(Will you?) There is a literal pump at this park, with a sign that tells you the history of the pump. It's not functional anymore, but it used to be set up as a place for families to get water who didn't have their own well, and for firefighters to do their thing. Now, of course, the town of Nashville has its own water system, and no one needs a water pump. But it's a fun relic. Old Pumphouse Park is pretty much in the center of downtown Nashville, right outside the public restrooms. How I enjoyed the park is: I sat by the pump, which sits under a gazebo by some beautiful hydrangea, and ate some chocolates that I bought down the street. This is a nice park to visit for a bit and sit at for a while, as you're making your way around downtown Nashville.

Sure, I know they have huge state parks in the area and the kids have playgrounds at the school, but they were missing the charm of having a quiet place, slightly away from the crowded streets of the town. So, when my day of shopping/eating/browsing was winding down, I finally noticed this park. Just a block away from the main drag through town, I was able to sit on one of the benches and appreciate the nice landscaping. The public restrooms are there too, so it makes sense to have a place for others to rest if someone in the group needs to use the facilities. Seems like there has been a pocket park here for quite awhile, but what I finally noticed was the mini shelter that covered an old water pump, the kind used to fetch water out of a well. There is a plaque about the ceremonial "burying" of the old pump back in 1949 when the town finally got on a public water system furnished from a lake in the state park. What makes this quirky is that an actual hearse was used to haul the pump to its final resting place after 60 years of service. There is even a photo of the horse drawn hearse posted in the mini shelter. What a strange bit of local flavor. Regardless of whether you enjoy reading these little bits of local lore, the park was well maintained and provided a nice place to take a break. Review #2779

The campgrounds are excellent, especially Taylor Ridge. But be aware that you need to make reservations ahead of time, especially if you are planning a fall camping trip. Campsites sell out early. Shower rooms are decent, not wonderful. But satisfactory for a campground. Quiet hours are strictly observed, and the park rangers will pay a visit to your campsite if you aren't quiet after 10:00 pm Once we received a visit from a friendly park ranger when we were playing cards around 11 pm. We hadn't realized that we were being noisy at all but the ranger advised us that sound carries throughout the campground. Hiking trails range from easy to moderate. Trail maps are available are the trails are well marked. You will likely see deer and raccoons when hiking the trails. Some members of our group enjoy mountain biking too.

Monkey bars, balancing beams, swings, teeter totters, a climbing rock and much, much more. One of the neat things about this park is that it is built so that it's accessible for everyone. There are lots of ramps, so people in wheelchairs have an easy time enjoying the playground, too. There is a huge field here, which would be perfect for running around or flying a kite. There is also one short basketball hoop. Freedom Field Park is attached to an elementary school, so the playground is open to the public every day EXCEPT Monday through Friday from 10:30 to 1:30 when school is in session. Every other time, you can play 'til your heart's content.

The "parking" area can fit 5-7 cars so it's tight. The map of the area wasn't clear so we went down in the canyon area via the steep stairs. It's a rocky walk and you have to watch your step. We weren't sure if it looped around so we turned around and went back up the steep stairs which winded us both. I think it's easier if you follow the path straight and it gradually winds you down to the "canyon" floor so I would recommend that.

When I stopped on Friday morning to walk the dog, I was shocked to see the parking lot (which holds 60+ cars) almost full. They have 8 pickle-ball courts and they were full with a line of people waiting for a court The pangs of the balls were pretty loud and disrupted any peacefulness that the park has to offer. There is even a set of bleachers to watch the pickle-ball games. Anyway, the park does have an amazing playscape, perhaps the best in the Indy area. There are multiple climbing structures, swings for all abilities, a merry go round type structure and more. There is soft matting under the structures to keep the kids safe. Kids were having a blast. In addition, there is a colorful and awesome splash pad. There are nice benches, some covered, to sit and watch the kids. The park also has a walking trail into a wooded area, which is not paved, just gravel. There is some natural prairie vegetation. Trees have been recently planted. There are a nice set of restrooms including a family restroom. I also saw a small pavilion with picnic tables. Bottom line, while it's a bit crowded and loud, this is a great park with lots of fun things to do.

There is a decent amount of parking available but this park does get packed. The park features 8 very nice, fenced in, pickleball courts, a large playground, an active splash pad. The park also have two shelters with picnic tables under them and some benches under small shelter-like structures that provides some relief from the blazing sun. The splash pad has a lot going on. There are sprinklers, pouring buckets, sprayers, waterfalls and lots more. It is very nice and open from 9am to 8pm. The playground is modern and is Divided into zones for children aged 2 to 5 and 5 to 12. It is laid on a combination of artificial turf and rubberized, mud-free, surfacing. The playground features a swing bank with traditional and ADA swings, a net cone merry go round, a slide on artificial turf covered hills and a small jungle gym structure with a couple of slides and bridges. The highlight of the playground though is the towering jungle gym with a bunch of tall slides, ropes, and bridges. It is one of the first things that you will see when you arrive at the park. Additional amenities at the park include a water fountain that is capable of filling bottles, a restroom facility and a patch of green space to play catch or just throw a blanket down and relax, hiking trails that lead to and from downtown Bargersville. It is a small, but very well designed park. I will admit, that it does get packed during nice weather, no school days, especially on weekends. I really like this park. Bargersville has began to invest in parks, which is nice. This is definitely a must visit while in the Center Grove/Bargersville area.

