My wife and I vacationed here for our honeymoon, and we were absolutely thrilled with The Ryelands. Lyn is personable and very professional. She exudes a genuine concern and care for her guests. The rooms are fantastically comfortable, and extremely well situated within walking distance of "downtown" Grasmere. Our room, the Silver Howe, has a lovely view with an ever so faint glimpse of Grasmere Lake. The "negative" aspects of this property are actually what makes it wonderful as well. The flat screen television is VERY small with a limited channel selection, and is not easily visible while lying down on the bed (it should be mounted on the wall for better viewing). This is actually a positive, since one shouldn't expect to spend much time in the room, and time would be better spent reading Wordsworth than watching a rerun of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" The staircase leading up to the bedrooms is moderately steep and narrow--a daunting gauntlet for large suitcases or obese rear ends. And don't expect to wheel a suitcase or anything up the gravel driveway to the property. It makes a lovely crunching sound as you walk, but it's impossible to drag anything with wheels smaller than a moving dolly or hand truck. Still, the property is utterly gorgeous. The owners/operators are personable, helpful and inviting. Their breakfasts are delicious. The towels are surprisingly soft, and smell of soothing lavender. It's easy to get "caught up" in the romantic feel of Grasmere from The Ryelands. I HIGHLY recommend The Ryelands over ANY other property in Grasmere, including the famous Wordsworth Hotel. I would award The Ryelands a 5-star rating if: 1. The flat screen television was wall-mounted and maybe connected to a simple DVD player. It's a seemingly silly request, but it's what I would expect from a 5-star establishment. 2. Breakfast service ends slightly too early (around 9 or 10 AM). I would expect a 5-star establishment to provide a simple, continental breakfast option for guests who choose to dine after those hours. 3. The downstairs office uses a secured wireless internet connection, but no access is provided for guests. I would expect a 5-star establishment to provide or charge for in-room internet access. With the relatively low cost of wireless-N routers, I do not believe this to be an unreasonable request.

First things first…read more Like, first review on Yelp of the Old School House B&B. Damn shame. The young married couple running OSHBB are clearly a couple of people whose company *I* want to be in. The town of Patterdale is but a small berg on the famed Coast to Coast hike I was on and is probably best known for a couple of large hotels up the road where tourists park their cars and spend their time around no one really special to chat with. The Old School folks will have none of that. They're instantly likable, genuine and interesting people. The facility is small, cozy and at least for my room it was quite small but you have to remember, I came here by myself, wanted a quiet room and a cozy bed, a great breakfast to power me up and over the lengthy hills for 6-8 hours at a time. Did they deliver? And how. Their traditional English breakfast was hands down one of the top 2-3 of my trip. Look, if you're wanting a massive suite for a romantic weekend getaway this might not be the place. If you're on the C2C hike which brings over 10,000+ (estimated) to this little village each summer and you need a place to stay, this is hard to beat for what they offer for the price. You have to realize that without this hike coming through here most of these small towns couldn't have B&Bs like this. Need a pint and a meal? The village pub White Lion is just down the road a few hundred yards. Easy enough to stumble back dead tired and retreat to your room. Probably the most memorable conversation at a B&B with the owners I had in the 7 nights I was on the trail. Let me shout it from the highest fells and prettiest becks, OSHBB is a fine stop for a weary traveler. Just like Yelp says, they're as good as it gets in this little village.

This was one of the most delightful accommodation I had for my entire trip. Yvette and Norman were very welcoming. I was practically made to feel not like a paying guest, but rather as part of their family. Rooms are very reasonably priced, very clean and tidy. Breakfast is included, and includes an assortment of cereal, various fruit, juice, a full English breakfast, with eggs done any way you prefer. Yvette is a chef by training, and this shows with the quality of the cooked food. They have 2 adorable cocker spaniels. When first entering, they will bark. But once you're in, they're the most gentle, loving dogs one can imagine. Their favorite pastime appears to be having a had placed on them for petting. The location of the B&B is perfect. Only a few blocks away from the center of town and the train station, it is located on a quiet side street. There is actually a fair amount to do in Carlisle, most notably the Cathedral, Castle, and the Tullie House Museum, all located within a short walk of Langleigh House. Carlisle also has a nice assortment of good restaurants. I am looking forward to my next visit here.

From the moment we arrived my friend and I were made to feel so welcome. The interior of the Guest House has been kept in the style of Beatrix Potter though bedrooms all have TV; Tea/coffee making and ensuite facilities in them. Beds are very comfortable and everywhere is kept very clean. The location of the Guest House is very close to various Beatrix Potter attractions and Robert and Helen Kirby gave us some wonderful tips for visiting them. Robert also gave us information regarding catching the ferry across Lake Windermere and both he and Helen provided that extra special attention, which made us feel as though time could stand still and every moment could be savoured away from the busy-ness of normal life. Our twin bedded room was excellent value for the service we received and I would encourage anyone visiting to Cumbria to pay them a visit.

Like most of the B&B's in the lakes the Lincoln is well kept, decorated & run. Our room No7 had a…read moreperfect view of Latrigg, skiddaw & Dodd, although a lot of the time it was obscured by low clouds but that's the lake district for you. Our bathroom wasn't en-suit but was just a few steps away from the room & was a large spacious room, a bath robe was provided to wear should you get short in the night. My only criticism of this facility was no shower gel/conditioner was provided but a nice pink hand soap was. Full Breakfast was nice & served on burn your hand plates, together with cereal, orange juice & all the toast you could eat. Parking is provided at the front & is just 2 mins from the town centre. Mike & Joan where perfect hosts as where the other staff we came into contact with in this warm & cosy establishment. Price is the same as all the others in street. I would use this place again.
