I have a membership to the Scotch plains YMCA, but when it comes to playing basketball we choose the westfield due to a better faculty of the gym. And before we never had a problem. They are apart of the nationwide program. which means anyone from any y is basically allowed. last 2 visits have been horrible. our first time which was a month ago. they wasted our time. made sign the same waiver 4 times. while a man was eyeing us up and down the entire time. which as 2 diverse kids in a not so diverse town. wasn't quite comfortable. then the man soon tells us only adults in the gym. Which was a complete lie because there were many kids of different ages. and they finally allowed us in after everyone left. but then yesterday. So so rude. Same group but i got there early, so they give ME no problem, except the eyeing. So after an hour i go into town to get some food. i meet my friends, and we were gone no more then 30-40 minutes. They "let" me through but give my friend a hard time. we needed the waiver SIGNED again. his parents are busy, and the last time they said we can use a guardians email as long as they over 21. but the lady gets really defensive. And starts saying no you can't. But the same man was there both times and witnessed it both. getting into a particular stance as if we were going to try to attack someone. while i'm trying to explain to peggy, she interrupts and calls over a very disrespectful MADELINE. and says "these kids don't understand anything and won't listen" Ma'am we listened but we tryna explain you something. so madeline comes and says "we don't need to answer anything, they can leave". i try to keep my cool but honestly it bothered a lot. she gets all defensive and starts being rude. while we are simply just trying to play basketball. so she continues with her rudeness. and threatens us with a ban. While the man is looking all dumb, like i wasn't here an hour ago and says "you can go into the open gym, because your from a different YMCA it's a recent law." sir i was there literally an hour ago and i know he saw me before because he called us out and even said he knew where we from. so we walk out and i come back in and ask for their names. Peggy, and then MADELINE, gave me a hard time. but her name badge is clear. so now i will be calling them and filing complaints due to the disrespect and stupidity. i'm honestly never coming to such a horrible staffed gym. read more

Had an excellent work out here. I used to work here but after 5 years the facility is completely different and upgraded! I was welcomed with open arms. Saw a few familiar faces and a bunch of love still there. Can't wait to go back ! read more

This review is solely based upon my experience as a participant of Westfield's Volleyball League at the Y. The staff is very friendly and as soon as you walk in, you are greeted by an employee. This Y has a pool, as well as a large gym area. Every time I come here, I have to walk down a hallway that is filled with parents who are waiting for their children to get out of chess practice...I get very intimidated by these children....they are so focused and dedicated...=) The volleyball league is very well organized. Found out 3 days before camp started that they had unvaccinated staff members. How egregiously irresponsible and dangerous. Was not even given the courtesy of a reply to our request for a refund when we said we wouldn't be sending our daughter there. (She is too young to be vaccinated.) Shame on them. read more

YMCA membership is always great to have, since you can go to different locations and attend on so many different activities, staffs on this location are good. Always plenty of parking here any time. read more

I was in town to visit family and stopped by on a Saturday for a one day pass to get a workout in. The staff was pleasant and the process for getting a day pass was easy and painless. The Westfield Y is big but the set up is totally unorganized. Weights are in one place, cardio equipment is in another place, studios are up on one floor, squash courts on another, the pool is somewhere else. We traversed the whole building too to try and find a place to stretch but there is virtually no floor space available. Nothing is really labeled so we had to ask a few times where to find certain things. We also walked into the men's only weight room because it wasn't labeled. Oops. The cardio equipment is pretty modern with TVs attached. The cardio and weights room are all enclosed and they keep the doors shut so it gets really stuffy in there. All in all, happy to get a workout in but probably wouldn't want to be a member here. Too crazy and ridiculous inside. read more

I would rather go to my dentist for root canals work or have all 4 wisdom tooth pulled than deal with these place or folks. 1) Warning u better not try to use other YMCA membership at this location. 2) Everything is expensive $150 for teen membership, over $250 for swimming lessons. 3) Classes are you want are never ever available - always on waiting list. 4) they never call you back or response to your emails. 5) the attitude at the front desk is just alarming. read more

Staff is great and personable. but god help you if you want to use the auditorium without a reservation. There is no room in the auditorium for the weak-willed. The gym in the basement is well-equipped, but be mindful of school hours. After school and vacations show an upsurge of highschool kids with bottles of Creatine and t-shirts with no sleeves. Don't be deterred by my cynicism. It is a good atmosphere and an important institution, but naturally such accepting places will attract obnoxious elements. read more

Definitely an unintuitive physical layout, but this YMCA has everything necessary to keep you honest while on vacation.

Because of our close proximity and their array of choices for activities, the ymca has become our second "home". There are some very nice employees working there, but there are also some that need serious customer service training. Won't name names. On another hand, considering that this is the YMCA, their prices are very expensive in comparison to others. But then again this IS Westfield. read more

I've been a YMCA member for over 5 years and have generally enjoyed my time their. I spend my time in the weight room which is small, but genuinely a great part of the facility. Be warned however, do not go to workout from 3-4pm if you have the time (especially on Mondays)! Highschool kids get out at that time and love to take up the whole room while getting nothing done for an hour. That is surprisingly my only serious gripe with the building, crowding issues. You have my sincere and best wishes when trying to get any workout in on Monday afternoons/evenings. The place is packed. Otherwise, the YMCA is a nice facility for fitness and you will find most of the staff to be very friendly. Pricing is not horrible either compared to other gyms (RWJ...) read more

I've been a member for 2 years now. The youth athletic programs are great- they are patient and teach age-appropriate skills. The swim instructors are excellent as well, and they have regular open gym and pool hours. I attempted to book a birthday party at one point, and that was very disorganized and expensive, but other than that we've had great experiences. read more

While there are some wonderful people working there, there are better options for childcare. Some individuals working there that should not be working with children or the general public. read more
