Have been going to Hamme pool since around 1980 and over the last 35+ years have been part of a…read moreswim team, (B.E.S.T-Blue Eels), that called Hamme home, used the pool for PE classes in high school, and so did my sons, who prior to that also both learned how to swim there and who every year begged to have their birthday parties there! Now my youngest is getting to experience those same things and I'm so happy for her to be able to do so!! The lifeguards and other staff are great people and very good at their jobs! That's not always easy to do with a huge pool full of energy filled kids!! From beginners that may just be learning to swim or hold their breath, to the advaced athlete doing complex dives off the high board... each person must be kept safe and the lifeguards at Hamme take that very seriously! The facility is almost always clean with maybe an occasional, (untidy, uncaring, customer made), mess in the locker rooms! It's a great place for 'drowning' those winter time blues, (sorry, terrible play on words there!) and I'd recommend it for all your personal and/or family time aquatic exercise and fun!! Do wish they had slides like Wescott Pool in North Pole does!!

The Hamme pool is apart of Lathrup high school. It is generally used for recreational swimming. On…read moreMondays the pool is open to boaters to bring their kayaks in for a small fee. It is the only place in town where boaters can go in the dead of the winter to freshen up on their roles, flat-water tricks, or even just basic paddle strokes. When you walk inside through the two doors you come to a large lobby where the boaters sit. The floors are fairly dirty but that is understandable given the immense amount of foot traffic they have going in and out. After you pay your fee you go into the showers where there is a big room for you to change. The men's is on the left and the women on the right as you walk inside. Lockers are provided on the walls but you need to bring you own locks. If there are locks left on after closing time they are cut off so they are useable the next day. After you are all changed you go through another day where you enter the showers. They are poorly placed because to get to the next door you must walk through everyone's water stream and risk getting dry items wet. Another down side to the showers is that they are normally out of soap so you must bring your own if you intend on showering at the pool. After you are all rinsed off you can go outside the next door into the pool area. If you are there on a Monday night you are greeted with an arsenal of kayaks that people have brought to test their skills. Now is the time where everyone kayaks around, socializing, and testing their boating skills for the water polo game to come. One of the regular lifeguards on Monday is a middle-aged male that is extremely friendly to whoever talks to him. He enjoys telling stories about his own life as well as listening to your own. Even though he sees many people throughout the day he remembers what you talked about in previous conversations the time before. Not all of the employees are as nice as this particular man though. Some of the women that work at the pool tend to have a unhappy attitude and very strict when it come to following the rules of the pool. Overall the Hamme pool is a fun environment with kind people and that make it a nice place to spend a Monday night. Although if I were running the facilities I may hire a better cleaning facility because when I am there I feel like it could be much cleaner, especially the main lobby floors. Or at least take a small amount out of the budget to replace the old flooring that has probably been there for many years. Or even better yet, leave it a concrete floor and paint something inviting on it to give it a pool feel.
