. The entire process felt unnecessarily drawn out and made an already traumatic moment even worse. Unfortunately, the experience did not end there. The package I purchased included Bear's remains, paw prints, and other memorial items. When Bear's remains were returned to me, I later noticed that the nameplate had his birthday engraved incorrectly. I contacted Eric and explained the mistake. Approximately one to two weeks later, I received a replacement nameplate. The replacement was wrong too. At that point, I called Eric again because I genuinely wanted to understand what was happening. Did the engraver have Bear's correct information? Why did this keep happening? Instead of showing even a basic level of compassion or professionalism, Eric became extremely rude and began yelling at me. He eventually hung up on me and told me to text him. During the conversation, he made comments to me including, "I'll match your energy all day," "We can do this all day," and "Your $300 doesn't mean anything." I was stunned. This was not a disagreement over some ordinary purchase. I was calling about the memorial for my 4-year-old dog who had just died in my arms. I was already grieving, and I simply wanted the memorial items I paid for to have Bear's information correct. When your business provides end-of-life services for beloved pets, compassion should not stop the moment the pet passes or the payment is made. Families are grieving. They are vulnerable. They deserve patience, kindness, professionalism, and respect. Mistakes happen. I could have understood the first incorrect nameplate. But when the replacement was also incorrect, I had every right to ask questions and expect the issue to be corrected without being yelled at, spoken down to, or told that the money I paid "doesn't mean anything." I am incredibly disappointed, angry, hurt, and disgusted by how I was treated and by the overall handling of Bear after his passing. If you are considering Pet Serenity because you believe an in-home euthanasia will make saying goodbye to your pet more peaceful, I strongly encourage you to reconsider. Losing Bear was already one of the most painful experiences of my life. The last thing I needed was for the company I trusted with his final moments and remains to make that experience even more painful. Bear deserved better. And grieving pet owners deserve better.
