For a few…read moredollars round-trip you travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned bus direct from downtown to a few blocks away from the beach in Progreso. Buses leave every ten minutes and the trip takes about an hour each way. Pro tip: It can get busy, so if you have someone with you, have them get in line for the bus while you get in line for your round-trip tickets. By the time you have your tickets your companion should be close to the front of the line and you won't have to wait as long. On the return trip we noticed passengers asking to be let off at different places along the route when we got back into the city limits. When we got a few blocks away from our hotel we asked and the bus driver was kind enough to let us off as well. It saved us from having to go all the way back downtown and taking a cab back to the hotel. It never hurts to ask.

The moment you walk in, there is so much peace and tranquility even though on the main road (calle 62) there is a lot of noise with just the cars driving by. The VIP hotel only has 6 suites however we still had an outdoor swimming pool with lounge chairs. The rooms are quite spacious, clean, and comfortable. The super tall ceilings and decor of the hotel truly transport you back to the hacienda days in Mexico. I did partake on ordering drinks poolside since its so hot/humid out there so thats also an option. I didn't see many other guests there since people are usually out on their tours or walking around getting familiar with the city. The concierge are super helpful providing ideas/suggestions on things to do or would recommend places if you ask. One day it was raining and they brought me an umbrella to me right before I walked out for a tour. I would recommend adding a small fridge to the room just so guests can store water. This is a boutique hotel you definitely want to enjoy their well maintained facilities and take advantage of everything offered.

We have been on several cruises to Progreso and never got off the ship until this visit, and I'm so…read moreglad we did. We were traveling with multiple families with kids ages 2-14 and adults up to their 70s. Every single one of us had a great time. We had a private van (like a Sprinter) with plenty of seating and nice cool AC. The ride to the cenotes was over an hour, but our guide kept us entertained with history and stories about the area. The cenotes themselves were amazing; they were breathtakingly beautiful. They weren't crowded - we were literally the only people at one. The kids loved the rope swings, and one from our group braved the 30+ foot jump from the top. At the end, we were served an absolutely delicious meal by a sweet group of local ladies. Even the picky eaters found something to enjoy. We didn't want to cut it close with our ship's departure, and our guide was sensitive to this. We returned with an hour to spare as we requested. Bear in mind that the cenotes are in remote locations, so facilities were limited and restrooms were rustic. Once off the main road, it was very bumpy for the last 10 minutes or so. Also, lots of steep stairs led to the cenotes, so this isn't a great fit for anyone with mobility issues. That being said, it was totally worth it in our group's opinion. We will return the next time we end up in Progreso!
