My friend recently registered, and after he got over the hilarity of the surgery's name, he explained to me just how surprising the surgery is. On the outside it looks a little run down, in need of some TLC and is also situated underneath a giant tower block of flats. However inside the place is clean, the staff are friendly and it is a safe environment to be in - which feels strange after you have found yourself walking into the crypts of the block of flats. The surgery is also ideally placed for discretion, you can approach the surgery form North Street and get spotted by a number of people, but if you are cunning you can approach from one of the side streets where you will only be spotted by the surgeries token 'hang-about'!

In contrast with other NHS surgeries, its not too difficult to get an appointment to see the doctor, you can either ring up at 8.30 in the morning for an appointment that day (don't leave it any later though or all the appointment slots will have been taken) or you can book for some late afternoon appointments in advance. If you wish to see a particular doctor you may have to wait a couple of weeks for the exact date and time you want but if you are ill, they wil always see you. The receptionists are always really friendly and helpful.

Its a charity so this is all for a donation or even free if you can't afford it. They are a great charity and I urge you to check them out and make a donation. Part of their ethos is all about nutrition and during the week as a visitor you can go to their centre and enjoy an amazing, delicious healthy lunch. You have to book in advance but if you are in the area I strongly recommend it. The centre is also based in beautiful grounds with an amazing garden and views. I have been told the treatment and support they provide is fantastic too.

This is like no other charity shop I've ever visited. Wandering inside to shelter from heavy…read morerainfall over Gloucester Road, I expected the usual racks of clothes, the usual shelf of books, the usual array of odd trinkets and tea pots. But as I stood in the doorway shaking off my umbrella, I gradually realised I had walked into a wonderland of old furniture, and big, good quality, useful furniture at that: wardrobes, shelving units, a rocking chair, a set of wicker chairs, cabinets, tables. The stock here is really amazing, and it's a huge shop, with everything displayed very well. I recommend coming to have a good rummage in this shop just for the furniture. The clothes and books and stuff - well, I can take them or leave them; they're probably better stocked in the huge Cancer Research shop just over the road. But, really, come here and see if you can't find some great piece of original old furniture to have in your home. More fun than Ikea, that's for sure!

Although I've yet to experience major foot problems, my neighbour frequented the Foot Health Centre for a foot problem I probably shouldn't broadcast to the world. However, he was very impressed with the treatment he received here in addition to the conscientious nature of the staff.

The staff team is small which means you become familiar with all the members of staff. I really liked this, as it was not overwhelming like big wards. The ward is well equipped but any labours that are likely to be complicated or result in caesarean sections will not be possible at St Peters they just deal with natural births. There are a few rooms on the ward for new mums to stay with there babies after birth. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days after having my daughter as I caught a fever and was unwell. The ward is clean and tidy. There are actual separate rooms for the patients rather then cubical.

Living up to its name, Brightbow Lodge is cheerfully decorated, and the kitchen/lounge area is lovely and spacious. There is a definite brightness to the place, despite the unfortunate circumstances of many of the residents. Although it is a relatively small care home, there's plenty of room for residents to manoeuver about the place and it's by no means overcrowded. There's also a huge yard peppered with plants, perfect for lunching in in the summer. Staff here seem friendly and I've witnessed some great repartee between staff and residents. If you're looking for care work, there are usually jobs going at Brightbow Lodge - rate of pay is typically poor, however.
