Come on guys. I just picked up my bass guitar from a different setup guy that had to fix your setup done 6 mos. ago. Which by the way, had made the a string buzzy and unplayable. Therefore I was out of action with this bass while I had to make alternative arrangements. I am told a phantom employee comes and fetches instruments for repair and setup, then brings them back as a batch. I'm not 100% comfy with that either. Now Michael at the shop has cut incredible deals for me and my friends, especially a Strat player series I bought. However trying 2 identical models in the shop at the time may have disturbed them a bit. I was rushed into picking one of them, IMO. I have a G&L ordered from Reverb that I expect to be a lot better. So IMO this is not a guitar shop to go hang out at or meet your pal for a Saturday of dreamin. But those dreamers every once in a while drop cold cash on quitars and want a space and time to chill and make a musical friend. For minor luthiery and guitar setup, search for Bill Reilly on Craigslist. Also watch for ye olde music in a scene in the Righteous Gemstones season 3! read more

Probably one of the best music store in the state, if not the best. The prices are negotiable if you can find it cheaper anywhere else, you probably can if you look hard enough but they will beat it. The owner will ask you what you're looking for and seems a little brash but just talk with him and tell him what you want or ask question the dude is literally just there to help you and has a lifetime of knowledge that he is willing to give you or help you get what you are looking for no b.s. (this is not Guitar Center he knows his stuff). If that's not for you just tell him you are looking and he will leave you alone and let you look. If you are looking for mid to high end stuff he has it as long as its a Fender or Gibson, that what I play so it's everything I could need. Overall this place is excellent. read more

It seems that it is a small shop, tucked away in Hanahan, off of Remount Road and thus just out of North Charleston, SC. You get inside and you see that it is basically two or three shops in size with all makes and models of guitars on display for sale. Michael, the owner, has had this place since the early 1990s and is there to help to buy a guitar (I bought a Fender Telecaster from here), sell guitar strings (I bought three sets for my guitars---yes, I have three), or to handle a "set up" like that of my newly acquired Fender Stratocaster. The store carries a large selection of musical instruments and accessories, everything from starter instruments to high end professional instruments. He also has the best prices anywhere. Great people ! I've starting going here back when I was I. Band and went back to get my daughter a flute. I picked the cheaper one out of the used instruments he had . I told my daughter if she stuck with it like I did I'd get her a brand new one. 6 years ago I sought out a locally owned music store to buy my Taylor 816. Since then it is the only shop I purchase from in order to not only support small business but also the fact the staff is knowledgeable and kind. I had played the same junk guitar for 25 years and had no idea what I was looking at with different instruments but they were in no way condescending to my lack of experience and I am looking forward to the opportunity to purchase another instrument in the future. This review is for Ye Olde Music Shops REPAIR GUY. I've had no issues with the shop itself, however He is contracted by this shop as well as many others in the area. I called to see if he would work on my amp and he said usually he doesn't work on home audio amps but he would try. He held it for 4 months and every time I would call to check on it, it was a new excuse as to what was going on. After many failed attempts I paid the shop for His time and he said he would bring the amp back to the shop. Well when I went to pick my amp up, it wasn't there. I got another sob story from him and allowed him one more day to get my amp back. I called him and he was being a complete dick to me over the phone, he has terrible customer service. He allowed me to come pick up my amp from his home, but I will never recommend him to anyone. Stay away from this guy. Again, this is about the repair guy, not the shop itself. read more

Best advice and deals on gear in the area. Since the big box store moved in there really aren't even any other options than ye Olde music shop in town, and I am sure glad Mike has kept at it.
