I have been coming here for about 6 months now for eyebrow threading. My first visit was after two…read moreyears of allowing my brows to grow out and never being threaded (only waxed), so I was nervous; however, my esthetician made me feel comfortable and talked to me throughout each step of the process. I really appreciated how she took her time to go over each part in detail and show me in the mirror what she was doing. She also evened out my brows since one had started growing higher than the other, making them look uneven! Since that first visit, I come by every 4-5 weeks for maintenance on my brows. It's generally a quick visit, maybe 15-20 minutes, and I leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. The salon itself is very nice. The space where they perform the brow/lash services always smells good and it's a relaxing ambience, very quiet and with soothing textures (cozy blankets for where you put your feet) and colors. Coming here each month or so always feels like a little treat to myself.

I had previously gotten Juvederm in my frown lines, but all that did was make my face look fatter. When I went to Dr. Kerin, he showed me how injections under my eyes and at my jowls could decrease the deepness of those lines without losing facial structure. I got an awesome groupon here ($15 for 5 sessions; gosh, I really should've went for the 10…read moresessions one ...) and I have very ambiguous feelings about the upcoming end. It's great to come in, get my eyebrows threaded, and feel like the tip that I pay upon leaving is how much I actually paid. Even so, $3 + $2 leaves me with a measly $5 operation after which I feel like I am much more presentable to the world. After all, I have a really bad habit of not coming to get my eyebrows threaded until they're in a bad shape; they always have to reshape when I come :x It's recommended that you get your eyebrows threaded every 2 weeks so that there isn't as much pain. (I guess the pain comes from the shaping, rather than the trimming). Five minutes of agony and sometimes tears - girls, don't wear non-waterproof mascara or eyeliner if you plan on being seen in public afterwards - but it's totally worth it. The minutes are gone before you know it, and the soothing mini-massage of the brows with the aloe gel help tremendously. Both Manisha and Maggie are very nice, and they can be talkative if you want or silent while you concentrate on bearing out the pain. I tend towards the latter. :x For those who were not able to get the groupon, they do have a $5 threading early morning special from 10-11am! :) Everything else is pretty reasonably priced as well. The only con is that this is kind of out of the way for me, especially now that I go to school in Washington Heights; although I really like this place, I'm not thaaat willing to trek this far. There isn't really much around in this neighborhood, and I don't feel entirely safe walking around when it gets dark. You actually have to ring a bell before you can get buzzed in, which is a reasonable safety precaution, but ... yeah, that makes me feel uneasy. Overall, Eyebrows Threading Spa is very neat, well-kept, comfortable, and relatively painless. The whole experience is smooth, and the clean, tasteful interior is definitely NOT what you'd expect from the surrounding area during the trek to and from the nearby subway stations. Do not be alarmed by the area, either; it's not actually unsafe. I think. :)

This is the best review I could give this place unfortunately. It's partially my fault for being…read moreshort on time and wanting my hair cornrowed that made me choose this place. The shop wasn't busy, so maybe that should have been a warning, but like I said, I had a time limit and at least it was quiet. I usually let the stylist decide on a design for me but opted for a simpler design thinking it would be less expensive since her prices were based on size and complexity of the braids. My hair is pretty thick and she worked very quickly. Everything looked pretty good, but since I was looking into a dirty mirror, it wasn't until later on that I noticed all the faults. For what I paid, $45 + 20% tip = $55, the work should have been immaculate. I don't know how she is with her other services, but I would not recommend her for braiding natural hair.
