It's nice that there are different levels of courses, including a very prestigious special education program. However, I feel like the "average" students are "thrown under the bus". The AP students are constantly praised and the students that need extra help are always given the help they need, but the average students just go through high school without the real recognition that they desserve. In addition to academics, the athletics are also successful. The soccer team won the state championship last year, which every student would know because they are CONSTANTLY congratulated and rewarded. It's somewhat annoying but at least they have a successful program. Most of the students are friendly, I have only heard of one bullying situation, but it was immediately taken care of. Overall, I would send my child here. I feel that it is a good atmosphere for a student to make many friends and receive a solid education. My only concern is the safety and stability of the building because the ceiling are full of holes from rain leaking and flooding.

She had clearly forgotten about the earlier conversations setting the appointment. A hallmark of disorganization. She then proceeded to act inappropriately around the students, her staff, and other parents. This franchise location will be successful if the franchisee develops the skill to (1) get the customer and (2) retain the customer. This franchisee failed to read her company memos or take the company training seriously. She doesn't get it. A consumer complaint has been logged with home office. In speaking with other parents who know of this location, the experience is common across the board. Unprofessional, disorganized, and NOT child-friendly. That is, former students have taken issue with the owner's failure to teach and act appropriately, to not raise her voice, and to be supportive. How many customers have been lost and opportunities missed because of the owner's abject failure to demonstrate simple bedside manners? Children can take high school math in middle school or do science that they normally could not do. My son attends this school and he is a better, brighter person for it. He is naturally very intelligent and with "many hours" of focused homework, was an A, B student in the public school system. We chose the Lewis School because he is slightly back and white, very sensitive and emotional. For many years he was bullied for being different. And every year we saw this amazingly bright, happy, talkative kid become negative, sad and gloomy. He didn't want to go to school, refused homework and the most upsetting part as a parent was he lost faith in himself. Then we found The Lewis school and OUR not just his life changed. Just after a couple months of attending The Lewis School we saw amazing changes in him. He's happier, wants to go to school, talkative and can handle situations better. He doesn't fight us to go to school or to do his homework (Which he still hates btw). This is the "LEWIS GIFT". They provide children with the love and support our children need. They understand each child and provide proper clinical advice and aid to help them grow into young adults in a stress less environment. This school is not just for learning differences, although they are experts in many fields including dyslexia (which come in many levels similar to autism), but for all children who want to learn in a better accepting environment. I think that the services are still being tweaked, especially for those younger than preschool, and so the jury is still out. I like their philosophy, and the teachers are very friendly and fun. Some weeks the room is more prepped for the kids than others, and the schedule is constantly changing which can make it hard to plan your week. I would like to see communication improved between staff and parents. I have emailed or inquired in person on different occasions and not always received follow up, which is surprising since it is such a small staff. But all in all, I think that what they have going is a great service once they work out the kinks.

Our trip was coming up in two months, and we really wanted to be able to have basic travel conversations and read at least some of the signs we would see in Japan. We set up a few tutoring classes for just my wife and me, and started practicing for our trip. Our teacher really helped us improve our reading skills, and she walked us through typical conversations we might have on the trip. When we arrived in Japan, we were able to get by surprisingly well. We even found out about a Japanese-language behind-the-scenes tour at a museum because the receptionist thought our Japanese was good enough to take it! By the time we came back, we knew we definitely wanted to go back to Japan in the future, and that it would be great to be able to speak and read more Japanese when we did. We wanted to learn the language in greater depth, so we now go to our tutoring classes twice a month, and we're getting better and better. The personal attention helps us learn quickly, and gives us the opportunity to slow down to get more help with tricky concepts, and move forward when something is easy. They have a number of other languages besides Japanese, of course: Spanish, Italian, French, Chinese, and probably more. Tonight I had the extreme good fortune to hear the students of the Westminster Choir perform The…read moreMessiah at Lincoln Center. As someone who has both sung a fair amount of choral music and listened to even more, I have a well-trained ear and am very picky where vocal music is concerned. The star of tonight's performance was the Choir itself. Much of the credit goes to the Choir's director, Joe Miller, who made sure that the unisons, the fast-paced coloratura passages, the diction, the pitch, the dynamics and the balance were perfect. But a director can achieve ultimately only what his singers can produce. Clearly, the relationship between the choir members and their instructors at this fine school is very, very special. I've heard The Messiah several dozen times over the course of my life, often sung by world-famous choirs, and this was among the best performances I've had the pleasure to hear. During the standing ovation, the loudest cheering was not for the soprano or tenor soloist (both terrific) or for the superb New York Philharmonic. IT WAS FOR THE CHOIR. Hear Hear! What a calling card for an institution of higher musical learning!
