Shanell met with us for a "food consultation", working with us to design a menu for three dinners, with ingredients we liked, and in our budget. Shanell arrived at our home early one morning between 8-9 am, baring arms full of groceries and supplies, and seeing us off to work. We arrived home late that evening to find an immaculate kitchen and our fridge and freezer packed with three meals, each labeled with easy instruction for reheating. The meals, eaten over the course of the week were delicious, my favorite being the braised lamb shank and polenta. (My boyfriend's favorite was the stuffed salmon) Driving home from work knowing a gourmet meal was in the fridge waiting to be easily reheated, was a delight. She responded promptly to my request for a proposal and initial questions. Her pricing is fair and very easy to understand; there were no surprises at the end. The planning process for the event was smooth and she had great suggestions for the courses, on which we worked together to create a customized menu that also took into account dietary restrictions. On the day of the event she arrived on time and brought her own supplies as agreed. She set up the cooking area efficiently and in a relaxed manner that was not rushed whatsoever. She spread out the courses beautifully and none of the guests felt hurried or overwhelmed. As each course was served she got everyone's attention and described the dish, which was a nice touch! At the end of the evening she cleaned up and left the kitchen area spotless, departing in the timeframe she indicated in her proposal. Finally, and most importantly, the food was excellent. We had two hors d'oeuvres and a frisee salad that were on her regular menu list of selections and she crafted an off-list duck a l'orange that was as good as you'll find at a traditional French restaurant. She made a very special crepe desert as well. I would highly recommend Chef Dawn and would not hesitate to request her services again in the future.
