This may just be a place for those who know what the Quest is - or what Sled Dog races are in general. It's definitely more for the fan and the mushers judging by reviews I've read. I am completely biased in that I am a huge fan of the sport and many of the mushers who participate in this race (though to be completely fair I find the Iditarod to be the best 1000 mile race in the World... I felt like I was cheating on "my race" coming to this place).
The log cabin is decorated well on the outside (seriously the silhouette of a dog team on the room with all that moss is my favorite thing ever, can't believe I didn't get a photo!), and inside it feels cozy and is well kept. The merchandise had a few surprises (several mushers/kennels have their merch there as well). I ended up with a shirt and a pin (I know, I'm a horrible cheater, I'm sorry Iditarod). Much like the Iditarod HQ/Shop in Wasilla the staff are passionate about their race and are willing to answer any and all questions and are knowledgeable.
It was fun visiting the shop with friends who knew very little about either race because between myself and the representative there behind the counter we were able to show the similarities of the races, as well as the differences. Turns out they aren't so different after all. I don't know as much about the Quest as I probably should, so it was nice to be able to defer questions to someone who has a little more info to share.
If you're interested in either the Quest or Iditarod at all (I mean the Quest is pretty impressive, it's got some pretty harsh terrain and weather, much like Iditarod did back in the 80s and early 90s... plus it goes into Canada as well!) then you should stop in and take a look. You don't need to plan that much time to visit, unless you want to talk the staff's ear off. But it's a nice way to learn about sled dogs. A lot of times they also have puppies and mushers on site. So check it out, give some support to the race, and get one of those unique Alaska experiences (especially if you're visiting during the time of year when most kennels are starting up their training season or the race season is over but it's too yucky to do kennel tours yet). Great way to get a race fix in. read more
