This was my first trip to Yoga on High. A fellow yogi at my home studio posted to our YTT group that YoH was offering an open, free class this AM. Given that she was going, it was something I was able to go to, and my home studio offered something else at the same time that was not my preference, it was the perfect chance to check out the studio. It's always easier to try something new with a friend - even if you arrive first. Parking was easy once I got there. I use to live in the area so I knew my options. It looks like there are a couple of dedicated spaces behind the building - but there's lots of street parking nearby on the residential side streets. I got there early like they said to - before the instructor opened the building. And I was not alone. Our studio just about always opens 20+ minutes before class. Not so here. No biggie. Still plenty of time to get settled in. The store front area is small with a desk, a couple retail items, and coat hooks and shoe cubbies. The yoga room is HUGE compared to what I'm used to. That being the case, people were able to take their bags and "stuff" with them. I found this nice as I had my phone, car keys, a little $, towel, hair ties and mat towel - all in a little bag. So to have and my water bottle handy was cool. There were plenty of props available - blocks, bolsters and blankets. The only thing I didn't see were straps. ALl the same - plenty for everyone. The set up of the room was good - although the instructor barely demo'd - rather wandering most of the time. I made the mistake of being in the back row and set up against the wall - like the lady next to me. It didn't leave room to stretch arms over my head when lying down. However, it let me do a headstand later - which I still like to have a wall - not do in an open area. There was NO MUSIC. Hatha style maybe? Or instructor's preference? No idea. However, I didn't notice until sivasana. Overall, nice class. Very basic. Not much vinyasa (if at all), but good to return to the basics and try something new. read more

Loved my yoga session! Everyone was so nice! I called in letting them know how I was going to be about 5 mins late due to traffic. When I walked in they had placed a mat for me already! That was so nice! All I had to do was jump right in the class! The down part to it was after... I asked if they needed anything from me and she said to fill out my info and that was it. It was assumed since it was my first time it was free since she said that was all she needed from me and then told me to have a nice night. I get a phone call 30mins later from them letting me know I didn't pay for my session. And that next time I will need to. No one told me I had to pay and I wouldn't leave without doing so if I had to. Just felt really awkward and annoyed about that. Bad first impression. read more

I'm a bit of a window shopper when it comes to Yoga... a few classes here, a few there, but I don't usually stick around for long. Mostly, I have felt either out of place at a particular studio or a bit like someone was trying to sell me a used car or convert me to a new religion. I want people to say hi and smile, but I don't want to have to dedicate my life to a practice to please you either. Grow Yoga is the perfect place in the middle. I took the beginner's series just to get a feel for the place. Holly is a fantastic instructor who is friendly, but low pressure. She tells you the whys of the practice, but leaves your individual practice up to you. She is great at modifications and adjustments and creates a very comfortable environment. I have also gone to classes with a few other instructors and everyone pretty much toes the same line. Open without being overbearing. Classes are well priced and varied, good smathering of times. Parking is decent and the location is easy to get to. I am definitely going to stick around for awhile. read more

Holy yoga. Love, love, love the ashantaga classes here. The classes were strenuous without being unenjoyable. The instructors were great and gave each student personal attention. The space is beautiful, too. This place is exactly what I was looking for. They have a variety of different yoga types - hatha, ashantaga, and even a "happy hour hot yoga" on friday nights. They're running a special right now where new students can get a month unlimited for $55. That is a steal for a yoga studio (regular price is $120/month). It pays for itself in four classes. Now run out and buy yo'self some yoga. read more

