Upscale feel? No. I remember when it was an Almacs grocery store about 25 years ago. Same floors. Same feel. Big place. But their selection of Scotch warms my kilt. Also, one time I was looking for a nice old bottle of tawny port, and found one of several that could have remembered Almacs. What Yankee lacks in ambiance it more than makes up for in selection. I made a purchase in the Norwood store today and on the way home I realized that I was overcharged. When I got home and looked in the bag I saw there was no paper receipt, but I checked the online prices and charge to my credit card and confirmed that I was overcharged. I telephoned and spoke to Isaac Macy who was less than helpful. Required me to come back to the store to resolve the issue. I offered to give him my credit card over the phone and he would not accept. I asked to speak with someone else and he said he was the "general manager". I think he may have inflated his title a bit. Best prices in the area. I am from Rhode Island and shop here all the time for my liquor supplies for both my bars at home. I have an outside Tiki yard with a bar that many of my friends love and a downstair Pirate Bar which my friends call a destination and are very amazed. I love to keep both bars stocked all the time for when we have visitors and Yankee Spirits lets me do it affordably. On hard liquor, I would save $5. to $9. on a bottle here compared to Rhode Island liquor stores which can't even begin to compete on any level. When purchasing a lot, now we are in the summer season, that can add up. I love to visit on a Saturday just after noon, as they allow companies to set up tasting booths for liquor and wines. I'm not really into wine but my girlfriend is. I understand there's quite a selection of cheap, moderately priced, and high end wines. The prices for beer and liquor are the cheapest in the area too. My favorite liquor store!! They have EVERYTHING you could ever want... this place is HUGE! A lot of the employees are a little rough around the edges but for the most part they are nice people and are helpful when you have questions. Also a lot of them are absolutely hilarious which I can always appreciate. The prices at this place are some of the lowest I've ever seen, at least in this area. Great selection! Great prices! Knowledgable staff (at least for beer and whisky.....those are my drinks of choice, can't speak for other departments). And most of the employees are quick and courteous. I have very few complaints and would honestly would love to give Yankee a five star review, but three major things stand in the way of that. 1.The sound and smell from the redemption/recycling room 2.No public restroom.....how can a place where they sell that much booze, not offer you a place to take a leak!?!?!?! 3.There are (at least) two different cashiers there who are not even a little careful when handling your purchases. It is really infuriating to buy a really nice bottle (of beer/wine/spirit/whatever your pleasure), and have some unattentive employee slam it into the bag, making a loud thump on the counter..... Once I spent 17 dollars on a Belgian import (beer) that i heard was delicious....never got to drink it because this woman slammed it into the bag, the bottle exploded in my fridge that night. read more

I asked and was told, "Oh, we had inventory yesterday so we have not been stocking the shelves so it makes it a,whole lot easier for us." When I say "they have beer", what I REALLY mean is they they have the "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory" selections of beer; an enormous selection of flavors and locations (yup...not your typical Bud Lite with Lime, here). All well-lit, well-stocked, organized, and CLEAN! *Currently: there is a small section of "holiday-themed" gifts (bottle+glass/shaker, holiday-themed beers, amaretto and brandy also occupy this area). *Plenty of parking! But navigate slowly (people with carts full of libations don't always look where they're goin'). *GREAT wine services - I may have briefly resided in the Tuscan hills....but I'm no connoisseur de vin. Ask at their service desk for pairings or suggestions within your price range (whether it's from Washington or the Loire Valley....they have it all). *Any HEY! REDEMPTION CENTER! Yep - return your empties (glass, plastic, aluminum) for redemption receipts which you can then put towards your NEXT purchase! ...Here's the thing, though.....this cramped space has stickier floors than a frat house after St. Paddy's day (and a smell that rivals an inexperienced environment's compost bin....BAD!). I try to get in-and-out as QUICKLY (and with as few breaths) as possible. But even after I've moved into the warmth of the main store, the familiar "CLANK crunch CRASH!" and related odors come wafting over the partial wall and invades my attempts of holiday beer (or cheer, whatever). Thus the removal of one star (sorry, Yankee). Something for everyone - so this is the best (and actually AFFORDABLE-ish) way to stock up for your Chanukah, Christmas, Solstice, or just plain'ol New Years celebrations! read more

I was born and raised and Attleboro, and this is just the unrivialed spot to get beer, wine, spirits. Only place I shop for that stuff when I'm in the area. I think I heard on the radio that they're opening a new one in Swansea, too! I heard something about free food and free samples from Fosters and Barefoot wines, and some kind of big grand opening celebration next weekend (July 27-30). Almost overwhelmingly big (that's what she said). Luckily, it is well lit, the sections are clearly labeled, and I am always approached by someone asking me if I need help finding anything. It was the beer selection that brought me in here years ago, but it's the wine selection that has kept me going back (that, and its proximity to my favorite Polish market, but I digress). I like to go here to stock up for the holidays...a handle of something to spike the eggnog for my party, some nice wines for my family's dinner, and a bottle of a lovely liquor (also great selections in this area as well) to give as a gift. The old Almacs turned into a beer & wine heaven. They put on free seated seminars with wine makers every few months. They have 2 major (200+ bottles) wine tastings and many more small/specialty tastings a year that only cost a $5 donation to St Judes (same schedule for beer). They even have scotch tastings. They have small (2-5 bottle) liquor tastings on Friday, Sat & Sun. Huge selection of cheap to expensive... And they will help you find the perfect bottle for any occasion. Overall a good place for wine. I attended a wine tasting and It was great to have a chance to sample up to 90 wines. If you do go to the tasting make sure to circle the wine you requested. After waiting in line to pick up the wine twice about 15 minutes each they had zero bottles of nine reserved. I left the store with nothing I have to attribute this to the fact that they were very busy. They are a great place overall thus 4 stars. Yankee Spirits is a booze hound's dream. It's a warehouse of liquor, beer, wine and mixers that could satiate the appetite of anyone who enjoys an adult beverage (or five). They have a giant mix-a-six section and offer bottles and cans of beer from around the US and World (and a large NE selection for those who prefer to shop/drink local). They have tastings on a regular basis and had several going on during my last visit. I wasn't able to partake at the time, but they had a least one beer and one wine tasting going on. They always have great sales going on and I don't think I've ever gone in and not been able to find something awesome (and booze makes a great gift!). So, stock up on all of your fave libations for the holidays and be the belle of the Christmas ball with a bomber of a rare brew or a cheap giant bottle of gin (I prefer New Amsterdam!). I always hit up YS when I'm in the area because of the awesome beer selection and good prices. read more
