I love that they are able to make this breakfast classic a handy snack that you could eat at just about any time of the day. The waffles are cooked on the spot when you order so it takes about 3 to 5 minutes to prepare each one. Worth the wait to get a warm waffle with crisp side which is generously filled with your choice of sweet or savory flavors. You can get plain ones that are good like hazel nut or strawberry. I personally like their cream cheese line - get either the strawberry cream cheese or the blueberry cream cheese. If you want something that tastes like an American classic, try the Peanut Butter and Strawberry. I love how the chunky unsweetened strawberry goes really well with their jam which has real strawberry bits. It's no wonder the brand is growing exponentially in Manila. I've seen franchise branches in just about every mall I've been to - from SM to Makati Square. Since I often stop to grab a bite there, I could honesty tell you that they have very good quality control. All their branches produce the same quality of waffles with identical flavors, no matter where you get it from.

She consented, and so off we went. The first thing that I have to comment about is that it was so ironic... but the restaurant told us that they were out of waffles for the day. To be honest, that's a deal-breaker for me when it comes to restaurants -- them being out of stock of ANYTHING, but I was in a good mood so I let it slide. After all, that's life. Crap happens. It was dinner time anyway so I decided to go for the SPAM Filipino favorite meal; which features two slices of pan-seared SPAM, two farm-fresh eggs (any style), and unlimited garlic rice. Needless to say, I was very full. It's comfort food at its finest and at its cheapest so how could I complain? Of course, the ambiance isn't entirely luxe, but what do you expect for these prices? This is a good place to go to if you're on the search for a quick bite that won't break the bank and that will leave you 100 percent satisfied. When my husband and I stay in BGC -- Bonifacio Global City in Taguig within Metro Manila -- our internal clocks are usually completely confused for the first several days. BGC itself is one of the most modern and walkable districts in the Philippines, filled with high-rises, parks, restaurants, shopping areas, and surprisingly peaceful streets during the early morning hours. So naturally, we often find ourselves wandering around the city at dawn while the rest of the world still seems asleep. And when it is 6:00 AM in Manila, it is roughly 5:00 PM back in Sioux Falls depending on daylight savings, which means our bodies are basically convinced it is dinner time while we are attempting to eat breakfast. Traveling is glamorous. Jet lag is not. During one of these early morning walks, we stumbled into Wildflour Cafe, which immediately gave us the feeling of an upscale neighborhood bakery mixed with a polished diner-style brunch spot. It was already surprisingly busy even at that hour, clearly a favorite among locals and early risers. Honestly, the easiest comparison I can make is: Imagine a much more refined and stylish version of Denny's, except with better food, fresher pastries, and significantly more polished presentation. Now to be fair, this is not necessarily the kind of breakfast that completely changes your life forever. But it absolutely is several levels above ordinary diner food. My husband and I both ordered steak and eggs along with a large serving of bread and butter to share because apparently we believe carbohydrates are an important emotional support system while jet lagged. I ordered my eggs scrambled while my husband went with over easy. The breakfast potatoes were fresh, flavorful, and wonderfully prepared. The steak itself was a bit overdone for my personal taste. My husband actually enjoys steak prepared more thoroughly for breakfast dishes, but I have always preferred at least a little pink or redness remaining no matter how small the cut may be. The real star for me, however, was the bread. Warm, fragrant, slightly crumbly, and absolutely wonderful once the butter slowly melted into every crevice. There is something deeply comforting about fresh bread early in the morning while sitting in a quiet cafe halfway around the world watching a city wake up around you. Now the one surprise during this visit was the service. Because Filipino hospitality is usually exceptional. Truly exceptional. In fact, some of the best service experiences my husband and I have ever had anywhere in the world have been in the Philippines. This particular morning, however, things felt a little slower and less attentive than what we are normally accustomed to there. Nothing terrible at all -- the cafe was extremely busy -- but it did stand out compared to the typically warm and highly attentive Filipino dining experience we have come to expect. Overall though, it was still a very enjoyable breakfast and a wonderful way to begin the day. Or technically... begin the day in Manila while our bodies were fully convinced it was bedtime back in Sioux Falls. At some point during breakfast I remember thinking: "We should probably go to sleep soon." At 7:00 AM. Jet lag is a very strange thing.

It's a showroom where you can see the baristas making all the different beverages with high-quality espresso machines, like La Marzocca in the center of the space. It's a great way for consumers to learn more about how their coffee is prepared and made, only using the best ingredients and tools. We ordered a Vanilla Flat White, Drip and a Butterscotch Waffle. The items were delivered to our table as they were finished, getting our drinks first. The drip was one of five brews that they had that day and was very, very good! It was a bold and dark roast, reaffirming those who drink drip coffee why it's always a solid choice. The Vanilla Flat White was made with Madagascar vanilla, espresso and foam from milk, and it was awesome! You could really taste that strong vanilla flavor without it being too sweet, which I liked. And once the Butterscotch Waffle came we were pleasantly surprised to find all that it came with! When I ordered it I figured it would be a waffle with some butterscotch sauce (I love butterscotch!), but it had two scoops of Madagascar vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, slices of banana that were flambeed with brown sugar, creating that butterscotch flavor! How cool is that? Glad we were sharing this waffle because the portion was more than what we could handle, but it was so tasty that we didn't want to stop. Loved the different, fresh ingredients used here, making a huge difference in flavor. I highly recommend trying a waffle here, even if you just plan to get coffee here! Ambiance of Yardstick Coffee is open, spacious and inviting. Since the baristas are making your beverage in the center of the room, you're invited to watch and learn how its done. There's also a separate room in the space where they host cupping classes! Gotta love that and would've taken advantage of one, had we been in Manila during one. For anyone who loves coffee, Yardstick Coffee is where to visit in Manila. It goes beyond coffee chains and customer service. It's a place where you can not only enjoy what you're consuming, but you can learn where products are from and how its made, giving you a better understanding of why a damn good cup of coffee matters.
