Saifon is an amazing yoga teacher! She has a variety of yoga classes from strengthening your core, to primal flow classes - which combine primal dance and yoga and amazing sound healing classes. Her sound healing class is one of the best I have ever attended, it really balanced some issues I have in my vagal nerve due to childhood ptsd. I felt a lot more grounded the week I attended the sound healing. She also knows how to instruct people into difficult poses. She eases the student into difficult poses at the level they are capable of, so they can evolve into the pose without injuring themselves. Her graceful teaching style definitely shows her years of experience and wisdom . Yoga Hale is a cozy beautiful home environment that I really enjoy and gotten a lot of healing from. Needed to get my sweat on while on this little corona-cation. Luckily Yoga Hale was still offering classes. I jumped at the chance missing my hot yoga back home. Quick easy process to sign up and sign waiver online. When I arrived, Chantel, the teacher greeted me at the entrance and checked me in. It didn't look like the information was received on her end, but it was again, a quick easy process. After paperwork and payment, she guided me back to the studio. It appeared to be a maze through another studio with curtains surrounding the workout floor and through another with a curtain. This was a smaller studio with about 8 infrared heating elements around the perimeter. There were only three students, including me. Chantel is in incredible shape and she led her class in a way that resembles that. Although I've taken hot yoga classes before within this lineage, she strayed a bit from the normal routine and it pressed me to work harder than I had in the past. Luckily, I survived! She very much tailored the class to the participants, which was very cool. This is a really cool studio with multiple areas for exercise and even a tatoo shop in the back! An intimate studio with a big heart. I was fortunate to have been present for the blessing on Monday and attended a class this morning. Crystal singing bowls, guided meditation and fragrant oils began this class before getting into some fierce Buti yoga! It was a tad out of my physical range, however I modified for me and never felt looked down on when taking a needed extra breath here or there. Bring water, an open heart and a willing spirit! I set up an account on the website to sign up for classes the day before. This was our first time and we are visiting from San Diego for a week. My husband and sister were also checking in but did not sign up in advance . Everything was good and we were able to rent matts there and all the prices were very reasonable. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly . It was a Sunday morning so it was crowded but the yoga flow was challenging in the high humidity and the room was perfectly heated around 105 degrees or so! stretching poses in the beginning then strength and balance flow that lead to more relaxation stretches towards the end. It was a 90 minute class that ended in a group meditation. Next time we visit we will definitely come take another class here ! read more

Went here during Ironman and unfortunately had a really poor experience. The room we were in was far too small for the amount of students in there - which made the experience really uncomfortable and hard to concentrate. The class was supposed to be a vinyasa, but, you could tell the teachers background was in Bikram with her suggested breathing methods, and cue claps. I have to say I was most perturbed by the attitude of the locals attending the class - they all seemed to be very vocal about how unwelcomed the Ironman visitors were, and how they essentially did not appreciate having us in class because we were 'taking up room'. That experience alone made me not want to go back, especially after my friend and I made a sizable donation for a 45-minute class. read more

I recently relocated to the Big Island and paid for a one month unlimited membership at this studio. Pros: Studio space large and clean, instructors are very qualified and knowledgeable and I have been very satisfied with every in-class experience. Classes are offered 7 days a week and they have a variety of classes in addition to yoga. Areas to improve: scheduling, not sure whether online or print copy is most accurate. Showed up once to a Krav Maga Class that was listed online and in print at 7PM. Waited 15 minutes past the hour and the instructor did not come, nor did any other students. A hip hop class I planned on going to was cancelled (indicated online), thus I learned my lesson and checked online for my Hula class today at 4PM and confirmed availability. Showed up to studio to find a new print copy on the door that did not have Hip Hop listed thus walked back home. May be a class capacity issue, I am lucky I live close and can walk. I still recommend that studio as the classes are great, scheduling is just fickle for the non-yoga classes. read more

