I live in California and was tasked with cleaning out and selling my sister's home in SE Portland…read morewhen she died. It seemed like a monumental task and she had a lot of stuff, including boxes and boxes of papers, old bills, even a warranty for her $60 toothbrush from 10 years ago. Kyle was truly a knight in shining armor who came in and handled everything. We gave him the keys to the house and left it pretty much as she had, with dishes on the shelves in the kitchen and every closet and pantry full. He and his team sorted through eveything, created beautiful displays of her possessions, and recycled all the papers and even some of the older electronics. This is harder to put into words, but Kyle also honored my sister's memory. She was musician. She loved Porland. She loved the Beatles. He displayed her instruments, played Beatles music and had some photos of her around so people could see that this wasn't just "stuff" -- it was the cherished memories of a life well lived. Kyle gave a complete and prompt accounting of the sale and left the house beautifully cleaned, and sent us a lovely letter at the end along with a check. My family and I will forever be grateful for how Kyle and his team made such a difficult process so much easier. Thank you Kyle.

I can't say enough good about how cooperative and helpful they were. According to my friends who bounced by the sale to check up on things, they were every bit as professional and dialed in for sale attendees as they were for us. Estate liquidations usually have bittersweet causes, and our situation was no exception: it really makes a huge difference when the resolution is handled so well. I hope that when my time comes Hidden Treasures is available to deal with my stuff as well, because I have every confidence they will do a great job!

Cynthia Fischborn Estate Sales (located in Oregon) managed my estate sale and the accounting was…read moreinaccurate. This is my story, and I want to share it with you, because I do not want others to be ripped off like I was. Most people who have estate sales are in grief and vulnerable because either their loved one has died, is going into assisted living or is downsizing. They just want someone to take care of their needs to make this shift in their lives more bearable. Cynthia comes across as very capable and professional and is so empathic that you feel she is taking care of you. And she is so smooth and does such a good job cleaning up afterward that you may not even realize what has happened. First of all, the contract that you sign is written in her favor. Items that sell for less than $100 will not be tracked and accounted for. Only items that sell for more than $100 are put on an itemized list. And, most people pay cash at estate sales. This, plus the fact that most items in an estate sale sell for under $100, leads to a lot of misplaced revenue. Also, she asks you not to show up at your own sale. Her reasoning is that it makes the customer nervous knowing that the owner is in the house when they offer a lower price. That is ridiculous. When customers walk in, they have no idea who the owner is. She sets it up this way so that you do not even know what is going on. It is a perfect storm for being taken advantage of. I fortunately took a few measures ahead of time to protect myself. I came to the sale anyway and watched the cashiers. People came in and made purchases over $100, but the cashiers did not list the items. And when I received my totaled list at the end of the sale, those items were still not listed. When I asked Cynthia about it, she denied any wrong-doing, saying that those items were purchased individually, so each sale was less than $100. Since I had taken pictures of everything before, during and after the sale, I knew exactly what merchandise was sold. I also had friends go to the sale, and they each bought items over $100. Those items were also not on the totaled list. What she gave me is a made up list of things over $100 that sold. Some was factual and some was not so it looked legitimate. When I approached Cynthia about the discrepancies, she got flustered and said, "read your contract, I do not have to list items under $100." Then she turned around and ran out of my house. I was shocked by her behavior. She said she makes deals with customers, and that is why I received less money. But when I totaled everything, she would have had to give things away for free for her reasoning to make sense. When I tried calling her after the sale, she would not return my calls and instead had her employee contact me. He admitted that Cynthia was afraid to call me about my issues. He said if this information got out to the public, she might go out of business and he would lose his job. Soon after, I received an email from Cynthia saying that she had suddenly found a bag at her house from my sale with a bunch of cash in it. She said it was buried under some things and had not seen it until now. When she mailed me a check for over $900, I started laughing, because it was obvious she got caught in her lies and she wanted to keep me quiet. Since then, I have totaled everything, and I estimate that I am still owed several thousand dollars. In another covering up of the evidence by Cynthia occurred when, after the sale, I asked to see the "bid" items and the names. People bid on items that are higher priced and leave their names and phone numbers; if they bid the highest, they are called after the sale so that they can buy the items. When I asked to see the bid list, she said she had thrown it out. I also asked to see the credit card receipts of those who bought things on credit. She instead sent me a deposit slip from her bank. It did not state what sale it was from or the individual items that were deposited. She refused to show me the credit card receipts saying it was an invasion of privacy for the customers. When I asked her to make copies of the receipts and white out the account numbers and the names of the people, she refused and stopped talking to me. Cynthia Fischborn did everything she could to hide her thievery from my estate sale. It makes me sick that she is taking advantage of innocent, grieving people in this way. I want to share my story so you can make an informed choice and protect yourself.

Casey didn't just handle the estate sale with professionalism and care -- he truly invested himself in making the process easier for us. He left the house in better shape than when he first arrived, even bringing his own tools and parts to fix a leaking toilet. By the day of the sale, the house was sparkling clean, each item was thoughtfully researched, cleaned, priced, and staged. He even took time to make minor repairs to items to help them sell better. When my stepmom realized she had forgotten to pack some important items for her move to Texas, he helped us get them shipped to her. He even assisted with selling two of my dad's trucks, which were outside the scope of the estate sale, making numerous trips from his home near Sandy, OR to Vancouver, WA without ever making it feel like a burden. What stood out most was his generosity and kindness. He always had time for our questions, treated our Dad's belongings with respect, and even had candy on hand for my kids when they were with us. It was clear throughout the process that Casey is not only highly knowledgeable and dependable, but also a genuinely honorable businessman who cares deeply about the people he serves. If you are looking for someone you can completely trust to handle an estate sale with integrity, compassion, and extraordinary effort, Casey at Mountain View Estate Sales LLC is the one you want. -- Alysha B.
