Months ago I received an Earl May gift card. A few weeks before Christmas I decided to stop in here…read moreand use the gift card on some holiday plants. Specifically, poinsettias. The two poinsettias I chose didn't have foil wrappers on them, they were just in the black grow pots. I asked the salesperson working if they had any extra foil wrappers, and he explained that their supplier didn't send them with the plants (or ran out, I can't remember which). This was kind of disappointing. I thought for sure Earl May would have a back stock of these cheap foil wrappers, but there wasn't any attempt made to go beyond the explanation I was given or even recommend what I might use in their place. I wasn't going to buy pots. I didn't press the issue because these were for myself. Had I been buying them for others as gifts, I would have put them back, or asked that a wrapper be taken off of another plant. Not sure why I didn't ask about this in the first place, other than it seemed like I would have been inconveniencing this employee. Since I had the gift card and a coupon, I went ahead and left with the ones I had chosen. Their overall selection was pretty skimpy at the time I was there. poinsettias were just on one display near the cash register area. My poinsettias are still alive, though I wouldn't say thriving. Nice, clean store. Nice items for sale. Customer services was fine, but not extraordinary. Few customers and enough employees that I expected better. For selection I recommend Iowa City Landscaping and Garden Center or make the drive to Pierson's in Cedar Rapids.

I purchased 2 pink dogwoods and followed all of the planting, watering, and soil treatment guidelines per the staff and plant library recommendations. First tree did not make it through the winter. The replacement did not even make it 3 months despite doing everything staff recommended. ' To my dismay, the company will not replace a tree a 2nd time, so I am out over $250.00. For that reason, in spite of the helpful staff, I am taking my business to local greenhouses (whose prices are typically much more consumer friendly).

Rude, unprofessional, and completely lacking compassion…read more I reached out to Liberty Lawn & Home Care to ask about mowing services for my elderly parents in North Liberty. I'm currently arranging care from out of town and trying to line up reliable help during a very stressful season of life. We have our own zero-turn mower, so I simply asked (as I've done with other local companies) what the rate would be if they used our equipment versus theirs -- a totally standard question when collecting bids. The owner replied with this: "You wouldn't ask a steakhouse to cook a steak you brought in would you? Respectfully please move on to the next company." I was stunned. It was rude, dismissive, and completely unnecessary. I wasn't demanding anything -- just asking for clarity while trying to take care of my aging parents and lighten the load on their end. Instead of offering even a basic explanation, PJ chose to belittle me with sarcasm and send me on my way. If you value kindness, professionalism, and basic human decency -- especially during tough seasons of life -- I recommend hiring someone else. This company made an already hard situation feel even harder.

This company's complete lack of professionalism will ensure I never utilize them for any services…read more When a potential customer reaches out for a quote with variable options don't write them off with some seemingly misogynistic junk about "bringing steak to a steakhouse".

Just wanted to give a shout out to the good service I receive here regularly, and especially a few…read morenights ago, and specifically this time to Emily. I live in Bettendorf, but am in Iowa City frequently as my wife and I have 3 daughters living there. Two daughters live very close to this hardware store and I was string-trimming at one of their houses, and I flung a rock into my car's driver side window and it shattered. I needed to drive the home on I80 but wanted some clear plastic on the window if possible. Emily gave me some used plastic from some inventory they had unloaded, and I bought some duct tape. As I went to the car I realized I would need scissors and told her I might be back if I can't get hold of the other daughter and her husband who live close. Daughter didn't answer so as I was about to call a different daughter and her husband Emily appeared and volunteered to help. She was very patient and had some great ideas like where we applied the tape to keep it off the paint. It was a loud ride home but I made it safely and Emily's great work held! This morning I got the window replaced and will not need to borrow or rent a car to drive to Chicago for a ballgame tomorrow. I probably could have made it home fine with no plastic, but it was nice to have, and I wasn't sure how long until I could get the window replaced nor how soon it was supposed to rain. I always say the world needs more kindness, and thank you to Emily for her great customer service from a business perspective, and for what I consider just simple kindness - another KO (Kindness Opportunity) fulfilled. Thanks again to Emily and Lenoch & Cilek Ace!