A December vacation lets you get a jump on New Year's resolutions. Getting my computer-hunched, frozen-shouldered, stiff-legged frame into some kind of working order is one. Confession: I am for various reasons not a yoga aficionado. So when I reviewed the nearby offerings, the 75-minute sessions (versus the standard 90 minutes) appealed the most. Fortunately, even a reluctant yogi can add to the positive reviews. On the second level in the same corner lot that houses Umeke's Seafood, Lemongrass Bistro and Shimaichi Sushi, the space can fit about 20 bodies. A back room is divvied up between small shelves to hold personal items, hooks to dry out rental mats, a bathroom stall and a shower stall. A dark curtain's about the only privacy you'll get with the shower stall, but it's nice touch if you want to make yourself immediately presentable to mankind after an infrared heat-induced sweat. As other reviewers mentioned, Yoga Hale lists a variety of classes like Power Flow and Krav Maga. If I were here longer, I would've tried those out, but I opted for whatever was available in the morning (first classes often start at 7:30), which were hot Vinyasa I and II. There's a drop-in fee, but the owner was kind enough to let my husband and I split a 6-session class pass. A warning to practitioners who consider real-life background noise disruptive: The locale's convenience = means there will be noise from traffic and construction. For the tourists: The parking entrance is actually on Hualalai Road, which intersects Alli Drive. Easy-peasy walk if you're in that area, and you can rent mats and towels. A bonus to practitioners who like eating: Umeke's! Heck, I'd probably do a lot more yoga if I could follow my downward dogs with ahi poke. read more

Nice studio in central Kona, easy to get to and near a gym. Parking can be challenging at times. The studio itself is calming and nice, quaint, and the yogi who led our class was good. I'm from yoga central on the west coast where yoga wear has now become street wear so it was nice to get away from that and feel comfortable at my level. read more

If you are on the Big Island and want to maintain your yoga practice this is a great place to take classes. They have a great group of instructors and demonstrate multiple levels and modifications during the class. If you are not familiar with Yoga this might not be the place to take a true introductory class. they have all the props and mats you need available (mats are for rent and offer classes 7 days a week. the studio is in the back of a house in a residential area but don't let that talk you out of going. just stay to the left of the house all the way around the back by the pool is the studio that overlooks the ocean. great experience read more

As a regular practitioner of Bikram yoga I was happy to find a studio on the island that offered Hot Yoga sessions. What was very clear was that the instructor was highly motivated and you could just tell that the regular attendees truly enjoyed their practice. I was welcomed right away and felt at home almost immediately. I hope to be back on the island soon and return for more lessons at Yoga Hale. There are classes going on nearly every hour of the day - lots of yoga but also Hip Hop, Hooping, Belly Dance, Pole Fitness, Buti Fitness, and some others too. I visited Yoga Hale during a visit to my parents and it really felt like my yoga/fitness studio away from home, super nice staff, beautiful studio, and they offer classes for everyone! They even had freshly made juices available after class. I loved my tabata style class with cardio, stretching and yoga a perfect combo! My abs are a little sore today from the workout sequence but hey- that's a good thing since I figured I indulge in the goodies when on vacation so you have to balance it out with a good workout! Visited the BI and wanted to keep up my yoga practice, and took a chance on Yoga Hale based on the excellent reviews on yelp. Thanks yelpers, you were so right! Yoga Hale is filled with locals and a very strong, friendly community vibe. Dana Strang's an amazing instructor, she coaxed the best out of her hot vinyasa class. She says great yoga-y stuff in a really matter-of-fact way, which was super appealing to me, it was a yin-yang balance having soft new age-isms couched in a practical let's get down to business manner. The pacing was perfect, I like a gentle yoga every now and then, because that pushes me to the limit in one way, in that I really have to slow down in every way and that is super hard too. But sometimes I just want to push myself physically while I go inward. I really got a great momentum going, sunk really into it, felt so great and challenging, and was sore for two days after. Great workout. Mind you I thought it would be too much to do hot and muggy in an already hot and muggy tropical setting, but it really wasn't, I left feeling so much lighter than at the onset of class. That lightness stayed with me, too. And at the end when Dana stated it was a blessing for us to share our practice with her, her words just went right through me, I thought of all my teachers, and I was so taken by surprise to find myself near tears. I was so moved. I'll be planning on coming here every time I'm on the BI from here on out. read more

I am quite grateful my aunt located Yoga Hale which offers Krav Maga classes, I take Krav Maga at home and was pretty stoked to hear I was able to train while vacationing. The location was very easy to find coming from Captain Cook, parking is available and you register online receive a confirmation that you are checked in via email. I've been following Yoga Hale since their first location on the corner of Hualalai and Kuakini Hwy. My first class taken there about 2 years ago was with Candis for XY. Back then she was the only one who offered XY in kona, which lead me to other classes. I was so excited when I heard they were opening a bigger space. Currently in their new location in the old industrial area,not only do they have many classes to choose from, but also offers 3 different rooms for classes. They also have a juice bar and a Massage therapist usually on site. They have recently opened up a shower so we can freshen up after our classes. Especially hot yoga. I currently am taking several different classes on different days. My hands down favorite is hot Vinyāsa with Whitney/saifon. All instructors are amazing and educating. There are several other classes I would love to take but just can't fit into my busy schedule. But every chance I get, you'll find me at my happy place!