So far, so good! I'm a newbie at this studio thanks to the kind folks at Groupon, but I am really enjoying my time here. It's a sister to Yoga on High, and shares a lot of similarities with it. So far, I have only taken classes with Sally, but I find her yoga powerful, playful, and challenging. The studio is impeccably clean and smells pleasant. The studio offers free mats to borrow for classes, and these delightful heavy throw blankets to sit on, use for support, rest your head on--they are quite comfortable. I like to get to my class early and just sit on my blanket for a couple minutes :) The other yogis are a great bunch: friendly, supportive, and amicable. If you a first-time yogi, or someone deep into their practice, this studio meets both your needs. I only wise that the studio was a bit hotter for the hot yoga. I'm going to estimate and say the room gets to the mid-80s. It's also useful to know that there aren't changing rooms or locker rooms. If you can come already in your yoga gear rather than straight from work, you'd be better off. read more

Well my wife and I made a drop in visit, on the surface all was well received, however, instructor was a bit tired and weary about a pervious class the day before. Very dis-organized and all over the radar, very hard to focus and relax. Went over three times about the open/no thank you card. What good this did, never respected the use of the card. Had 1 hour and 15 min class was a begineer class. The bathrooms reminded you of a bar-room bathroom with urine all over the place. Would I go back, no way, I assumed the 19 dollar fee was getting a professional studio and not some make over house. read more

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed the 6 or so classes (I usually did Modified Primary) that I took at It's Yoga. The level of instruction was usually a just right challenge for me. If you're a beginner, I would definitely recommend starting with the beginner classes.But there was something about It's Yoga that I didn't like as much as Balanced Yoga. I can't put my finger on it: Balanced seemed a little more welcoming and intimate. For some reason, I always felt a little like I was trying to break into some yoga clique when going to It's Yoga. However, I must say that the instructors at both locations really know what they're doing. So if you're looking for competent instructors, both places should serve you well. read more

Grow Yoga has an easy online sign up. I signed up for a "trial" free September class to try it out. I've been looking for a yoga place closer to me than Yoga on High In the Short North (which is equally as awesome). I took Jenna's "drop-in" class. I immediately felt a sense of community at Grow. In the class and also with the staff. The class included your usual downward dog but there were a few challenging, new poses to me. I definitely worked up a sweat! The music was calming. At the end, she offered shoulder and neck adjustments with lavender oil. I will be back at least three times a week! Thank you, Jenna and Grow Yoga! read more

Loved the Yoga class. I took Ashtanga after reading the reviews and was not disappointed. I have had some training, but not a lot and the intermediate 2/3 Ashtanga managed to be both super strenuous and something that I wanted to strive to get better at while not being so over my head that I couldn't enjoy it. There was personal instruction, but not too over the top. Definitely put this studio on your "to do" list. read more

I love practicing yoga at Grow Yoga. My favorite class is Holly's class on Mondays at 745. It's a great way to start my week. I am a Massage Therapist and I always let my clients who are looking to start or continue a yoga practice, know about Grow Yoga. I am so happy to have such a great studio so close to home. I never thought I liked yoga till one of my friends dragged me along to a free class here one Saturday. I didn't really know what to expect because I thought yoga was slow and boring. Well, the class that I went to taught by Lisa is like no other yoga I have ever taken before!! It was fast paced, fun, enjoyable, and challenging all at the same time. Lisa is a wonderful instructor and helps you to make sure you are correctly doing the moves. I have only been to her class on Fridays, but I feel amazing after I take the Happy Hour Hot Yoga class. Say what? Yes, I like this class so much that I would go and sweat a million buckets from every pore of my body on a Friday night because this class is so amazing. Whenever someone says to me that they don't like yoga, I say that they have to try out Grow Yoga! read more

Earlier this year, I purchased a ten-class pass from Groupon and attended Grow Yoga's hot flow yoga classes. It is a neat studio with a relaxing atmosphere. Sally Roberts is a great instructor. She knows a lot of different poses, which keeps the classes interesting and challenging. I liked this place a lot but decided to explore a couple other places. None of them was as good. Now I'm a returning student. read more

This past fall/winter I joined for the beginners series and it was great! I learned exactly what I need to be doing and loved the pace/flow. If anyone is looking for a place to get started Grow is a must. I am going to be taking another series and can not wait! read more
