There were two seating areas: The tables inside were cozy but the terrace was delightful. The nice server promptly took the orders: As we were a group of six, we ordered several dishes so we could try a little bit of everything and of course, the famous Wiener Schnitzel with mixed salad by which every restaurant in Austria is measured. Generally speaking, if that dish fails , usually it is a bad sign. But here everything was fresh, flavorful and served generously. The " Wiener "  like they called it here was crispy on the outside with a wonderful breading and the veal was tender and tasty. I discovered the scrambled eggs with wild mushrooms and I could see myself eating it for breakfast too. The dumplings were huge but the flavor wasn't lost . The fish was well cooked . The deserts were as good as the main dishes and I can't recommend enough the palatshinken(crêpes) and the topfentorte( Austrian cheese cake). In summary, maybe one of the best gasthaus in Vienna (typical Viennese restaurant) serving authentic Austrian cuisine at a great price!

But here, it felt like I was at my Austrian auntie's house and I was about to get in trouble for putting my fork down too hard. Both the patrons and the employees have always been exceptionally nice to me each and every time I have visited. I have never eaten there, but the beer has always been great. This pub reminds me of a long-gone pub I used to visit in the 1980's when I was in college. That pub was the Kesslersville Hotel, also known as "Jack's." It was north of Easton, PA in the USA. In both these places there were always nice people that would engage you in spirited conversation. Always friendly, never a problem, and whenever you walked out you were always glad you had visited. The Cafe Lange is one of my favorite places on earth. Just as I lament over the long-gone Jack's, so too am I saddened that I do not live in Vienna so I could return with regularity to this beautiful little pub in the world's best neighborhood (Josefstadt).
