We are retired and have traveled all over the US, Caribbean, Mexico, South Pacific, Canada, and Europe. We usually travel on our own but, decided to do a "tour package" on this trip. We selected Great Rail Journeys because of the itinerary, not necessarily because of the price (although it seemed fair). As we draw nearer to our trip we have had to reach out to their Customer Service Dept. twice due to a recent schedule change. Our representative, Haley, handled our concern professionally and efficiently. Therefore, as of now, we give Great Rail Journeys a 5 Star Rating. I will post more here when our trip begins, next month, on May 23rd.

John ,Glenn,s brother takes the day trips and is very helpful also , he is much quieter than Glenn but with a quirky sense of humour. Try it i am sure you will not regret it.

Short version: Poor customer service, dismissive and arrogant management…read more Long version: After calling the hotel before our stay, it was explained that we wanted to be able to leave our car (ours and my wife's parents) at the hotel until 3pm the following day due to the booking being a gift for her elderly parents who find driving in York confusing. This was an essential requirement, and the whole reason we called to check, and purposely booked this hotel over others. On check-out, we were told that we would have to move our cars by Greg (who it later emerged was the owner of the hotel) who was very dismissive and arrogant in his approach insisting that the telephone conversion didn't happen, and would never have happened. We feel very aggrieved that they took our booking for 2 rooms on a false pretence, when this was an essential factor in our booking and clearly explained in our conversation beforehand, without any form of apology or sympathy.

There is a large park next door and a selection of shops very close by. Ideal for motor homes as you dont need to use your car whilst you are there. Facilities are spot on - very clean Staff are very friendly and helpful, Bad points are - you have to book very early to get a pitch and as its by the river there is a risk of flooding.
