When you walk in, you feel like you have left the western world behind and at once reappeared in Lhasa, Tibet. The décor is part of the dining experience here. And if you would like some of the art or decorations to go home with you, there is a Tibetan shop adjacent to the restaurant. Recently a quick but filling bite to eat before meeting a friend for an early performance at the Volksoper was what I needed. I decided to order something actually not Tibetan but from the neighboring country of Bhutan. And that is the Bhutanese national dish of Ema Datshi. This spicy and cheese-filled sauce and rice dish was perfect - especially accompanied by an oft-folded Tibetan Ting Mo to take the edge off of the spiciness. Service was nice enough and I left happy. My favorite Tibetan restaurant had come through again!

In this restaurant they use delicous spices and well-steamed vegetables and tasty meat. I never was disappointed when eating lunch or dinner here. The only thing maybe can be complained is, that they sometimes use a bit too much salt in my opinion. The taste experience is somewhere between chinese and indian style food, but have their individual taste anyway, and can not be compared to instant food here around. The waiters are friendly and open for special wishes, but for people who are in hurry maybe this is not the right restaurant, because as it's a "slow-food" restaurant, also at lunch time, you will not always be served within few minutes. Usually I get my food in between 5-10 minutes, but sometimes also had to wait for 15-20 minutes. But for this type of restaurant and the freshly cooked food in my opinion totally acceptable. The atmosphere is cozy, quiet and almost a bit meditative, because of the music they play and the tibetan-spiritual decoration they have and the incense smell in the air :) For people who want to relax and calm down from the daily hectic the perfect place!

We found this place just because it was near us and not Austrian (we've had a lot of Austrian food…read moreby this time). We got there 10 minutes before closing and the owner graciously allowed us to sit and eat. We had low expectations because we had some Nepalese food in Innsbruck that was essentially flavorless, and we assumed it was tuned to the Austrian palate. (No offense intended, Austria.) The food here was not only bursting with flavor. It was properly spicy! The place itself was beautiful, too. We're only here for a couple days but plan to eat here again before we leave.

Our family of 4 visited late around 8pm on a Monday. The owner sat us and was our server. I had a…read moremurgh biryani, which was very good. The spices were flavorful but less intense than Indian food I've had in the past. I could taste the different spices, and each dish had a distinct flavor. Medium spice felt present but not dominating. The owner stopped by for conversation a couple times. By around 9, we were the only guests, so we had plenty of time to chat with her. She told us that she has been running the restaurant for 28 years, and we learned about her experience as Austria has diversified culturally over the past decades. In the beginning, Austrians did not know what Indian food was, and she had to fill her suitcase with important spices each time she visited home. Overall, great experience. Come for the food, and enjoy the conversation if you're lucky!

I attempted another Indian place and again, sheer disappointment :( Unless you like to find little…read morerocks in your food, I would avoid this place. I gave the rock, which I broke with my teeth, to the waitress and she could care less. No discount and no apology. The tandoori chicken was salty, rice and lentils were bland, and the naan tasted like a tortilla. If someone knows of a great Indian place in Vienna, please tell me!
