A mill, and annexe, in a steep ravine running down to the sea, close to Robin Hood's Bay The Youth Hostel (YHA) at Boggle Hole nestles in a ravine with a dramatic entrance from the beach from which Robin Hoods Bay can be seen in the distance. This youth hostel is in a quiet setting on a secluded bay a 20-minute walk along the beach from Robin Hoods Bay. It consists of two buildings and features a kitchen and a quiet lounge. Most dorms have four beds but there are a couple of larger rooms. A former corn millwith the beach on the doorstep. Once refuge for shipwrecked mariners. Has great charm. Group accommodation, study rooms, ideal for family holidays. Adult: £11.95 Under 18: £8.95 It's clean, it's a friendly atmosphere like all rural YHA's seem to have, and a location that's well worth the walk. 3 star Hostel rating. Accommodation is in 2-6+ bedded rooms and facilities include TV, kitchen and evening meals. Food is prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients, sourced locally where available, prepared and cooked to order. Flexible meal times to fit in with your itinerary and with prior notice, they are happy to cater for any special dietary requests. The bay in front of YHA Boggle Hole was once a notorious smugglers haunt. Nowadays all ages love beachcombing, searching for fossils and rockpool life on its shore.

Set in a secluded bay, it is reached by a short walk along the beach or the cliff-top path. The bay is a fabulous place for children to play, although young children should probably be under supervision. Accommodation is either in the main building or in a separate building up some steep steps. The rooms were nice and comfortable, the showers and toilet facilities were kept clean and tidy. You can either cater for yourself in the self-catering kitchen, whichis stocked with a wide array of pots and pans, crockery and cutlery, or you can eat the delicious meals prepared by the hostel's kitchen staff and eat in the friendly communal dining room. The food is good and not too pricey at all. There's a lot to do in the area. The nearby Robin Hood's bay is famous as the site of smuggling and its narrow cobbled streets are enchanting when not packed with tourists. Or you could hire a bike from the hostel and head off on the coastal cycle route to Whitby or Scarborough.

A kitchen with milk in the fridge for our tea. A bedroom with a view of the rooftops. Not even 5 mins walk to the Minster and every shopping delight York has to offer. You would think it would be noisy, we were up 3 flights of stairs (which was tough) but no, only pigeons cooing outside. We dropped our bags with Bobby in the bar next door at 9.30 am (they are part of same company). Rebecca, part of the Fort Team was just arriving and assured us everything was under control. When we checked in at 2.00pm they had kindly taken our bags up to the room for us. This was a great experience all round, service, price, location, noislessness and one we would repeat.

Hostel? More like our own lovely pied à terre in town…read more This place was brilliant - we were a bit nervous about staying in a hostel but I'd go back in a second. Six of us booked the superior six bed dorm, so we had it to ourselves. A lovely living room with big sofa and TV, a table, a big and well-supplied kitchen, shower room, loo... Really, it was great. The bedroom *is* a bit of a tight squeeze, with three sets of bunk beds, but it was fine. It was perfect because we had it to ourselves, but would be fine to share too. Right in the middle of town, it's above (and related to) Kennedy's bar, but still quiet. Checking in in the pub at 9pm on a Friday night was a bit odd but the manager, Matt, is fantastic and made us feel welcome right from the start. You get 20% off food in the bar, and the breakfasts are great. So - fab. I might just go back and move in.