They have a full size pool with a water slide, a splash pad and a good size facilities building to accommodate their water park. Both parks are very similar in that respect. This park might have better shelters depending on your point of view but definitely a couple more with a total of nine. Most are fully enclosed and most have fireplaces. Most have some sort of playground equipment at each shelter location. These shelters can be more accomdodating in inclement weather or during colder weather. But enclosed ones have ways to open them up for summer weather such as one or more garage doors. Parking is plentiful at most shelters and all have access to a paved road. There are trails for hiking, a large fishing pond and a dedicated playground with a huge spaceship structure at its core. A dog park is available. My only complaint is there is no sign that I saw directing you to the restrooms. The obvious boy & girl restrooms at the rear dog park were locked.

Google 'Trevlac Bluffs Nature Preserve' on the Sycamore Land Trust Site, for two maps so hard to read they scare people away. Prepare to be alone. Not crowded, except when morels poke out.

You will find this park just southwest of Greenfield Central Jr. High School and just off the Greenfield Baseball Park. There is more than ample parking available, but it could become tight during a baseball tournament though. One thing to keep in mind is that this is purely a playground. There is no green space, there are no trails, nor are there any tennis courts or basketball courts. I also did not see any restroom facilities, but that does not mean that they are not there. They have a decent sized picnic shelter with picnic tables under it. It is very nice. The play area has the rubbery mud free surface that is being used on most new playgrounds. The equipment is first class. There is a huge jungle gym with slides and a climbing net. There is a bank of swings with expression and traditional swings. You will also find congos, a saucer swing, a new age merry go round, and a sit and spin. Some of the equipment, including the jungle gym has a built-in shade and I love that they have placed benches around the play area where parents can sit and watch their littles. This inclusive playground features safety swings for children of all abilities, wheelchair ramps, and sensory stimulation such as musical instruments and roller-bar slides. It is first class and is in excellent shape. It still has that new car smell, so to speak. It is relatively small but has enough equipment to keep the littles entertained for s bit. This is a nice play option for those looking for a play space in Greenfield. I really like this playground and its inclusive theme. Many children with disabilities are left out of the planning of play spaces, but this one was actually designed with them in mind. I recommend checking this place out.

Given that half of the go-kart attractions were now unavailable, I approached the sales desk and spoke to a young manager named Keira. I asked if we could receive a rain check to come back on a better day. She pointed to a notice on the wall and informed me, "It's our policy. The fine print states that we do not offer rain checks or refunds due to weather." I expressed my disappointment, as I feel it's unrealistic and unscrupulous to expect most customers to read fine print on the wall before purchasing tickets. In my opinion, businesses like this should consider more customer-friendly policies, especially when a significant portion of their attractions are uncovered and entirely dependent on the weather. While others may have their own opinions, I personally won't support a business that lacks flexible policies for paying customers when their offerings are so easily affected by conditions beyond anyone's control.

If you want to really appreciate the natural beauty and diversity of Indiana, take a hike through…read moreBeanblossom Bottom Nature Preserve. It will take your breath away, especially if you visit in the spring, summer and fall, when things are blooming. This is a wetland preserve, so there are swamps all around. You'll see wildlife that like to call swampy, marshy land their home, like frogs and dragonflies, and you might even see a snake, although we didn't on our visit. You'll also see lots of beautiful greenery, trees and flowers. This is one of the most unique nature preserves I've visited in Indiana, because the hiking trail starts off on dirt, but then it turns into a raised, plastic boardwalk. Because the boardwalk is plastic, it can be slippery after a rain, so just be aware. On the boardwalk, you're literally walking right over and through the swamp, so you can get an up-close view of everything. The hiking trail is about 2.5 miles, but it felt shorter. This nature preserve seems to be popular with birders, because we saw several during our hike. When I did some research, I found out that Beanblossom Bottom Nature Preserve has been designated a state Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. So that explains why we saw so many birders! Speaking of birds, we saw a Great Egret swoop down in front of our path and into the swampy water. They're so big! It was like seeing a dinosaur. This nature preserve was closed for a while because a tornado went through it and damaged a lot of the trail. But a renovation was completed in spring 2019, and the trail loop has been completely restored. Parking is at a premium at Beanblossom Bottom Nature Preserve. There are exactly eight parking spaces in the parking lot, but you can also park along the side of the road if the parking lot is full. There are no restrooms or other services, so plan accordingly.

