Landstrasser: this came with a variety of things: different breads, one of them was a lavender rye bread really delicious apricot jam honey butter soft boiled egg rye "soldiers" to dip in the egg cottage cheese with the most delicious olive oil and pesto carrot/radish/cucumbers to dip in the cottage cheese homemade potato chips Prince Harry: A mini pastrami sandwich on a kaiser roll steak tartare a savory french toast with green beans marinated tomatoes EVERYTHING WAS GREAT. My favorite was the apricot jam spread on anything, but truly all the ingredients were spectacular and prepared with great care. The boyfriend kept raving about the pastrami for hours after our meal. And it was incredible. I've never tasted anything quite like it in a really good way. The meat was nicely spiced and had a very smoky taste. We're only in Vienna for a few days, but I think we'll stop for another visit! EDIT: We definitely did stop in for another visit and it was equally delicious as the first. I tried a green smoothie this time, which was fantastic. Also, the croque madame sandwich. The croissant was perfection and it was really filling, but not overly heavy. A perfect meal in Vienna!

I like the bread's thick crust and soft interior. It is good with butter, jam, or even just plain. I have tried a few pastries here (poppyseed pastry, cheese Danish) and they are good, but I still prefer their breads over their pastries. Pastries are easier to eat without a bread knife though!

I ordered my usual Kaiserschmarrn and a drink. I had noticed that the table next to me had a drink that looked good, so when the waitress took my order, I specifically told her that I wanted the same drink the table next to me was having. When my order arrived, it was brought by a different waitress. The drink looked completely different from what I had pointed to, so I asked her what it was. She told me it was a double espresso. I explained that I had not ordered a double espresso and again pointed to the drink at the table next to me, which was clearly a hot chocolate. The waitress then called over the waitress who had originally taken my order. Instead of simply acknowledging that there had been a misunderstanding, she insisted, "That's what you ordered." When I explained again that it wasn't, she told me, "It's the same thing." A **double espresso and a hot chocolate are obviously not the same thing.** What bothered me even more than the incorrect order was the way both waitresses spoke to me. Their attitudes and tone were extremely rude, dismissive, and demeaning--as though I was stupid for pointing out the obvious mistake. The interaction became uncomfortable enough that people sitting at other tables were looking over at us. To make matters worse, my Kaiserschmarrn was **cold**. It tasted as though it had already been sitting out for some time before it was brought to my table. I understand that mistakes happen. Had they simply apologized for the misunderstanding and corrected the drink, I would not have had an issue. Instead, I was argued with and spoken down to over something that could have been resolved in seconds. This was genuinely one of the worst customer-service experiences I have ever had at a restaurant, and certainly not what I expected from an establishment with Demel's reputation. After several previous visits that I enjoyed, it is extremely disappointing to say that I will not return and will no longer recommend Demel to my friends.

Basically, this is like a bakery with a wide offer in fresh breads (even bio, vegan or gluten-free) and a lot of pastries (very good croissants!), but also with a café part. You can seat indoors (nice and comfortable, with blankets and stools) and outdoors for all those who likes getting some fresh air! :) You can order there your cold or warm drinks, and something to eat; or simply get take-away. They have several breakfast menus, adapted to any appetite size, with at least a warm drink and a pastry. They also make some fresh squeezed orange juice as you order it! For lunch, they have a lots of fresh-made sandwiches, snacks and salads. I warmly recommend their salads actually: they are quite generous, tasty, healthy of course, and included in the price you get the small bread (=Weckerl) of your choice!

One of my friends was finishing up a coke so we all went and took a table, ordered some pastries and our coffees. Out of nowhere the barista comes over and starts yelling at my friend with the soda, "you have not soda in here, you buy here!? do you understand?!" Instantly we understood, of course we speak english. Yet she CONTINUES to verbally reprimand my friend, who is embarrassed at this point. Every table in the cafe has their heads turned because this barista is SO LOUD. Even though we told her we understand and tell her we will toss out the drink, she continues with her rant. It's as if she had this pent up aggression towards westerners and this was her opportunity to REALLY let off some steam. My friend was so embarrassed that he left the cafe. I went to pay for my coffee and talked with the barista (who's name i do not know) and told her it was completely inappropriate for her to talk to us like that. She obviously is not the brightest person in the world. No more Prindl for me OR my girlfriend, OR my other friends here in Vienna!
