The Lost Bread's Fruitloose - Froot Loops and Vodka milkshake
    Nonito C.

I hate The Lost Bread. I hate their super thick and rich milkshakes that explode with crazy and brilliant ideas. Seriously? An ice cream milkshake with an entire doughnut blended in, and topped with whipped cream and coffee sprinkles? I hate how this weird culinary invention cools me down during a hot day. Ew. What about a soft-serve ice cream blended with peanut butter, a slice of brownie and topped with nuts? Gross, right? They have a vanilla cake milkshake mixed topped with caramel popcorn and a giant cloud of cotton candy. They also have an adults-only drink list with shots of Bailey's, Kahlua and Vodka mixed in with the milkshakes. What were these guys smoking when they thought of these outrageous drink ideas, huh? Okay, I'm going to stop there with the failed attempt at writing a satire. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! I cannot wait until they finally start selling their french toasts, which sound heavenly. The Lost bread is still on its soft opening, and I can't wait to have the grilled cheese and tomato soup combo that they have on the menu. They will have a variety of sweet and savory french toasts to go with their eccentric yet awesome milkshake inventions. The owners Emil and Patty are such sweethearts, too! They are always so nice and accommodating. They close down during Mondays, and expect long lines when they do open the rest of the week. Normal waiting time is 15-30 minutes for a milkshake since there is usually a line to the door.

This place confused me during my first visit. From the outside, it looked like someone's idea of a bakery, which meshed with its name, which is a literal translation of 'pain perdu', which is French for toast. Upon entering, you realize that they make shakes, mainly, and that they don't even have French toast on the menu. Huh. Shoulder through that disconnect though, and you'll be surprised at what you'd find. A milkshake with popcorn mixed in, and topped with a huge Afro bob of cotton candy? Yes, please. They also have liquor-infused milkshakes which I admit is tempting. I have to come back and try those, stat.

I went to the maginhawa branch. This place was alright. I've been to other dessert spots and this one is alright. They make their drinks too sweet. I couldnt finish the whole cup. At one point it I got tired of it.

Tried The Lost Bread at Maginhawang Pasko, a food festival celebrating all the food in the area surrounding Maginhawa Street. Good service, the place is small but cute, and I like the whimsical concepts of the milkshakes. If I were just to base it off the milkshakes alone though, I would have to give it a 6.5/10. My friend actually remarked that she thought both our milkshakes tasted more or less the same, despite having very different flavor profiles. The Kahlua in the Swiss Missed milkshake was not strong at all. The milkshakes were also pretty thin, and didn't have the creaminess or rich flavor I was looking for. Prices are around ~100P per drink so it's affordable for sure, but I would be willing to splurge a little more on an awesome milkshake.

So many options that I ordered two things. The cookie jar and a strawberry lychee iced tea. Of the two, the iced tea was most appealing for my taste buds, but the cookie jar shake was just plain fun!

I guess I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to how I like my milkshakes, but The Lost Bread's Carnival, by its sheer appearance, was something I knew I had to try. As one of StrEAT's main draws, this little café cum bakery offers up some crazy milkshakes, too! I love that the presentation is fantastic and the flavors are creative, though I'm not sure I'll order the Carnival again because it took so long to arrive, and it was a tad too sweet for my liking! Granted, I came at a peak hour and they were making the Carnival by batch, but still.

Located in a small food park in UP village. Ordered quite instagrammable signature drink named carnival. Visual was perfect, yet actually the cotton candy was a bit too sticky ad overly sweet. Shake itself was pretty decent. If they could provide something to wipe your fingers, it'll be very generous enough to get one more star.

When I heard about a French Toast place opening at StrEAT, I was excited. There's something about French toast I love. Maybe it's the custard, maybe it's the way that people have started using French toast as a canvas for other flavors that gets me excited, I don't know. All I knew was I had to try out the new place. It wasn't until after Holy Week that I finally got my first taste of the Lost Bread. So, how was it? Was the wait worth it? Well.... When the doors finally opened, I was disappointed to find that the french toast wasn't available. So much for that. But I was determined. Given the people who showed up waiting for them to open, there should be something worth ordering on their menu, right? So I decided to go with my gut and ordered the Carnival. Caramel popcorn, in-house made cotton candy, not a bad price for a decently sized milkshake, how could you go wrong? What I got was visibly exciting: a thick vanilla milkshake with caramel popcorn and a huge ball of cotton candy. Good concept. Delectable to the eye. The taste however was slightly underwhelming. Under the surface, it was a vanilla milkshake with caramel popcorn. The cotton candy didn't really add much to the flavor but it was fun to nibble on before digging into the milkshake. The milkshake was fine. Creamy, thick (maybe a little too thick) and reminiscent of melted ice cream but in a good way! Not too sweet which is a good thing. Will I be going back? Only if I can finally get my hands on that elusive French toast.

I have no clue why this place gets good reviews. Honestly the hype died down for me when i tasted their milkshake. Everything was either too sweet or too bland there was no balance at all. Especially since i ordered all their best sellers (sodapop thing was too sweet, the popsicle just confused my tongue, the carnival was visually spectacular but man was that milkshake bad and the maple pancake.. ooohh the maple pancake, it was like a 7 yearold cooked it) - utter disappointment. Maybe because i relied so heavily on their instagram pictures #instaSCAM. On the lighter note their staff was very nice and service was fast hence the 2 star.

