So I am learning so much from Yelp's virtual events and this event, The Rocky Mountain Raptor Program is no stranger to education and information to people like me.... The RMRP is an organization who rescues, rehabilitates and then, returns the Raptor back to the wild. However in some cases, the bird is injured that even with rehabilitation would not survive in the wild. In these cases they are housed and cared for within and through this Raptor Program. The raptors who are in the program are not given names. Why? Not sure but I'm guessing that might lend to attachment so as a rule, No names??? The raptor's beak and it's feet!!! what are they called? Bird Feet!!!! They need the feet and beak as a tool for their survival. Their wing span can reach five feet.... (that spans my height!!! LOL) Those birds are so pretty or handsome as it may be. I'm glad and I tip my hat to the RMRP for giving them a second lease on life. oh, by the way, if you see other birds in harm's way, you can reach out to the RMRP with a picture of what needs help and they will find the right group to assist. Rocky Mountain Raptor Program currently operates at two facilities. The main raptor rehabilitation center and hospital is located at 720B East Vine Drive in Fort Collins Colorado. Although this facility is not open to the public, tours are available for a small fee. You may visit the ELC (Environmental Learning Center) located off of Environmental drive, found at Drake and Ziegler. Some of the Educational Embassadors live at this location full time, including the BAEA (Bald Eagle). Be sure to stop by the ELC during daylight hours. You will be glad that you did. RMRP does host multiple open houses throughout the year, and there you will learn everything that you have ever wanted to learn about Raptors (and no, not the dinosaurs!). For instance, did you know that the AMKE (American Kestrel) is the smallest Falcon found in North America...and the males are even Broncos colors! Once you see one, you will notice just how many there are in Colorado. RMRP rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured birds of prey, including Eagles, Owls, Hawks and Falcons; and through its comprehensive Environmental Education program, teaches the importance of preserving wildlife and wild places for future generations. The director said the cat she was interested in wasn't up for adoption yet and she would have to wait. After many days of my mom calling and talking to the lady she basically said that the cat was already hers she just had to wait for him to be available. Today my mom called the shelter again and the director said THAT THEY GAVE THE CAT AWAY!!!! my mom was so devastated. We just lost our family dog and she was so excited and looking forward to getting a new cat. The director said it was because they had heard my mom say she was going to make it an outdoor cat, WHICH IS COMPLETELY FALSE. first, my mom would never do that. She specifically wants a cuddly indoor kitty as a companion, second the shelter specifically said she cant have an outdoor cat and my mom agreed with that part of the contract. It makes absolutely no sense. I could tell from the very beginning something was off about this rescue and I was right. I'm not sure what they're doing over there but whatever it is it's not good. We will probably be getting in contact with a lawyer. DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!!!

This was about 2 days before Christmas. I was contacted by one of their adoption coordinators not long after and by New Year's Day I was having a meet-and-greet with my potential kitty. Meet and greet went awesome and I signed the adoption papers that day. In less than a week I'd found my new buddy! The adoption cost ($75) covered neuter, vaccines, microchip and more. I felt great knowing I was rescuing a safe and healthy animal. His foster mom was fantastic as were all the Pawsco people I interacted with. Everyone was very helpful and responsive - it was an easy process and I would recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a pet.

They were so kind, helpful, and responsive and even tried to help me find a more local Denver rehab so I didn't have to commute so far, which I really appreciate that empathy. Nothing else worked out, they didn't care about a mouse, so I am very appreciative Greenwood was able to appease this whacky person who wanted to save a mouse. They are supposed to send me an update about Junior after a few weeks, I am still waiting, and if he does make it and get released, he will have a much greater outdoor experience out there in Longmont than he ever would in the city of Denver. I hope to get good news about him someday, but even if not, I still won't regret trying to save the little mouse that I fell a little bit in love with.

The owners Lynn and Mike are incredibly easy to work with. All the staff are well trained and very attentive to the children and help stretch their comfort zone in fun challenging activities. This year camp was cancelled due to COVID-19. As an alternative, CMR has been hosting single family activities to ensure social distancing. We took the opportunity to do this and we had a blast. As parents, we really didn't know much about how the kids spent their time on the ranch. Spending time up there made me feel like a kid again. The staff made the whole experience fun and easy. The measures that CMR are taking to reduce exposure to the virus are as good as any place I've seen. They sanitize every piece of equipment and touch point between each family and keep the flushies sparkling. Oh and hundreds of acres to spread out the guests. After several months of quarantine and more to come, CMR's 2020 family program was much needed. It's also worth mentioning that various special needs grants and scholarships will cover the family program.