Touch the Earth Natural Area

If you like hiking in natural settings where you can get a fair amount of distance (around 2 miles…read moreper loop) and without much elevation change (about 60 feet), this may become a new favorite park for you. As part of the Sycamore Land Trust, the properties here total 98 acres and were acquired in 1995 & 1998, so just over 20 years of naturally converting from farm land. There are wooded areas and prairies. There is a small lake hidden from view on the trail but just at the beginning of the Shawnee Trail loop. On the east side of the Shawnee Trail is a small observation deck that lets you overlook a prairie. Not a much better view, but it does held see over some of the grasses that obstruct your view. I will mention that if you are going here, wear clothing that you won't mind getting muddy. Also, be aware that the natural trails are mowed without any gravel or grit for traction, so even if it hasn't rained recently, the trail does hold some moisture which can make it slippery and muddy. I was surprised a couple times with all the fallen leaves and if not for a bit of luck, I may have slipped to the ground. There is a map of the trail paths at the parking lot. I suggest taking a photo with your phone so that you can check progress. The basic layout is the Lenape Trail heads east from the parking lot. If you take the short cut, the trail is only 0.7 miles long through a lightly wooded area. If you push on to the eastern edge of the trail, you add another 0.6 miles and will get more elevation change and pass through some areas where wooden bridges cross over the creek several times. If you want to explore some area where the observation deck and more meadows are visible, take the path that leads to the Shawnee Trail to the north. After following a 0.1 mile path to the north, you can work your way around the loop which is another 0.5 miles. Note that there are random placements of benches along the trails. No restroom facilities exist. The parking lot is gravel and is located about a half mile south of SR 46. I look forward to returning in the spring/summer months when the wildlife is more active and the fields are more colorful. Review #2061

I found so many mushrooms, insects, and other animal/plants species. - lots of terrain changes. Mostly surrounded by woods, but it meanders around a creek bed and hilltops as well. - the gravel drive and surrounding houses are to die for. *quickly checks Zillow listings* Let's keep this preserve a hidden gem and keep it clean as we found it!

Dilcher-Turner Canyon Forest

While exploring Greene County, I saw that there was a moderate 1.6 mile hiking path inside the…read moreDilcher-Turner Canyon Forest. So, I crossed the railroad tracks (heading west) and pulled into the small lot at the south entrance. There is the usual wipe your feet before you enter and the sign in to let someone know the park is getting used. The park is a bit on the primitive side: no restrooms, natural trails, and only a few benches. There aren't actual trail markers, but during the right conditions, it seemed the painting of white patches on trees to help the hiker orient on the paths seemed to work. I could see this being a necessity after the leaves have fallen and covered up the dirt path. Note that there were several dry creeks that I crossed along the way, but because of the 60' elevation change, I could see the need to cross over water or at least muddy ground after a rain storm. The trail does have a short cut for those not wishing to hike the entire distance. After walking up a mild incline for .2 miles, there is a split in the path with a laminated map showing you where you are and the distances around the paths. I recommend snapping a photo of this since there is only one other map posted on the trails. The outer trail to the left (West) is the one with the best views of the canyon. Deep greens and rocky descents are seen and there is a bench to relax and just listen. No immediate access is available here to the canyon floor. However, the trails do gradually reach the lower portion of the canyon to the east, though never quite reaching the bottom, and certainly not near the viewing area on the west end. Along the way, there are a lot more rock outcroppings that have shallow caves. While observing a squirrel who had run into a fallen log, a deer ran by me within 30 yards to the crest of the hill, and then back to where it came from as I followed the path upward. Note: I wouldn't recommend going off trail here unless you have some high tech equipment or are just a bit crazy. The white trail patches are small and are only painted on the side that you can see them from the trail. If you wander off, you will need a lot of luck to find the markers again. If you are unsure, just stop and look to see the next marker before proceeding. They are there....just use patience. Overall, it was an enjoyable hike. I made good time on my trip, including stops to take photos, taking about 45 minutes. Review #1587

They offer camping at a great price of $10/person per night, no electricity sites but they have shower and bath house. Check em out!!

The Salt Creek Trail is a hidden gem in Nashville, Indiana. It starts behind the Brown County…read moreCommunity YMCA, and goes for 3/4 of a mile to the CVS parking lot. Along the way, you'll see beautiful things, like creeks, wildflowers, a storybook trail, a playground near the YMCA, picnic benches and lots and lots of trees. At the end of the trail (or the beginning, if you started at the end), you'll see a bridge with a big, colorful mural painted on it called Nature Inspires, created by an artist named Kurt Eagleman. (Read my review about Nature Inspires for more info about that.) The trail is paved and wide and smooth, so it's great for wheelchairs and strollers. It's also nice for walkers, like me. Apparently, this is the first paved trail in all of Brown County! This is an easy trail, and I was at the end before I knew it. I had forgotten my headphones, so instead of listening to music like I usually do when I walk, I recited poetry and sang some songs aloud. I did have a bad experience with Billy, I kindly asked for directions and he ignored me. Other visitors of Ceraland wouldn't want to be ignored when simply asking for directions if its their first time visiting.