A milkshake topped with cotton candy? Why hasn't anyone thought of this before? A 2-hour wait to get The Carnival was, actually, worth it. Obviously, The Lost Bread isn't the milkshake hub of choice for the impatient ones, nor for those dining alone. Yes, they take a long time to open (they were still on soft opening when I visited) and they had to close again after 30 minutes of taking orders but they do make up for it with the taste and the experience. The Carnival, to me, reminded me of really good McDonald's sundae. The soft cotton candy was crafted inside the store itself, and the caramelized popcorn separating the cotton candy from the milkshake was a bonus. For a milkshake as unique and ingenious as this, you'd expect it to be priced relatively higher than other milkshake hubs. Surprisingly, it's actually much, much cheaper! I would come back with friends in tow just for the liquor infused drinks.

For a while, it's been my go-to dessert store after nice meals since there wasn't much places selling cakes along Maginhawa back then. But now, there has been more competition and it seems like Fancy was boxed out from the prime real estate. PROS: Once a week, they have a promo where they slash 50% off from their cakes; Endless coffee for P50.00; More cheesecake and cake choices; Cute crepe presentations where they write your name with syrup; Quirky interiors that Zooey Deschanel may approve. CONS: They've had a price increase since relocation; Serving size has gone smaller too. TL;DR: It's not really a unique experience, and you may find the servings not enough, but it's a good tambay place where you could get your stuff done.

But I do remember when Fancy Crepes and Cakes was the only spot in Maginhawa where you could get something fancier than McD's sundaes for dessert. Dark times those. Dark times. There's a certain delicacy to this place. Their crepes are the thinner French variety but that doesn't make them the lesser species of crepe. They're just the thing if you want something lighter or at least something to nibble on while hanging out with a friend or doing some work. And yes, they do have bottomless coffee. Where else can you get bottomless coffee for 50php? Caffeine coma, here I come. As Faye said, I was a little disappointed that their serving sizes seem to have gone down but eh, they still make good stuff. The I Love NY is still a personal favorite.

This is perhaps my favorite nook in the entire city…read more I imagine that this is how Marie Antoinette would want her wine cellar to look like, with the bottles lined along the walls all the way to the curvature of the domed ceiling. The lighting is soft, and dramatic, and has the power to invoke both glamor and chill. Everybody just looks good. Now, imagine suddenly being in it, sipping that nice tall glass of bubbly while conversing with your favorite people. This in fact was how I had celebrated my birthday recently and I wouldn't have had it any other way. It is actually a small place with only around 6 tables inside. Their wine selection is extensive enough and of course mostly French, except for the sparkling wines because according to the sommelier, those usually come from Italy. Their prices range from the frighteningly cheap to the threateningly steep, so it's really up to you if you feel like playing el cheapo or mister spender. Also, the deli serves an assortment of baguettes, patés cold cuts and cheeses, albeit limited. You are welcome to put something together to have with your wine, which is exciting for me, but if that's not your thing, there is also a menu of sandwiches and small plates. Also, the pastries and macaroons are something worth sinking your teeth into. It is open 'til the wee hours of the morning which makes me fall in love even more.

I was expecting a broader selection. I was looking for malbecs or more varieties of merlot and cabernet. I was quite disappointed. They don't really have a lot of choices for the in betweens - it was either really cheap or really expensive. I can't complain though. The prices are really reasonable. My friend and I spent only PHP 1000 for a bottle of wine and two slices of dessert. Good place to bring a date - when you feel like having something fancy but don't want to spend too much. Great value for money. It's worth trying.

It wasn't until I saw the menu that I had realized it was the same restaurant I previously tried, so I thought, "OK, this should be good." Although I found it rather strange that they'd put up a branch there as I have a notion that La Creperie can be a bit pricey especially for students. First of all, the ambiance. It's not really conducive for studying, but more for an intimate dinner with your significant other or a best friend with its cozy lighting and interiors that scream "tea party!" Kidding aside, while the interior's all girly-girly, I think it helps set the mood for the food you are about to enjoy. As for me, I had the Le JJ - a tomato, ham, emmental and gruyere cheese crepe served with a side of greens. Let me tell you though, the plate was lovely! The food was okay for me I guess, it's not too filling and I think it's a great option if you're looking for something light (plus nice to look at). On the side, I had a steaming hot pot of TWG Silver Moon Tea. The teacup itself is super pretty!!! I felt really dainty while drinking my tea and enjoying my crepe. One of the biggest things though about La Creperie is that they already had TWG tea on their menu even before the TWG restaurant came to Philippine shores, and on my very first La Creperie experience, Silver Moon was really, love at first taste so this is what I ordered when I stumbled upon this branch. Overall, I think La Creperie would make for a good date place (guys, please take note!) It has everything a girl will probably want to make the date picture perfect (and Instagrammable): pretty plates, pretty teacups, light food, pretty ambiance. It's well-lit and especially remote, with Craft getting a lot more attention (at least when I went). It's pretty surprising how girly and intricate the interior is designed - it definitely stands out from most establishments in the area, and in a good way. It's a bit small, but I've never seen it crowded. I was stuck there for an entire afternoon because of the rain with my friends, so we got to try quite a bit on their menu. Their crepes are yummy, warm, and fresh - perfect food to fight the gloomy weather and spirits. I got a familiar pasta dish - the pesto cream carbonara - which was really filling and not too heavy on the cream. Spent nearly P500 though, so I'll probably only be coming back to get some coffee when it gets too crowded in the nearby cafes.
