Living in The Bay Area and at a yoga retreat center in Hawaii has exposed me to a wide range of celebrated instructors. But studying with Rosy has been one of the pivotal experiences in my life. When I joined an intensive series in which she teaches Primal Core yoga, I was healing from a major back injury and surgery. It was almost like starting yoga from scratch to practice post surgery. Rosy always approached me with care and helped modify poses to make them appropriate for me. I was inspired to explore the boundaries of my body within the safe container of her class. After a couple months I found myself able to get into a full wheel pose! A full back bend was impossible at the beginning of the series. Rosy's compassionate but firm teaching style is a wonderful way to challenge yourself from a place of love in order to find your true strength. Approaching the body as Rosy instructs facilitated major healing in my body, my heart and my mind. Warning! Beware of the Transformational Power Breath if you want to stay in the same ruts you have been in. If you are ready to bring about positive changes in your life, come take class with Rosy. You will sweat, breath deeply, stretch, strengthen, laugh, meditate, release and maybe even shed a tear.

Because I am pretty picky, I wasn't sure I'd be into it, but 6 years of knee pain made me willing to try. Rosy taught me some ways to work with the alignment of my feet, knees and hips that I'd never seen before, even after working with 3 different physical therapists in the past. At one point, my knee started hurting, and she was able to simply and quickly move my leg around and get my joints back in sync. Rosy's style is so warm, compassionate and accepting, I felt really good in her presence and inspired to get stronger. Now I am back on track with exercise and credit this change in large part to Rosy. If only I could get myself to wake up early, I would try her boot camp for sure!

(2000) My reason for sticking with Golden Lion is because everyone is family and has always cared about me and each other. We mingle with each other by having picnics, movie night and not to mention we mingle with other students from the whole Plum Blossom Federation by competing in Tournaments and other cool events. Even though we have fun and joke around, practicing at Golden Lion is tough. They train you well and make sure you understand and practice correctly. It's not just about doing the moves, but the lower the stance the better. They train you hard even though it's tough, because, "No pain no gain," is what Sifu always says. Why would you want to go somewhere to train and just "DO" the work without "REALLY" knowing it?" Waste of money and time. You might as well get a great work out and come home feeling really good. Not to mention," it's not a waste of money by doing so." I wouldn't be at Golden Lion for twelve years already if I didn't like it there. I get good vibes from not just the people, but the work out. Yes, I admit, I have skipped classes, but you know what? Its one hellova miss out. Skipping a kung fu class session just makes it worse because the donut you had that day would still be in your system and that just means those calories are stuck there. I can't stress it enough to say that being at Golden Lion is one of the best things in my life. Also, if having problems outside of Golden Lion, just being at the school has nothing but happiness. Its not Choy Li Fut that I love & practice, its Golden Lion that makes me want to stay and learn Choy Li Fut.

The meditator needs this movement to strengthen the body and to help open the psychic centers to be most effective. A one hour session at Mountain Lion includes Qigong warm-ups, meditation/ breathing to calm the mind, and drills performed slowly to help students cultivate deep concentration and mind/ body co-ordination for balance. The instructors are constantly watching to ensure that each move is performed properly to prevent injuries. In addition, they are knowledgeable about how each move affects different parts of the body so movements during the hour will engage the whole body. This does require effort and a commitment, but the goal of attaining health, longevity, fun, and inner tranquility is worth it - especially for the 50+ crowd. To top it off, the instructors and classmates continually give positive feedback on what you are doing correctly to boost your confidence. My only regret is that I didn't start the Tai Chi Chuan practice at Mountain Lion when I was much younger. Nadine Oei

I was battling with a 'sense of failure' as a father/husband/person due to what I thought was from financial pressures and a lack of empathy, accountability with my was breaking down my relationship with my wife. His counseling experience and deep knowledge of behavioral therapy identified a possible 'Complex Relational trauma response' disorder that my wife showed signs of displaying. Justin helped me understand her trauma response and how I was reacting to her issues with my own issues which triggered her fear, abandoment, frustration, mistrust, and gravitation to conflict which induced my own defensiveness reactions and anger. He provided me with my own personal tools to deploy on a regular basis. These helped me be nice to myself and appreciate my purpose and that I was actually doing my best to improve myself and provide love most importantly. Some of those solutions and tools such as meditation, mindfulness, self awareness/development created personal behavioral changes and coping strategies I now feel better about myself . A relationship tools I really liked was his own self developed 'Oh-Five-X Repair Framework' ( a one page document) which has provided us ability to create a safe place for trust, healing, and recovering from past trauma and experiences in our relationship and personal pasts. I've developed a deeper understanding and awareness of myself and Justin's actionable tools and strategies are much more than what most other life coaches or counselors can deliver. Its his ability to land these strategies/tools on point and get you to understand how to employ them to get better/improve/develop yourself With this guidance I've noticed I've become more empathetic, less reative and more self caring so my family can continue to heal, and our relationship and welfare of ourselves beniftis our family. I was in counseling with someone else when my father passed away. The sessions--which were missing…read morethe mark to begin with--became even more painful, and eventually I left. I knew I needed a different conversation and began searching online for someone new. I found three possibilities. After speaking with each of them, I chose Justin. I am forever grateful that I did. Justin was exactly what I needed: a skilled and compassionate listener, someone with deep experience and literacy in the grief space, someone who truly understands how cataclysmic a significant loss can feel. In particular, I appreciated Justin's use of various frameworks that helped validate and contain many of the difficult thoughts and feelings I was experiencing. Just as importantly, he saw and honored me as a complicated person with many different parts. He encouraged me to recognize those parts myself and to approach them with curiosity and respect. Justin also takes a humble bow to the unknown--to death, and to the depths of sorrow that can accompany profound loss. His presence during some of the most devastating moments I shared with him was a gift. Around seventeen months after my father died, I began to feel different. More integrated. A little stronger. Better able to look back and see just how broken open I had been, and how much I had changed. As filmmaker Ken Burns has said, the half-life of grief is infinite. I still feel it. But I cannot deny that I have learned a great deal, that I have grown around my grief, and that I continue to do so. The grief remains, but it has softened. Could I have muddled through on my own? Perhaps. But how fortunate I was to have Justin alongside me for this part of my journey. Although our work together was largely focused on the death of my father, we touched on many other aspects of life as well. My sense is that if I had come to Justin during a completely different chapter of my life, he would have been just as helpful. If you are considering working with Justin, I would not hesitate. Just do it.
