Over time I've noticed prices steadily increasing to the point that many items are priced at or above what I can find online. In my experience, pricing often appears to be based on asking prices rather than actual sold values, which makes it difficult to find genuine thrift-store bargains. Many collectible items seem to remain in the display case for weeks or months without selling, suggesting the pricing may not reflect current market demand. Selection can be hit or miss, and I rarely leave feeling like I've found a great deal anymore. While some staff members have always been kind and helpful, the overall shopping experience feels much less welcoming and community-oriented than it once did. As someone who both shopped and donated here, I've decided to take my business and future donations elsewhere. I personally recommend checking out Thrifters Rock or Family Thrift in Palmer, where I've had better luck finding reasonably priced merchandise.

Folks donate junk they don't want, we show up and buy it. Charities benefit. If they've over priced, we decide how badly we want it and factor in that all proceeds benefit a cause. This store is really well organized with a huge variety of junk. Prices are great, especially for clothes. They have a massive dvd and book collection. Even a nice selection of Alaska based writings. Take care, remember it's donated stuff other people didn't want. Sometimes that means damaged or in need of repair. Buy accordingly. I know it's for a cause, but there are times when it's fun to dicker, especially when something's broke and so are we! I've bought cool shot glasses, growlers, tools and OSU Buckeye dolls. I've even found my favorite candy bars at a nice price. Even at their peak the line moves quickly so it's a very efficient process. The folks are fun to deal with, super friendly! 08/23

However, there are some serious and ongoing issues that shouldn't be overlooked. First, they do not answer the phone--period. It doesn't matter how many times you call, how long you wait, or how often the call drops. For a public service handling time-sensitive and often important mail, that is simply unacceptable. Second, and more concerning, is the lack of basic attention to detail. I recently received a certified notice with the sender information left completely blank. That one missing line caused 48 hours of unnecessary stress, trying to determine what could have triggered it. When I brought this to the counter clerk's attention, there was no attempt to document the issue or follow up--just a casual acknowledgment that "it happens." If I'm not mistaken, this is the U.S. Post Office. We pay for this service through our taxes, and completing required forms correctly is not optional--it's the job. If a notice has a line for sender information, it should be filled out. Leaving it blank is not a small oversight; it has real consequences for the people receiving those notices. To make matters worse, no one could tell me who was responsible--whether it was the carrier or someone in the senders office--so there's no accountability. Add in long Saturday lines (often out the door) and an auxiliary station that isn't full-service, and it becomes clear that while this location may be more pleasant than Anchorage, it still falls short where it counts. At the end of the day, we don't have many options--but basic competence, communication, and accountability shouldn't be too much to expect.

They have a building that you drive into and several volunteers that help you unload and distribute the different classes of recycling materials in the correct drops downs. They have a printed data sheet with pictures that explain the different categories of recycling materials so that you can separate them prior to arrival and the volunteers are very helpful in helping you learn the many categories. They also accept things that many recycling centers don't. They accept the gardening pots that you have and make them available to others for free or a small donation. They accept books, wire, other metals, pallets, aluminum foil and cans. The pallets can be purchased for a $1 donation. They do not accept hazardous waste or oil but the Borough landfill next door does. The Borough landfill will accept TV's, electronics equipment and hazardous materials. The recycling center has a membership program that provides a sticker for unlimited recycling for a year or they suggest a small donation of $3.00 per trip. They are always looking for volunteers if you wish to help them. Every item recycled and not thrown away helps the environment. I highly encourage you to contact them and join them in improving the environment and eliminating as much disposed of waste in the landfill or thrown illegally in our beautiful lands.
