We have horror stories that I won't go into, but Uptown has changed all that. We NEVER worry that the nurse aid will be a no-show, even during the storm. Our primary caregiver, Amy had arranged to stay and the owner brought her supplies!!! Bruce is so involved with every aspect of this company. Same goes for the RN nursing director that is involved with every part of my mothers care even though we only have nurse aid care at this time. Kathy is wonderful and I think she said she's been the director for 21 years of the 30 year company. So here's my advice learned from past mistakes we've made. If the company is a franchise homecare business and if not run by an RN, DON'T hire them. They don't have the investment in your family that this company has and staff will leave before the next person shows up without letting you know??..it happened to many time to count! I heard about Uptown from a nurse while my mom was in the hospital. She had a PULSE STAFFING badge and when I asked, she said she was a contract RN. She was my favorite and she told me about Uptown which is the same company as PULSE. I'm very grateful! I've been wanting to write this for months, so hope it helps someone avoid the issues that are so hard to deal with on top of having a loved one that needs care. We got regular updates when we weren't there and the nurses were prepared and understanding and kept my dad comfortable during his last days. I would definitely recommend their services if you need them. They explained things clearly and we always felt confident that they were giving him the best care. (I was aware that due to my father's fractured hip at the age of 89 that he only had a 17% to 33% chance of living.) He continued to stay at Baywind but was taken care of by Village Home Health and Hospice. The entire staff is professional, knowledgeable, curtious, compassionate, and extremely kind-hearted. They were incredible in the last 5 days of my father's life. They took exceptional care of him and let him pass away with the utmost respect and dignity. I stayed with my father every day for 12 to 14 hours a day. I always discussed with Rose what I saw my father going through each day so his medications could be adjusted accordingly. I personally want to thank Rose for always being upfront and honest with me regarding the status of my father's failing health in his last days. I always wanted the truth, and I respect Rose very much for never sugar coating it. On the last day, I knew my father only had a few hours left, so I went home to be with my brother's. I knew my father would not pass away in front of his only daughter. So, I allowed him to pass away on his own terms and when he was ready. Loosing my father, who was my best friend, is the absolute hardest thing I will ever have to endure in my life, but knowing that he was cared for by the very best gives me peace of mind. Yelp keeps trying to remove my review of this business. My mother in law has full on set dementia and cannot speak for herself. If they keep removing this, I'll have her POA, my husband write the review. I suspect the owners have reported my review for the second time. Instead of responding and apologizing, they are trying to hide what their negligence. That's really pathetic. They were contacted by us and never responded so I started writing reviews. How they can say that this company didn't affect me is simply not true. Their lies, and not caring properly for my MIL made it so we had to endure a lot of heartache. I'm writing it again. I'd give this company zero stars if I could. Stay away from this agency. My husband has POA of his mother. His brother moved in after their father died, and my husband and I noticed his mother deteriorating more and more. We made the move to get her away from his brother. His brother threatened my husband and me if he tried to move their mom into a facility specializing in dementia care. My husband was named POA, and also has durable POA, medical POA etc. The brother used cursing, intimidation, and threats against my husband and me . The brother refused to get in home 24 hour care, or a house cleaner after many requests from my husband. She was being over medicated and had body odor. After my husband's brother threatened to hit him if he showed up, an attorney advised him to get a police escort to get his mom. My husband and I showed up with an Alvin police officer and there was a home health care worker from this company there. She told us that we were not taking his mother anywhere! Yes, this is while the police woman was standing there. My husband told her this didn't concern her. She called her boss to see if it was ok. Unbelievable. 3 days after rescuing my mother in law, she became very ill and was taken by ambulance to the medical center where she was diagnosed with impacted bowels and a terrible UTI. She was septic and almost died. She was in the hospital a week. Under the wonderful care at Autumn Grove, she flourished and celebrated her 95th birthday there. The brother was upset because he saw his inheritance dwindling as she got healthier and stronger and he saw "his" money being spent on her care. Once my husband and I got back in the house, the filth and odor were deplorable. There was feces on her carpet in her bedroom. The bathrooms were covered in black mold and mildew and the dust and spider webs were thick throughout the home. We all had to wear masks to enter the house. Later, my husband and I were accused of exploiting his mom by APS. We knew immediately his brother did it. It was accusations regarding money. When the case worker was interviewing us she said she called House Calls and they told her the home was in good condition. So, they lied to APS, probably to cover themselves. We took extensive videos of the condition of the home which showed the incredible filth, feces, mold, mildew etc...We were found to be innocent of exploitation, of course, because the brother lied to them about everything. Do NOT trust this company. They are bad. My mother-in-law almost died under their care, and they are liars.

I then flew to Houston and toured the place and the facility was very clean and the staff was very friendly. TJ, the manager (is a gem) has been so nice to work with, extremely helpful and gives me updates on my father (I am in a different state). Every time I talk to my father he tells me that everyone is very helpful and very nice to him! I was given the name of Good Living Community Care by a placement company (sorry can't remember who but she was great too!) After 2 full months here at GLCC Mom has not been sick ONCE! The other $8500/mo. nursing home she was in the emergency room 3 times. Mom is happy and healthy and lucid finally. the Manager, Monica, is a real gem and God send. Everyone at this very personal care facility is helpful, accommodating to the point of unbelievable and just as sweet as can be. Wanni, the Asst Mgr, (def not spelled right) is absolutely fabulous, keeps Mom company, interacts a lot with her and makes her laugh. SO GOOD TO SEE! They even have a wonderful stylist who comes to make Mom feel beautiful, Iris Giron, washing, cutting her hair and doing Moms nails and she's very affordable. Speaking of which for all this personal care I pay less than 1/2 of what I was paying at the nursing home. Maritime Pharmacy, takes care of all Moms meds, they have a RN visit as needed and a physical therapist 2x's a week. I could go on and on about how wonderful this place is!

The physical therapists, Miss Elizabeth and Albert, were outstanding. They gave our mom the encouragement and support she needed to regain strength and independence. The CNA's were helpful, busy, quick to respond, and easy to talk to. The OT and PT's were friendly, experienced, encouraging and skilled. The kitchen staff served hot, tasty balanced meals and would ask me what I would prefer. I felt more at ease and cared for at this facility than I did at the more expensive and higher rated one I had the previous year. It may be a little bit dated, but it is clean and the employees more than make up for any lack in newness. I especially appreciated how well the employees worked together without complaints, arguments, or gossiping in front of residents.
