I would just say to proceed with caution. The price is fair based on other CPA firms, but you need to know that the service will be a challenge. I experienced poor communication, major delays in timing expectations, and less than competent tax preparation. I'm a business owner/CPA and when I worked with SK I joked that you needed to be a CPA in order to work with them. I caught many mistakes (even basic ones) that prevented headaches down the line had I not caught them before final filing with the tax authorities. I would have left one star, but I believe they mean well, there's just seems to be an inability to execute. They recognized my poor service experience, but then weren't able to improve it (even after the associate we were working with left). Again, engage with caution.

Here is how that went: In January, we had a tax planning meeting (seems a little late, but whatever). Their estimate of the income we would report for 2023 was off by 300%. That's 300% off what the same firm calculated two months later when they actually did the taxes. No new numbers came in, everything was available in mid January when they came up with the estimate. When they filed tax returns in April for our firm, they overstated our income on our state returns, apportioning 100% to each state we do business in, instead of proportional amounts. We overpaid our taxes by $100k, and only caught the mistake because *we* found it and pointed it out to them. It took MM over 48 hours to confirm the mistake that we pointed out to them. They then filed amended returns. We will eventually get that money back, but only because of our own diligence. Also...never so much as an apology or taking accountability for the massive mistake. I have another firm redoing our tax filings, to make sure no other mistakes were made. Expensive lesson.

Since now I'm working it was my turn and I wasn't disappointed! Got my tax return in 3 weeks and since I had to amend after 2 weeks, Daisy happily did the amend with ease. I didn't have to wait and Leslie took care of me once I walked in. They are absolutely fantastic! The office may be a little shabby-chic and outdated but who cares, as long as they do a terrific job since they're dealing with the federal government, I could care less. Her rates are also fair and Daisy is really an accountant I can rely on. She actually gave me a great discount and the price was way below what I thought I would pay. They advised it would be $55 for 15 mins. They stuck to exactly what they promised. In addition, I had quite a few follow-up questions and some adjustments had to be made after my initial virtual meeting. They didn't inconvenience me by making me meet again, Madina got things taken care of and only called me to advise that my questions were resolved. She offered to meet again for free if I wanted to speak to the CPA again. I was not ever charged for additional work or time to re-review the questions I had. They fixed every single concern/issue. This was weird because over the phone the appointment was said to be made with the CPA herself. So just be sure when you make an appointment that you know who it's with and what will occur. The assistant after looking at all my tax papers gave me a quote for $350- 375, then a quote for $450- 475, then a quote for $550- 575, then was told that I would you would need to charge by the hour to look at one thing. I'm a small business owner, and they advertise specializing in small bushiness, so I'm not really understanding that why I would need to pay her to research something like that. For each increase in price I was told that it was because she didn't notice that my taxes would require "additional work" in certain areas. She gave me the first quote after looking at all of my papers and no new information was provided the first quote to the then open ended quote of apparently I'm guessing $550 + hourly, but we don't know how many hours? Not a great way to run a business in my opinion. I liked the CPA but when it comes down to it they're going to have to run their business like a business- they can't increase the price 4 times during a meeting. They should be able to read the forms, ask some questions, give an estimate. (Edit: I don't have a ton of "issues" as the buisness owner below says, I'm just a small business owner. In fact the first increase was because "they didn't know they needed a schedule c" even I know that and I wasn't pressuring them for a quick estimate, I was happy to answer any questions). Also, the office setting is not professional. It has a really bare bones feeling. We met in the lobby (I would a private setting) and sofa was super uncomfortable, painfully so. They say that people can come in and DIY taxes with someone helping to answer questions but the little cubicles were totally empty while I was in the office- probably because this DIY area had absolutely nothing to offer- they didn't even have coffee! How can someone focus on taxes without coffee!!? (Edit: yes I brought the end of my coffee at first but did need more and didn't know they had any- I couldn't see it, I did look for it).
