After his initial consultation and evaluation, he then goes over solutions. Recently, I had belonged to a Medical Group where the doctor would immediately come in and go to the computer, spending less that 2 1/2 minutes of personal time with me as the patient. This became a regular routine, where after all the computer input had been done, then the exam would take place, usually in a rapid manner. The opposite is true of Dr. Furness. I would say his strength is he obviously does his homework before even coming through the door. He knows why you are there and is already prepared to offer options depending on the ailment. He is easily accessible through his office and/or online and is prompt to respond. The most important aspect and quality of Dr. Furness is that he treats his patient as an intelligent adult and listens to options or ideas that the patient has to offer. He is not a doctor who lives off his ego, rather he lives to fulfill his chosen path of healing.

Dr. Harner led me to believe there was nothing to worry about. Turns out a swollen foot is a symptom of deep vein thrombosis: a blood clot in the calf. Sure enough, a couple weeks later the blood clot moved into my lungs, and I was hospitalized with a bilateral pulmonary embolism. Dr. Harner should have recognized I was in danger; he could have at least sent me to a specialist for another opinion, as there was clearly something wrong. I feel lucky to be alive.

Because of my client's cognitive and hearing challenges, having an advocate present to accurately track his care plan was critical. As a courtesy, since I had never met this physician, I provided information about my role and credentials, in writing, along with a legally signed authorization from his Power of Attorney to attend this appointment. Dr. Roberto flatly refused to allow me to accompany my client into the appt. I asked to speak to him, but Dr. Roberto refused to come out, choosing instead to repeatedly send his receptionist to relay his objections. To resolve the refusal on the spot, I got the client's Power of Attorney (his daughter) on the phone so the doctor could hear directly from her that I had explicit permission to be in the room. He still refused, absurdly claiming that because she wasn't in California, he couldn't accept the signed authorization or verify her identity over the phone. In my 35 years in the eldercare industry, I have never experienced such a blatant disregard for a vulnerable patient's safety and support system. His behavior was completely ludicrous, obstructionist, and counterproductive to patient care! We have happily changed doctors, and my client is now receiving excellent care. AVOID this doctor if you want your elderly loved ones to have their legal rights and advocates respected.

I have only seen him twice and I can't say enough good things about him. My previous appointment with Dr. Dhar was 6 years ago and he remembered me! He examined me with such meticulous care like I was his brother! "He ain't heavy, he's my brother" (the lyrics of an oldie) came to mind! I was weak from my last medical procedure and needed a wheelchair to move around. The welcoming and obliging MA, Jessica, cheerfully wheeled me in from my car. Then Dr Dhar took over and personally wheeled me from room to room so I could get an EKG and a heart Ultrasound. What was even more amazing he wheeled me to my car when I was done and told me my heart was in fine shape. Where can I get such personal and loving care from any physician and I don't know him from Adam? Having said that, my primary care physician Dr. Jonathan Morse, as if not to be outdone, wheeled me down the ramp yesterday from his 2nd floor office to my car! I was deeply touched by both physicians who went above and beyond in providing excellent care and service. Maybe they were both sorry that I only have less than 6 months to go in my battle against pancreatic cancer. God bless them both! The outcome is there are some results outside of the norm so we are proceeding with a cardiac catheterization to further evaluate my condition. I appreciate Dr. Dhars straightforward appraisal of the situation and his modesty and honesty in sharing that the results are not realistically predictable and we both will gain insight as we go forward.
