    YVR Airport Station
    Bruce K.

I love cities with light rail or subway that extends from the airport to the downtown center. Vancouver has it and it's great. This station at the airport is easy to find by following the signs for ground transportation. It's a brief walk but the signage is clear. Next to the train platform, you'll find the automated ticket vending machines and a person there to help those with troubles. I didn't need help. There are two banks of kiosks so when everyone's queued up at the first bank, just walk around them and go over to the shorter line at the other. Easy! Unless you're going direct to your hotel and not getting on the train again, just buy the day pass. It's easiest.

WOW so only reason why I took this Skytrain to the airport was because I am heading to Fairmont to use my Groupon that I bought.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work for the other platform - one has to go down the stairs and across to the other side of the station. Other than that, the trains are nice and shiny.

It is named after the nearby shopping mall, Aberdeen Centre. The location of this station is convenient as it convenient to numerous Asian shopping malls in the area. In addition to the aforementioned Aberdeen Centre, it is within walking distance of Yaohan Centre, President Plaza and Parker Place. If you are looking for good Chinese food, you will find plenty of it in the vicinity of this station. On my last trip to Richmond, I ended up using this station the most. The hotel (Pacific Gateway) in Richmond I was staying at had an airport shuttle, but didn't have one for Richmond. So I ended up walking to and from here quite often when I wanted to head north to Vancouver. While I would have liked this station to have been closer, it was still within reasonable walking distance and it was only about a 20 minute walk. The waiting times at this station are a bit longer than at the previous station (Bridgeport) because the southbound Canada Line splits off with one part headed to this station, while the other one is YVR bound. Still the waiting time during the daytime is 6 minutes at the most which seems reasonable. If you need to get to and from Richmond's Golden Village from downtown Vancouver, I would recommend taking a SkyTrain to this station as it is convenient and has frequent train service.

A certain chunk of it may actually be closer to Main/Science World station, which is the next station E of this one. The station is originally built with 3 platforms, but currently only 2 are used. Apparently the 3rd platform was built mainly for a shuttle service for Expo '86. One thing that's nice is that there is now decent cell phone reception inside the tunnels going into downtown. Still remember a few years back (2010s and earlier) when the entire tunnel system was a giant dead spot. For wheelchair accessibility, there are a series of elevators and ramps available at the W (Beatty) and NE (Keefer) entrances, but not at the S (Expo) entrance. Oh yeah, this station becomes a complete war zone whenever there's a concert or hockey game at either stadium. Double whammy if both have an event on the same day. In these situations it's actually better and faster to walk to and board at an adjacent station.

But unlike other cities that uses touch payment for their mass transit, like NYC and London, where they optimize your cost, vancouver seems to charge an unusually high charge for visitors. It was $4.60 USD (after conversion) for travel in the same zone one-way per person. Our trip was less than one mile, and it cost more than an Uber ride if you have 2 people traveling together.

Affordable, timely, spacious and clean. Damn efficient I may add. Let's just put it this way, if I were to drive from Coquitlam to Vancouver during rush hour, it would give me a numbing irritable experience as likely I would to have deal with impatient drivers, stuck in grid lock and deal with bumper to bumper traffic. Hop on the skytrain then take the connecting bus, no headache and no stress. And it is even FASTER and CHEAPER!!! So what is there not to like. Sure, the impatient teenager me once thought riding transit was terrible, cuz I haven't yet been stuck on Highway One due to some jackass thought he was clever and can be quick weaving in and out finally causing a multiple pile-up blocking all lanes. I'll take the skytrain over driving any day especially during rush hour.

Finally, a decent way to get from downtown Vancouver. Sure we're all paying through the nose for…read morethis line, but I'm sure most people would agree that this line is WAY overdue. With that said, I still can't believe they had to tear up those brand new bus lanes running (they were there for less than 2 years) down No.3 Road. The stations are nice and clean, though their size leaves much to be desired. There is barely enough room to stand around on the platforms. The trains are wider than those of the Expo line, but they're also much shorter (2 cars instead of 4). Also you can tell they cheaped out when the stations on the Richmond side literally jut out onto the freaking street. Would it really have cost that much more to slide the entire station 3m to one side? One thing I always like to do is sit at the front of the trains and look out the front window. If you haven't done this before, it's actually pretty cool. The biggest complaint I have about the Canada Line is the fact that the trains only run every 10 minutes or so. Compare that to the Expo Line (1 every 2 minutes) during rush hour. Having the signs that show the ETA of the next train is nice, but it really sucks when you look up and see that you still have to wait 7 minutes. And this is assuming you're not going to Richmond, because now there's a chance you're going to wait (literally) twice as long. With that said, the YVR leg is awesome. Vancouver is now the only Canadian city to have a direct rapid transit link to the downtown core. I'm sure many of the cabbies out there aren't too happy about this. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

The booking process is easy, the manager Howie is responsive and easy to work with. The drivers are always on time and courteous. On our most recent trip, there was a terrible accident on highway 99 which delayed us 7 hrs! We had multiple families traveling on together in a large van, half children under the age of 8. The kids were going stir crazy and so were the parents. The person that was not frazzled at all was our driver Johan. He was with us the whole way, taking us to dinner in Squamish, driving us around town looking for a place to entertain the kids and wait for the roads to reopen. We ended up having to hang out at a Walmart for several hours. By the time we got to Whistler was about midnight, on a 5p planned arrival. Johan never stopped being courteous, kind, and friendly. I can't imagine how tired and frustrating the ordeal must have been for him, yet he never let it showed and it made the journey so much more pleasant despite the circumstances.
